Chapter 1 - sacrifice her daughter

The Promise of the Last Star

In a quiet village surrounded by forests and rivers, there lived a woman named Elara and her only daughter Lina. Lina was the light of Elara's life. Her laughter filled their small wooden house like sunshine.

But the village carried a terrible curse.

Every fifty years, the sky would darken for seven nights. Crops would die, rivers would dry, and sickness would spread across the land. The elders believed the curse could only be broken by offering the purest soul to the Last Star, a mysterious star that appeared on the final night.

For generations, people whispered about it, but no one had ever dared to make the sacrifice.

Until the curse returned.

Children grew sick, animals died, and the river turned black. The elders searched for a solution, and an ancient book revealed the truth:

"Only the pure heart of a child willingly given under the Last Star can save the land."

Elara's heart froze when she realized the truth.

Lina was the purest child in the village.

The elders came to Elara's door with sorrow in their eyes.

"No one else can do this," they said softly. "Your daughter can save everyone."

Elara closed the door and held Lina tightly that night. She listened to her daughter's gentle breathing and wished the world would stop.

The next evening, Lina noticed her mother crying.

"Mom, why are you sad?" she asked.

Elara tried to hide it, but Lina was wise beyond her years. After hearing the truth, Lina stayed silent for a long time.

Then she smiled.

"If I can help everyone… isn't that a good thing?"

Elara felt her heart shatter.

"No," she whispered. "A mother should never lose her child."

But Lina hugged her.

"You always told me heroes help others. Maybe this is my turn."

On the seventh night, the Last Star appeared in the dark sky, brighter than anything the village had ever seen.

The entire village gathered at the hilltop altar.

Elara walked slowly, holding Lina's hand. Every step felt like walking through fire.

When they reached the altar, Lina looked at her mother.

"Don't be sad," she said gently. "Look at the star. It's beautiful."

Elara couldn't speak. Tears ran down her face as she kissed Lina's forehead.

The ritual began.

But just as the elders raised the ceremonial blade, Lina suddenly stepped forward and shouted:

"Stop!"

Everyone froze.

Lina looked at the glowing star and spoke loudly.

"If the star wants a pure heart, then it should know something… My mother loves everyone in this village more than herself. She is the one who truly sacrifices every day."

At that moment, the Last Star began to glow even brighter.

The sky trembled.

A voice echoed through the wind:

"True sacrifice is not taking a life, but offering love."

The star burst into golden light that covered the village. The curse vanished instantly. The river turned clear again, and the sick began to heal.

No life was taken.

Elara fell to her knees and hugged Lina tightly as the villagers watched in silence.

From that day on, the village learned the truth:

The greatest sacrifice is not death.

It is love strong enough to change fate.

And every fifty years, when the Last Star appeared again, people remembered the brave little girl who saved everyone — not with her life, but with her heart.
