Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: A New Michael

Victor could not believe his eyes! What was this dead man doing alive? He knew he had shot Michael several times last night and with how deep the water he had fallen into was, Victor had been certain that the fool had gone on to rest in a watery grave.

"Impossible!" He sneered and tried to pull his arm back in vain. "You're a dead man."

"And yet here I am walking and breathing freely," Michael retorted in a mockingly calm voice. He released his grip on his cousin's hand and moved to hold his sister who was still shocked upon seeing him.

"I-I don't understand..." Her light voice was shaky with unshed tears as she held on tightly to her brother. "He said you were dead..."

"Calm down Ari," Michael murmured and hugged his sister comfortingly. Behind her, his eyes hardened into steely black orbs. "I'll take care of everything.

When he released his sister and turned back around, Michael could see that Victor still could not understand what was happening. But that was not of any interest to Michael at this moment. Without even giving the blonde man an acknowledging look, he walked right past him and towards where his father was being forced to kneel. One of the guards immediately moved to intercept him and in an instant, Michael activated Foresight.

It became as if he was watching the world from a third person perspective. His vision was brief, just as the skill description had said, but it had given Michael all the information he needed. The guard lunged towards him with a shock baton. In a stunning flow of movement, Michael smoothly dodged out of the man's way, tripped him with one foot and sent the stumbling guard directly towards Victor.

The shock baton made contract with the blonde man's body and he erupted in a series of painful spasms as the electric current wreaked havoc on his body. The suddenness of the whole thing caught Victor off guard and he found himself forced to his knees in an instant. When he looked up, he could see the apathetic face of Michael staring down at him as if he was nothing.

"Feels good to be on ground, doesn't it?" Michael taunted coldly and moved past him without another word.

The other guard had already moved to assist his boss after Michael's humiliating stunt, leaving no one in between him and his father. William stared at his son in surprise as the latter helped the former to his feet. He opened his mouth to ask the question that had been burning in his mind from the moment he saw his son, but Michael shook his head discreetly.

"Not now," he whispered and William clamped his jaw shut with a firm nod.

Michael ignored the whispers and muttering of the people around him and helped his father to the stairs in front of their house where Ari was sitting as well. It was only when he heard a loud click behind him that he decided to turn around. Like a repeat of the last night's events, Victor was pointing a gun directly at him. The blond man was fuming and the look in his eyes was similar to that of a cornered animal. Without giving away any emotion, Michael used Observe on him.

'He has a higher level than I do but his stats aren't that much higher than mine. Looks like gaining the Wargod System helped to increase my physical capabilities,' Michael thought inwardly as he stared down the barrel of the gun unshaken by the direct threat to his life. 'I might be able to win in a one on one fight with him, but with those two guards of his getting involved, it'll be a whole different story. I'll have to play this one out smartly.'
