Chapter 2 - Calla Lilies

22 March 2015

Another Year, Another City or more like Another Country?

Although she has often moved from city to city, Lily has never moved to another country. Is a different kettle of fish for her to move to another country.

Brighton has always been her favorite place. She lived there for five years. Although there were annoying seagulls that always stole her food when she was at the beach, it was a memorable place.

At the Campbell residence, Brighton. The Campbell family is preparing to move to the United States next week.

"Chicago, huh... is that a good city to live in?" Lily asked her father, Matthew Campbell.

Matthew just chuckled at Lily's question as he packed his things into a large suitcase. "Is the city nice? Dad thinks so. Don't you want to move away from here?" Matthew grinned as he tossed some items to Lily, who was also packing her stuff. "Don't frown like that. Dad heard that the boys in Chicago are cool, you know."

Lily just laughed when she heard that. "Cool? Listen, dear father. I'm Lily Campbell, a 16-year-old girl who's at the peak of puberty. Being cool isn't enough for catch me."

Lily puffed out her chest proudly as if she were stating an indisputable fact.

Matthew just laughed. "Yeah, yeah, yeah... my girl is the most beautiful girl."

Not long after, Iris, Lily's mother, appeared from the kitchen carrying some snacks. "Oh, what are my dear husband and daughter talking about?"

"Eh... It's not that important, Mom. It's just Dad talking about some silly things." Lily sighed a little. "So do we have to move again? I mean, why do we have to move every time I get comfortable staying in one place?"

Matthew looked like he wanted to apologize. "I'm sorry, dear. Dad has an irregular job and has to move around a lot."

Lily put on a happy face for her father so he wouldn't feel too bad about apologizing. "It's okay, Dad. Maybe the annoying thing about constantly moving is having to introduce myself in front of the class."

"just hoping people there won't be annoying."

It is now late at night. 10 pm.

In her bedroom, which would probably be Lily's last week sleeping in this place. Lily stared at the ceiling, thinking about what would happen when she moved to a new place, met new people... or maybe fallen in love?

Ha... it couldn't possibly happen to me...

Love is complicated.

Lily rolled around in her blanket, trying to find a comfortable sleeping position. Thinking about unimportant things in an attempt to fall asleep did not help at all.

"I CAN'T SLEEP!!!" Lily screamed silently. She finally got up from her bed and walked to her desk, turning on her laptop to talk with random people on a forum on a website called "Love Isn't True."

'Love Isn't True' is a forum where anonymous people discuss their experiences with love. In other words, it's a site for people to vent about their bad experiences with love.

There are many stories from anonymous people on this forum, which are very interesting to talk about, and of course... this site also has many trolls who even mock the stories shared by others.

The anonymous feature on this site is like heaven, allowing users to freely share stories or respond to romantic stories shared by others.

After a while, Lily scrolled through the site. She found a forum that was currently bustling with 200 people actively discussing the topic "Is love at first sight real?"

She read some comments that were quite interesting from the perspective of the people discussing the topic.

Anon_123: "Who in this world believes in love at first sight? Hahaha."

Anon_447: "Love at first sight isn't real."

Anon_967: "Oh, you're so naive. Even people in the past didn't marry out of love."

Lily noticed and read several comments from anonymous users. Then Lily also wrote a comment.

Anon_7171: "It's true. The feeling of falling in love at first sight is indescribable. I mean, how do you explain to your partner that you love them because you fell in love at first sight?"

Lily's comment received an upvote and heated up the discussion. The anonymous users began analyzing like professors who wanted to dissect what true love at first sight really is. The discussion was heated, with many comments that were over the top.

Among these comments, there was one that was truly irrational but very true when given some thought about it.

Anon_1341: "If you use 'love at first sight' to start a relationship, are you certain that you will still accept your partner when they show their bad side?"

Lily thought this person's opinion made perfect sense. Besides, if someone says, "I fell in love with you at first sight," doesn't that mean they only like your appearance?

If someone likes the way a person looks, won't that love fade away eventually because people eventually grow old?

This person, Anon_1341, seems to really understand what they are talking about.

Oh damn, it's already late at night. Tomorrow is Monday. I have to sleep. Lily shut down the laptop and put it away before returning to her bed. The night was quiet again. Lily fell asleep shortly after rolling around on her bed. Her breathing was calm as she slept deeply.

Next week is her last day in England. And she hopes... everything will go smoothly, without sadness. Because she has been through this before. Moving from place to place.

In her dream, Lily dreamed about what she would say to her friends. Would she say sorry for only being their friend for two years, because she had to move away? Or would she thank their for everything?

Going to school next week might be a bit tough... all those memories, short as they may be, have been meaningful for Lily.

That said, in life, nothing lasts forever and everything will come to an end, and only the memories that the people have made together will remain.

Perhaps... the direction she is heading now is going to bring some good memories for her.
