Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 The Artifact

Jason was running for his life in the forest. The hunters were quickly getting closer and he gasped for air while running.

'Won't they ever give up trying to chase me down?' He thought to himself. 'I only flirted with one girl who was alone. Who new she had a centaur for a boyfriend and now they they want to hang me upside down from a tree.'

'Think Jason, think. What is the weakness of a centaur? Alcohol? Wish I had some. Lust? Not happening. Riding on its back? No it's too fast. Then what?'

An arrow struck Jason in his shoulder and he lost his footing. He fell onto the forest floor and started rolling down a steep hill.

The centaurs approached the hill and looked down the hill for any sign of Jason. Luckily the forest vegetation covered him well enough that the centaurs couldn't see him.

A loud animalistic roar could be heard common from deeper in the forest. The centaurs immediately withdrew. One of the saying "it's your lucky day blessingless freak. Or maybe not we may not get to have our fun with you but that thing might."

He galloped away with his friends in a hurry leaving Jason alone in the woods with another monster. The arrow that hit him was still imbedded within his shoulder but the shaft broke off during the fall down the steep slope.

"Why couldn't I get blessed by a mythical creature too" Jason sighed as he slowly got up.

Blood poured from his shoulder down to his back and his breathing was uneven. Several other cuts where all over his body from running in the forest that he couldn't feel due to the adrenaline. Yeah Jason new he didn't look good.

It won't be too long before exhaustion and fatigue took over his body but he had to get out of this part of the forest. "I don't want to be here when that thing shows up" Jason said

Jason managed to control his breathing and started running along the side of the slope until he came across a cliff. The cliff looked climbable so he took a deep breathe and started climbing.

About two meters up he moved his hand to grab a handhold and it gave way revealing a small clearing just large enough for him to put a hand through. He pulled himself up a little more to see if he could look inside the tiny hole. Humans are curious by nature after all. You never know what someone left inside a hole in the middle of the woods.

He didn't see anything inside so he reached his hand in to see if there was anything he didn't see. He felt his hand reach something. He grabbed it and pulled it out. "An artifact?" He said to himself. "But what was an artifact doing here?"
