Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Initial Pokémon!

The system's voice echoed again.

"Newbie reward successfully issued. The system will now introduce its functions to the host."

"After obtaining this system, whenever your actions cause others to feel shock, you will gain Shock Points."

"As long as the host spends a certain number of Shock Points, you can perform modifications that affect reality."

As the voice finished speaking, several panels appeared before Julian's eyes.

Basic Modification

Consumes 100 Shock Points. Randomly grants items, money, clues, or special rewards.

Intermediate Modification

Consumes 500 Shock Points. Allows the host to modify a Pokémon's Individual Values (IVs), talent potential (up to Champion level), Ability, and learned moves.

Advanced Modification — Locked

Requires 2000 additional Shock Points to unlock.

God-Level Modification — Locked

Requires 10000 additional Shock Points to unlock.

---

Out of the four modification levels, only two were currently available.

But even these two alone were enough to make Julian's eyes widen.

This is incredible!

Basic Modification was essentially a random lottery—you got whatever the system rolled.

If his luck was good, he might even pull something like a Master Ball.

As for Intermediate Modification, it was even more powerful.

It could directly alter a Pokémon's Ability, IVs, potential, and even its moveset.

That was an extremely terrifying ability.

Normally, once a Pokémon was born, its talent, Ability, and IVs were basically fixed.

To a large extent, these determined the maximum strength that Pokémon could reach in the future.

But with this system…

None of those limitations mattered anymore.

Looking at the two still-locked modification functions below, Julian felt even more excited.

If Intermediate Modification was already this strong, then what about the higher tiers?

Could Advanced Modification directly modify levels?

Or even create a Legendary Pokémon out of thin air?

And going even further…

Common cheat abilities like unlimited money or unlimited Master Balls—

Could those also become reality?

The more Julian thought about it, the more pleased he felt.

As for Shock Points, he didn't think they would be too difficult to obtain.

After all…

Just the Rayquaza that could transform into a Caterpie in his possession would probably leave plenty of people speechless.

The system's voice sounded again.

"Task panel unlocked."

Another brand-new light screen appeared before Julian.

The panel was divided into two sections:

Daily Tasks

Main Story Tasks

Julian first checked the Daily Tasks.

"Striving for Progress (C-Level)"

Use any modification function once.

Task Description:

With a modifier system in hand, wouldn't it be foolish not to use it?

Reward:

1 Basic Modification opportunity.

Julian couldn't complete this task yet.

After all, he didn't currently have any modification opportunities.

So he shifted his attention to the Main Story Tasks.

"New Arrival" (Beginner Task)

Obtain your first Pokémon within 12 hours.

Task Description:

The Pokémon College Entrance Exam is tomorrow. You don't really think waiting for your egg to hatch will be fast enough, do you?

Reward:

• Random SSS-Rank Character Skill

• Intermediate Modification ×1

Note:

If the task is not completed within 12 hours, it will automatically fail, and all subsequent tasks will remain locked.

The reward for this main quest was incredibly generous.

It even included the modification opportunity Julian needed right now.

But after reading the task description, Julian suddenly realized something very important.

He quickly took out his phone and checked the time.

5:00 PM.

The Caterpie egg required 24 hours to hatch.

That meant it wouldn't hatch until tomorrow afternoon.

But the Pokémon College Entrance Exam would already be over before noon tomorrow!

Whether it was for the exam or the task reward, Julian needed to obtain another Pokémon.

And he had to do it immediately.

Julian thought for a moment before carefully placing the Delta Meteorite into his pocket.

This was a crucial item that would allow Rayquaza to undergo Mega Evolution in the future.

He definitely couldn't afford to lose it.

His gaze then shifted toward the Pokémon egg.

The incubation device given by the system appeared to be high quality, so there was no need to worry about the egg failing to hatch.

He carefully locked it inside his cabinet.

Then he began to think.

In this world, obtaining a Pokémon wasn't as simple as it was in the anime or games.

You couldn't just receive one for free when you turned ten and travel around the world sightseeing.

Because in the real world, the destructive power of Pokémon was terrifying.

A Champion-level Pokémon, if left unchecked, could probably flatten a city's downtown district in less than half an hour.

Even weaker Pokémon could be extremely dangerous to ordinary humans.

Therefore, the largest organization in the world—the Pokémon League—had established strict regulations.

Only Professional Trainers were allowed to freely capture Pokémon, and even they had limits on how many they could own.

Ordinary civilians were not allowed to capture Pokémon.

They could only obtain them through official channels, such as breeding farms, where they had to register and purchase Pokémon.

Furthermore, they were not allowed to own Pokémon with excessive destructive power.

However, there was one exception.

Students.

Anyone studying at a Pokémon high school could prepare their own starter Pokémon.

Students from wealthy families would naturally choose rare Pokémon with excellent base stats.

But not every family could afford that.

Because of this, the Pokémon League also provided starter Pokémon for students.

By paying a fee far below market price, students could receive one.

But even then…

Julian was facing a serious problem.

Even though the price was lower than the market rate, it was still a considerable amount of money.

And naturally—

The more you paid, the better the Pokémon you received.

If you paid nothing…

Then you would only get the worst possible option.

Reality was cruel like that.

No one would pity you.

According to Julian's memories, all the money he currently had…

Was only about 2,000 yuan.

That tiny amount wasn't even enough for the lowest tier, which cost 5,000 yuan.

Julian sighed helplessly.

"Looks like I'll have to pick from whatever leftovers remain…"

The lowest-tier Pokémon, to put it bluntly, were simply there to make up the numbers—the ones nobody else wanted.

Their potential and IVs were usually terrible.

Choosing such a Pokémon for the college entrance exam would obviously lead to poor results.

But suddenly—

Julian froze.

Wait a minute.

I have the God-Level Modification System!

Why am I even worried about this?

Low potential?

Low IVs?

Just modify them!

After making up his mind, Julian quickly calmed himself and immediately headed toward the school's breeding garden.

With the college entrance exam approaching, the school had naturally given students time off to prepare.

And it seemed that in this world, Julian—who couldn't even afford to rent a place and had to stay in the dormitory—was the only student still around.

He didn't encounter a single person along the way.

Soon, he arrived at the entrance of the breeding garden.

"Good afternoon, Uncle Christopher."

Julian greeted the old man sitting by the entrance.

Christopher was responsible for managing the breeding garden and distributing Pokémon.

Since many Pokémon sent by the Pokémon League were kept here, he stayed in the garden even during holidays to care for them.

Because of that, he and Julian had interacted many times before and were already familiar with each other.

Christopher looked up, clearly surprised.

"Little Julian? What brings you here?"

Julian got straight to the point.

"I want to receive a Pokémon."

Christopher froze.

"Didn't you refuse every time before? Why the sudden change now…?"

He was genuinely curious.

This kid had previously insisted he would never come to receive a Pokémon.

"I want one now. Uncle Christopher, just take me to see them."

Julian blinked and quickly changed the subject.

Seeing this, Christopher decided not to press further and simply nodded.

"Alright then."

"But let me remind you—if you haven't paid, you can only choose from the Pokémon that others didn't want."

"Come with me."
