Chapter 1 - Neurox

Year - Unknown

In the beginning, during the creation of the mortal universe, five deities floated around the vast starry expanse. These five deities were the first to ever be known. They floated next to one another, looking around them. Some sort of energy, as small as atoms if not smaller floated endlessly around them.

"I see, there is almost an infinite amount of ren in this universe. But should mortals really be using the energy of the divine?", Zeus asked.

"I feel the same way, lower beings such as mortals should not be allowed such power.", Shiva replied.

These five deities - Zeus, Shiva, Buddha, Odin and Hades all agreed to isolate ren, the energy of the soul in the gate connecting the mortal realm to the divine realm.

800 billion years later

Humans, the lowest form of mortal creatures. Though they call themselves higher animals, they are no different from other warm blooded animals. But, they had made significant changes to the earth. Creating different gadgets, devices and equipment. A truly commendable feat.

Humans had also fought wars with one another over territory, one would wonder how such intelligent species would fight such bloody wars over territory but nonetheless, there would always be peace.

After the passage of more than a billion years, a famous neurologist named Dr. Emily heart made a groundbreaking creation. Thirty years of her dedication proved fruitful after she created the first stable human neutral chip nicknamed, Neurox.

Humans rejoiced without a care in the world after the news spread, people began using Neurox thinking that all would be even better now that neurox had been created. Little did they know that this was just the beginning of the nightmare to come.

Neurox chips had three main functions. The first been the ability to maintain one's rationality or sanity despite any situation they could be in. Then there was the ability to process information faster than an average human. For an average human, their thinking speed would be about ten bits per second but for an average Neurox user, their thinking speed could be up to a billion bits per second. That's as fast as a normal computer system if not faster.

And of course, the last was the self defense mechanism. Whenever a Neurox senses fear from a human's mind, it automatically initiates a self defense protocol to protect them. Neurox chips had multiple in built self defense techniques integrated into them before production. When installed into the human brain, and the mechanism activates, the neural chip picks the best defense techniques for the user to use depending on their features.

Humans were first astonished by this great creation and when they were to give their heartfelt thanks to its creator, they found out that she had disappeared without a trace. Rumors had spread like wildfire,

'Did she run away?'

'Was she kidnapped?'

'Was she dead?'

Fortunately, none of these were confirmed as the rumors died down.

A year, after the creation of Neurox

"Mom, I bruised my knee.", said a boy of not more than four years old to his mother. His mother turned and looked him in the eye sending shivers down the little boy's spine.

"Who...are you?", The boy asked shakily as he completely forgot about his pain.

"What do you mean Thomas? I am your mother, aren't I?", The woman replied with a creepy smile. The young boy retreated to the living room and dialed 911. When the authorities arrived, he was questioned and he gave one simple answer.

"Ever since mom got Neurox, she started acting strange."

Just after that one incident, people all over the world began complaining about Neurox users saying they were being weird or too creepy. Only after a short investigation by the authorities was it found out that Neurox's first and only side effect had started affecting humans.

Neurox made humans lose all emotion. Presidents all over the world were shaken by this discovery and immediately had a press meeting. They argued, discussed and gave up. Neurox couldn't be removed from the brain without consequences to the life of the user so there was only one option left...

ELIMINATE ALL NEUROX USERS DISCREETLY

This command was given to every official on earth. The plan began smoothly, Neurox users were asked to come in for a maintenance and some would secretly be eliminated. To humans without Neurox, it felt alright but to Neurox users, it felt suspicious. Their numbers were reducing, slowly but surely. A single Neurox user decided to investigate and since they were much faster at perceiving information than an average human, the command was found out within a week.

All Neurox users brimmed with anger and all hell broke loose. The army was released to counter the attack of Neurox users but the result was both terrifying and traumatizing. A single Neurox user could take out five soldiers bare handed even after being shot fifteen times. They were skilled with weapons and were even better at creating schemes that no creature would ever expect. From that moment on, Neurox users were called 'Cold blooded murderers'.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The war took two years at most but it was the bloodiest war in the history of mankind. In the end, Neurox users were all eliminated... or so the humans thought.
The earth was in a terrible shape, the soils were blackened by firearms and unable to regrow because of the use of nuclear weapons. A very large majority of human an animals died due to this war now called 'The war of the mind'.
On a visit to the mortal realm, Buddha had passed through the gate of Ren, the gate connecting the mortal realm and divine realm. The sight of earth was shocking. A planet that always looked pale blue now looked to be on the verge of destruction. Feeling pity for the humans, he broke the agreement between the five deities and let Ren flow through the universe once again. Mother earth began healing slowly, her soils becoming richer, the air became clearer and humans gained yet another blessing, the blessing of the elements.
But as it always said:
Where there is light, there shall always be darkness.
