Chapter 10 - REGISTERING

"Does this crisis, make it impossible for us to register now?" Darkness asked. "Registering newbies isn't an issue. There are always staff for that since they don't expect too much of a hassle form them. But just on a need to know basis is Emilia attacking people going to be a norm?" Lloyd jokes but underneath was concerned of future problems. "Only if necessary. If something is disturbing her she should do what she can to relieve herself." Darkness answered firmly.

"But what of the consequences?" Druid asked stepping closer.

"What of them. Consequences are a normal reaction to every decision made. Plus, I'm the one allowing her so I'll gladly handle any setbacks" Darkness stated.

"You could learn a thing or two from this kid Lloyd." Mary joked, "but before anything else, let's get you registered" She stated walking over to the counter.

Despite having been tired form being chewed out by the mass of adventurers earlier the lady receptionist who was still there agreed to handle them but with some deadly persuasion from Mary. She just sighed ushering the two to a room at the back to fill in the form. Without further issues they entered the furnished office-like room leaving the Iron Terror outside in wait.

A large shelf covered the left wall, two green sofa's facing each other. A table lay between the two sofas, a lamp well placed at its center. The front of the room had a large window halfway obscured by the wooden desk ahead of it. "Please fill out the forms as the guild master comes to stamp them. I'll go inform the testers" she stated ushering them to sit after giving them the forms and immediately left.

Darkness sat on one of the sofas, Emmy obviously sitting beside him. "All they are asking for is the name age Primary Secondary and Tertiary specialties. For these you are to tick either magic or the weapon whose symbol is drawn and finally is a signature." Darkness explained as if Emmy was eager enough to try and make sense of it. "Only one problem remains. You can't write and I haven't touched a quail in a whole century. Should we have had one of them come help us?" Darkness sighed.

The thought came abruptly, the name 'Darkness' floated ahead of him in a purple hue moving towards the paper embedding itself on it with a golden color. "That's another problem solved." He stated pleased, more words appearing and embedding themselves onto both papers.

A large burly man walked in and headed straight to the desk seat. Alright, bring me the papers." He groaned obviously exhausted. Darkness calmly took them to him and the man barely took a glance at them before groaning again.

"You got to put both names. I understand if you don't want it on your cards but for the documents we need your family name" He stated picking the quail from his drawer. Darkness thought for a while contemplating. "Alerion for both of us." He stated coming to a decision. "So Emilia Alerion and Darkness Alerion. I take it you are siblings." He stated filling out their last names. "Your age and date of birth are blank...," He stated looking up at the two before stiffening up. "Don't worry about it. I'll handle the specifics" he added seeming sympathetic. I'm pretty sure he has the wrong grasp of the situation but if it's solved then it's fine.

"For your specialties you have Magic as your first a sword as second and scythe as third. Just to ask. Do you own these weapons?" Darkness simply nodded. "That's fine then. And as for Emilia we have a sword as first magic second and a spear as third. You will be tested in these three based on where you placed it. An adventurer should be adept more in their primary choice than any other. Would you want to have it now or some other time?" He asked

"I'd rather have it now if it isn't a bother." Darkness stated politely.

A moment later, the receptionist walked in more composed than before. "All the proctors are ready for them." She stated ushering them to follow her through another door that led outside.

The guild's back was larger with the design of a mini amphitheater. Lloyd and the rest were sitted in the audience section, excited to watch their rank test. "Don't let them scare you!" Mary shouted, excited as the two walked down to the testing area.

"We'll have Miss Emilia go first." The lady spoke. "What's the order of these tests?" Darkness asked, watching another group walk in, based on how composed they were terming them to be the proctors.

"In the same order you wrote. Primary first. As for her she'll start with sword then magic. Based on how she does with the sword test the spear test might be done or cancelled. Same with you and the scythe."

She answered as Emmy turned to Darkness, whispering to him. "I don't have a sword. Forgot it when I was going after the large boar."

Darkness sighed clearly aware of that fact a long blade Katana materializing in his grip with a pink hilt, her facing lighting up as it was handed to her.

"Please hurry up! The male proctor spoke. Drawing his sword and pointing it at her. "No killing" Darkness stated leaving the receptionist confused, nonetheless the true recipient of the statement heard it well.

"I'll be testing your speed, adaptability, offense and defense." The proctor stated once Emmy got close enough. "Your first task is to try as hard as you can to block my swings. Don't worry if some get through, they won't hit you." He explained and she held her sword with both hands firmly ready for his advance.

The proctor swung his sword and despite her not moving, the clang of two swords meeting rang in the air. She still stood in the same position awaiting his advances. He swung faster the second time and this time, Emmy's movements could be seen turning to block in fluid motion enticing the proctor to continue. He continued swinging, slowly getting too entranced swing like a mad man yet all his attack were blocked effortlessly. "The dudes lost it." Craine stated watching the ruckus unfold below. Realizing he was taking it too far, the proctor stopped, composing himself.

"I commend your defense" He began not wanting to admit his folly, "Now you are to attack me an." His sentence got cut short, Emmy not waiting to hear the end of it before going for a sudden thrust. Acting on instinct her thrust meeting the flat side of his sword but still got slightly pushed back. Emmy moved back gaining some distance before charging in again striking faster and harder each time. The motive was to test Emmy's adaptability but the proctor found himself being the one struggling to adapt to her speed.

"Alright that's enough!" he stated but too late. Emmy thrust her sword again of which he blocked and got pushed back a great distance.

The proctor turned and began walking to his seat. "I have nothing else to test." He stated forcing himself to remain calm. I had to use a buff on myself just to make sure that last thrust didn't break my sword and pop a hole in me and they call that a newbie? That's got to be some kind of joke! He thought to himself as he sat and a lady proctor stood up in a long scholar robe.

Walking up to Emmy, a silver staff with a crimson orb in her grip. "For magic I just need to see your proffiency in how you use your mana." She stated as five large ice pillars sprout up ahead of her. Each thicker and larger than the one ahead of it.

"All you need to do is blast through however many you can with a spell you see fit." She stated putting some distance between her and the pillars.

Her physical strength aside, the amount of mana she has is substantial given her age and seems to be more adept in ice magic. Thus to gauge her potential, I had to rule out ice. Either way I already predict she'll be able to destroy two and scar the third. The proctor thought. "Is using flames alright?" Emmy asked. "Whatever rocks your boat" The proctor answered as a small blue flame appeared ahead of Emmy.

Then again, I stand corrected. The proctor thought to herself seconds before the flame condensed into a dagger. With a single word, "Toria", the dagger shot into the pillars, a violent explosion destroying the first three pillars the fourth one with cracks.

"I didn't get all five" Emmy pouted in disappointment. "Its fine." the proctor stated nervously as she walked back to her seat.

"With that, Emilia's Assessment is concluded." The receptionist stated. "What of the spear?" Darkness asked. "There is no need. Seeing her with one bladed weapon is enough. You can choose whether you want the sword or scythe tested. Both are bladed weapons." She answered.

"Did I do well?" Emmy asked looking for approval from Darkness.

"Exceeded expectations." Darkness stated calmly as he walked towards the testing area.

As Magic was Darkness' primary, the magic proctor found herself back on the testing ground once again, the remaining pillars fading away.

"I miscalculated at first so I'll make it a bit more efficient for testing." She stated calmly.

"I hope I meet your expectations then" Darkness stated politely

Just as before large thick pillars sprout up from the ground, five of them. Each thicker than the last with only one major difference. – "Instead of ice, I've put up adamantite pillars." The lady stated firmly the spectators gasping as if to protest.

"Isn't that too much of a stretch?" Lloyd thought out loud. "I understand he could be stronger than Emilia but adamantite for a newbie might be too much." He added.

"I don't blame you for thinking that as a warrior might see it that way. Darkness in terms of magic is something I myself find to be an anomaly. His mana is constant and not as violent as Emmy's. His is being compressed consciously." Druid explained.

I've seen my fair share of mages and the way mana is seen by the few of us who are able to do so is always the same. That Emilia girl's mana was large and all over the place which may make one say wow she is powerful. For this one, it's smaller but that's not the problem. It's how it flows without fluctuations as if it's being controlled. I'm not dumb dumb enough to be fooled by it. This kid ain't no noob. The proctor thought to herself eyeing Darkness.

"Is being able to compress your mana such a big deal?" Craine asked turning to Mary.

"Mana flows inside all living creatures and the immediate area surrounding them since under normal circumstances you can't keep it all inside. Compressing it inside is like adding more water to an already full container fitting it inside and closing the lid without it exploding. You could kill yourself if done wrong but Darkness is among the few people I know who have done it." Mary answered.

I shouldn't do too much to cause a ruckus. Darkness thought to himself as white strands of mana converged forming an ethereal bow in his hands, holding it to face the pillars. "This should be enough" He stated under his breath as a sparks converged to forming an arrow fully composed of lightning.

He pulled it, the air around them vibrating before he released it sending shockwaves all over heading for the pillars and it disappeared.

For a second nothing happened. "Was it just a color sh...?" The explosion ensued although delayed shaking the ground and a debris tornado following with lightning sparks all around
