The four of them stood outside the house.
Johan, Roshan, and Sophie remained close together, while Grendle stood beside them, still tightly restrained.
Johan was unable to move.
The voice he had heard moments earlier was still echoing inside his mind.
"Johan... come inside."
He looked toward the front door.
Slowly...
The door began to open by itself.
Creeeeak...
The sound echoed through the silent surroundings.
Nobody touched it.
Nobody stood near it.
Yet the door continued opening until it was completely wide.
Inside the house, there was nothing but darkness.
Johan stared into the blackness.
At first, he could see nothing.
Then...
Two blue eyes appeared.
They were floating in the darkness.
The same blue eyes.
The eyes that had haunted Maria.
The eyes that had appeared again and again throughout their lives.
Johan's breathing became unsteady.
Roshan stared at them in terror.
"Johan..." he whispered.
"I see them."
The blue eyes slowly began moving toward them.
Closer.
And closer.
A powerful wind suddenly swept through the entrance.
Dust rose from the ground and filled the air.
Johan covered his face.
Roshan struggled to keep his eyes open.
Sophie stepped backward.
She was terrified.
She looked at the darkness in front of her, then suddenly turned around and tried to run.
But before she could get far, Grendle moved.
With surprising force, he broke free from the restraints that had been placed around him and grabbed Sophie.
"Let me go!" Sophie cried.
She struggled against him.
But Grendle held her tightly.
At the same time, Johan and Roshan could barely see through the dust and violent wind.
The blue eyes continued approaching.
Slowly.
Silently.
As if something inside the darkness was walking directly toward them.
Sophie managed to pull herself away from Grendle.
She immediately ran.
She disappeared into the forest without looking back.
"Sophie!" Johan shouted.
But the wind swallowed his voice.
Johan and Roshan continued struggling against the dust and wind.
Then, suddenly...
The wind stopped.
Everything became silent.
Johan slowly lowered his hands.
Roshan looked toward the entrance.
The darkness had cleared.
And someone was standing there.
A woman.
She slowly stepped out of the house.
Her long black gown moved gently in the remaining breeze.
Her hair was loose and wavy.
Her blue eyes stared directly at them.
Johan froze.
Roshan froze.
Neither of them could believe what they were seeing.
Johan stared at her face.
His voice trembled.
"Cathy...?"
The woman continued walking toward them.
Johan stepped forward.
"Cathy, what is this?"
The woman stopped.
Her expression changed.
"Don't call me Cathy."
Johan stared at her.
She looked directly into his eyes.
"My name is Gore."
Silence.
Then Grendle began to laugh.
A deep, unsettling laugh.
Johan turned toward him.
Grendle looked at the woman with pride.
"Yes," he said.
"She is the real Gore."
He looked back at Johan and Roshan.
"She is my sister."
His smile widened.
"Daughter of Ash and Raven."
Johan's face went pale.
Roshan could barely speak.
Grendle continued laughing.
"She is the one who has been haunting your family for so long."
Johan looked at Gore again.
The truth had finally stood before him.
The mysterious woman behind the blue eyes...
The person they had been searching for...
The person who had been hiding among them all this time...
was Cathy.
But Cathy was no longer standing before them.
Only Gore remained.
Johan stood completely frozen.
He could not take his eyes away from Gore.
But somewhere inside his mind, another image began to appear.
Cathy.
The Cathy he knew.
The Cathy he had spent time with.
The Cathy with whom he had shared quiet conversations, laughter, and the romantic moments they had once exchanged. Memories came rushing through his mind one after another, each one becoming sharper as he looked at the woman standing before him.
The person he had trusted.
The person he had cared about.
The person he believed was Cathy.
His eyes slowly filled with tears.
One tear rolled down his cheek.
Then another.
Johan's lips trembled.
He looked at Gore as though he were desperately trying to find the Cathy he knew somewhere behind that face.
But suddenly, Gore's expression changed.
Her face appeared horrifying in the darkness, and those unnatural blue eyes stared directly into Johan's eyes.
Johan's breath stopped.
He was completely speechless.
Gore began laughing.
Her horrible laughter echoed through the night.
Johan could barely process what he was seeing.
"This... this can't be real," he whispered.
His voice shook.
"I still can't believe what I'm seeing."
He stared at her through his tears.
"I wish... I wish this was just a dream."
Johan remained standing there, unable to move.
Roshan looked at him in terror.
"Johan, come on!"
Roshan grabbed Johan and tried to pull him away.
They began running.
But suddenly, both of them stopped.
Their bodies became completely still.
It was as though an invisible force had taken control of them.
Johan and Roshan stood motionless like statues.
They couldn't move their arms.
They couldn't move their legs.
They couldn't even turn their heads.
Then, without understanding what was happening, their bodies began moving forward on their own.
Step by step, they were drawn toward Gore.
Gore simply watched them.
She didn't move.
She didn't need to.
The two men were helpless against her power.
Suddenly, their bodies dropped to the ground.
But moments later, they began moving again, their bodies seemingly controlled by something beyond their understanding.
Slowly, they were forced toward the house.
Gore watched silently as Johan and Roshan entered.
Once they disappeared inside, Gore turned toward Grendle.
A dark smile appeared on her face.
"Grendle," she said, "our time has come."
Grendle looked at her.
"Today, I'm going to continue the ritual that our mother and father left unfinished on that day."
Her blue eyes seemed to glow in the darkness.
"And today... our revenge is going to end."
Gore and Grendle looked at each other.
Then both of them began laughing.
Their laughter echoed around the house.
After a moment, Gore turned toward Grendle.
"I have kidnapped Henry and Silane," she said. "I tied them inside the car. Bring them to our place."
Grendle nodded.
Gore turned and walked toward the house.
She disappeared through the doorway.
Grendle then moved toward the car.
He opened the door.
Inside, Henry and Silane were tied up and unable to free themselves.
Grendle leaned toward Henry.
He slowly raised his hand as if he were about to touch him.
But suddenly—
THUD!
Something struck Grendle heavily from behind.
He staggered forward and immediately grabbed the back of his head.
Slowly, he turned around.
His eyes widened.
Standing behind him was Sophie.
Grendle tried to focus on her, but his vision began to blur.
Sophie stood there, breathing heavily, still holding the piece of wood in her hand.
Grendle's strength disappeared.
He became faint and collapsed to the ground.
Sophie stared at him for a moment.
Then she quickly turned toward the car.
Her eyes widened when she saw Henry and Silane tied inside.
"Henry... Silane..."
She rushed toward them.
But behind Sophie, the unconscious Grendle remained motionless on the ground.
And inside the house, Gore was waiting.
The ritual was about to begin.
Sophie immediately rushed toward the car and began freeing Henry and Silane from the ropes.
After struggling for a moment, she finally managed to release them.
Silane looked at Sophie with tears in her eyes.
"Sophie..."
Henry quickly stood up.
"Sophie, Maria is inside. I don't know what Cathy is going to do with her."
Silane and Henry immediately started moving toward the house.
But Sophie stopped them.
"Wait!"
They turned toward her.
"Don't do anything now," Sophie said firmly. "If we rush inside without knowing what is happening, it could become dangerous for us... and for Maria too."
Henry looked toward the house anxiously.
"But we can't just leave her there."
"I know," Sophie replied. "That's why we have to be careful."
She took a breath and continued, "I've already informed the police about everything that's happening here. They will arrive soon. Until then, our main goal is to slowly enter the house and try to save Maria. We don't know what Gore has planned, so we can't make a careless move."
Henry and Silane looked at each other.
Finally, they nodded.
The three of them slowly approached the house.
The doorway stood open.
Inside, the house was almost completely silent.
They carefully stepped inside.
"Sophie..." Silane whispered.
"Stay close," Sophie replied.
They began searching through the rooms.
"Maria?" Henry called softly.
There was no answer.
"Johan?" Sophie called.
Nothing.
"Roshan?"
Again, silence.
They continued moving deeper into the house.
Then suddenly, they noticed something in the centre of the room.
A basement entrance.
It had been opened.
A dark passage descended beneath the house.
Henry stared into it.
"What is this?"
Sophie slowly approached the opening.
Silane stood beside her.
They couldn't see what was below.
Only darkness.
Sophie carefully leaned forward, trying to see inside.
Then—
A sound came from behind them.
All three froze.
Silane slowly turned around.
Henry turned next.
Sophie followed.
Their faces immediately changed.
They were surrounded.
Everywhere they looked, there were eyes.
Blue eyes.
One pair.
Then another.
And another.
And another.
They were everywhere.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Surrounding them from every direction.
Silane's breath caught in her throat.
"Henry..."
Henry couldn't answer.
Sophie stared around them, unable to understand what she was seeing.
There were so many eyes that she couldn't even count them.
They seemed to fill the darkness around them.
Then the eyes began moving.
Slowly at first.
Then faster.
They approached the three of them from every direction.
Sophie grabbed Silane's hand.
"Run!"
But there was nowhere to go.
The three of them stumbled backward.
The darkness seemed to rush toward them.
Henry reached for Silane.
Sophie tried to hold them both.
But suddenly, they lost their balance.
Their feet slipped near the open basement.
And all three of them fell into the darkness below.
Their voices disappeared beneath the house.
The blue eyes followed them.
Then, for a moment, everything became completely silent.
The basement fell into an eerie silence. The only sounds that disturbed the stillness were the frightened breathing of the captives and the faint whispers that escaped their trembling lips. The air felt heavy, as though the darkness itself were waiting for something terrible to begin.
Suddenly, a flicker of fire appeared on the cold stone floor.
One flame became two, and two became many. Within moments, fire spread across the ground, forming strange patterns—a great circle surrounded by a star-shaped symbol, its sharp points extending in different directions. Mysterious markings glowed between the flames, creating an ancient design that seemed to belong to a world beyond human understanding.
The fire grew brighter, illuminating the vast, shadowy basement in a sinister orange glow. The dancing flames cast monstrous shadows upon the walls, making them appear to move as though unseen creatures were lurking within the stone.
And at the very centre of the burning symbol sat Maria.
Her head hung limply, her eyes closed, and her body remained completely motionless. She was unconscious, unaware of the terrifying scene unfolding around her. Nothing—not the crackling flames, not the desperate cries of her loved ones, not even the sinister presence standing beside her—could reach her.
Gore stood near Maria, dressed in black. Her face was illuminated by the flickering fire, and her blue eyes shone with an unnatural intensity. Her lips moved continuously as she chanted the ancient ritual, uttering words that sounded unfamiliar and dreadful, as though they had been buried in the earth for centuries, waiting for someone to awaken them.
Beside the ritual circle, Henry, Silane, Johan, Roshan, and Sophie were held captive by heavy iron chains. The cold metal bound their hands and bodies, leaving them helpless as they watched Maria sitting unconscious in the centre of the flames.
"Maria!" Henry cried, desperately pulling against his chains. "Maria, wake up! Please, open your eyes!"
"Maria!" Silane screamed, tears streaming down her face. "Can you hear me, my child? Please, Maria! Get up!"
Johan struggled violently against the chains, his eyes fixed on Maria. "Maria! Please, listen to us! Don't let her do this!"
Roshan tried to free himself, but the iron chains only rattled in response. Sophie, too, fought desperately to break free, her voice trembling as she called Maria's name again and again.
"Maria! Please! Wake up!"
Their cries echoed throughout the basement, rising above the crackling flames and filling the chamber with unbearable anguish.
But Maria did not move.
She remained motionless at the centre of the ritual circle, her face pale beneath the flickering light. It was as though she had been separated from the world around her, trapped somewhere beyond the reach of those who loved her.
Gore's chanting continued.
Then, slowly, she stopped.
The sudden silence was more terrifying than the ritual itself.
Gore lowered her head for a moment before raising it towards the captives. Her blue eyes travelled across their terrified faces and finally settled upon Henry and Silane.
A cruel smile spread across her lips.
"Do you know what this moment means?" she asked softly.
Neither Henry nor Silane answered. They stared at her, their hearts pounding as the flames continued to dance around their daughter.
Gore took a slow step towards them.
"Today," she began, her voice growing colder with every word, "I am going to continue the ritual that my mother and father left unfinished all those years ago."
Henry's face changed. The moment he heard those words, the terrible truth he had feared began to take shape before him.
"No…" he whispered.
Gore's smile widened.
"Yes, Henry. The very same ritual."
She turned her gaze towards Silane.
"You both stopped it that day. You interfered with my parents' work, destroyed everything they had prepared, and took their lives away from them."
Her voice trembled—not with sorrow, but with a rage that had been buried for years.
"You thought that by killing them, you could put an end to everything they had begun. You thought their secrets would die with them. You believed that the world would forget what happened that night."
She let out a bitter laugh.
"But you were wrong!"
The flames suddenly rose higher around the ritual circle, illuminating the ancient markings beneath Maria. The shadows stretched across the walls, twisting into strange shapes that seemed to writhe in the firelight.
Gore spread her arms, her black gown swaying slightly as an unnatural wind swept through the basement.
"My parents' ritual did not end that day," she declared. "It was merely interrupted. Their work, their sacrifice, their dream—all of it has been waiting for this moment."
She turned towards Maria, looking down at the unconscious young woman with a disturbing mixture of devotion and triumph.
"And now, I have everything I need."
"Gore, don't!" Henry shouted, his voice breaking. "Whatever your parents did, Maria has nothing to do with it! Let her go!"
For a fleeting moment, Gore remained silent.
Then she turned back towards him.
"Nothing to do with it?" she repeated, her lips curling into a cold smile. "You still don't understand, do you?"
She stepped closer to the blazing circle.
"Today, I will complete the ritual. Today, I will bring my God into this world."
Her words echoed through the chamber like a terrible promise.
"And when my God rises, no one will be able to stop what is coming. I will make this world remember my parents. I will make everyone pay for what happened to them."
Her blue eyes burned brighter.
"And you two…" She pointed towards Henry and Silane. "You will witness the completion of everything you tried to destroy."
For a moment, the entire basement seemed to tremble beneath the weight of her words.
Then Gore threw back her head and began to laugh.
It started as a low, chilling chuckle, but quickly grew into wild, uncontrollable laughter that reverberated through the chamber. The sound bounced off the stone walls, mingling with the crackling flames until it became almost impossible to distinguish one from the other.
Henry pulled desperately against his chains.
"Gore! Stop this madness!"
But she only laughed harder.
Silane sobbed as she watched Maria lying helplessly within the burning symbol. Johan and Roshan struggled to free themselves, while Sophie stared at Gore in horror, realising that the woman standing before them was no longer the Cathy they had once known.
And at the centre of it all, Maria remained unconscious.
The flames continued to burn around her.
The ancient ritual had begun.
And whatever Gore intended to awaken was drawing closer to the world of the living.
Gore reached for the ancient book lying beside her. It was the very same book that had once been torn into several pieces—the book that held the forbidden secrets of the demon Vaskor. But now, a complete copy lay in her hands, its old pages filled with the dark knowledge her parents had left behind.
With trembling anticipation, Gore opened the book and turned to a particular page. She dipped her finger into her own blood and began to write a name across the yellowed surface.
MARIA.
The moment she finished writing the name, the entire house seemed to shudder.
Outside, hundreds of crows appeared from the darkness, their dreadful cries filling the night. They circled the house in a massive, swirling formation, their black wings blotting out the moonlight. Suddenly, the birds began colliding with one another in midair. One after another, they struck each other violently and plunged towards the ground, their lifeless bodies scattering around the house.
Inside the basement, the yellow flames surrounding Maria began to change.
Slowly, the golden fire turned crimson.
The flames flickered wildly, casting blood-red shadows across the walls. Gore lifted her head, and her blue eyes began to transform. The colour drained away, replaced by a terrifying, glowing red.
Everyone watched in horror.
"GORE! STOP THIS!" Johan screamed, pulling desperately at the chains binding him. Tears streamed down his face as he struggled to break free. "PLEASE! WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING, STOP IT!"
But Gore didn't even look at him.
Henry and Silane were sobbing uncontrollably. They had already lost so much, and now they were forced to watch their daughter become the centre of a ritual they had once fought desperately to prevent.
"Maria!" Silane cried. "My child, please wake up! Please!"
Her voice echoed through the basement, but Maria remained motionless.
There was nothing they could do. The chains held them captive, and Gore's ritual continued to unfold before their helpless eyes.
At that very moment, footsteps sounded from the basement entrance.
Grendle appeared in the doorway.
His gaze immediately fell upon Gore, who stood beside Maria, chanting the ancient spells from the book. The crimson flames danced around them, and the air itself seemed to tremble with an unseen force.
For a moment, Grendle simply watched.
Then, without hesitation, he stepped forward and joined his sister.
Standing beside Gore, he began chanting the same forbidden words, his voice merging with hers. Together, the siblings continued the ritual their parents had begun so many years ago.
The red flames grew higher.
Maria's fingers twitched.
A faint movement passed through her body, and her head tilted slightly to one side. Then, slowly, her mouth began to open.
Blood trickled from the corners of her lips.
"MARIA!" Henry screamed.
Silane stared at her daughter in absolute terror. The sight was too much for her to bear. Her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed, fainting against the chains that held her upright.
"STOP IT!" Johan shouted, his voice breaking. "GORE, I'M BEGGING YOU! STOP!"
Roshan struggled desperately beside him, while Henry continued calling out for Maria. Their cries rose above the relentless chanting, but neither Gore nor Grendle paid them any attention.
The ritual had reached its final stage.
And then—
Everything stopped.
The chanting ceased.
The crimson flames surrounding Maria flickered once, twice, and suddenly vanished.
Darkness swallowed the centre of the basement. Yet, strangely, the room remained illuminated by a dim, unnatural glow, as though an invisible presence had taken the place of the extinguished fire.
Not a single person spoke.
Not even the sound of breathing seemed loud enough to disturb the dreadful silence.
Slowly, Maria began to move.
She lifted her head.
Then, with an unnatural stillness, she rose to her feet.
Her eyes remained tightly closed. Her bloodstained lips parted slightly, and her body stood motionless in the middle of the basement.
Gore and Grendle turned towards her.
A strange smile spread across Gore's face.
Together, the siblings began chanting once more—not with the desperation of those trying to complete a ritual, but with the reverence of worshippers welcoming their god.
"Vaskor…"
The name slipped from their lips like a sacred prayer.
Maria's fingers curled slowly.
Her head lifted.
And then, without warning—
She opened her eyes.
They were blue.
Not the ordinary blue of human eyes, but a deep, unnatural blue that seemed to hold an ancient darkness within it. The same terrifying blue that had haunted the forest, appeared in the shadows, and followed their every step.
Johan stopped struggling.
Henry stared at his daughter, unable to comprehend what he was seeing. Roshan stood frozen, while Silane remained unconscious.
Gore and Grendle continued chanting, their red eyes fixed upon the figure standing before them.
Maria no longer looked like the daughter Henry and Silane knew.
Something else was looking out through her eyes.
Something ancient.
Something merciless.
Something that had waited in the darkness for generations to return to the world of the living.
Maria was gone.
In her place stood the vessel of the demon they had feared for so long.
VASKOR HAD AWAKENED.
Maria's possessed body began to move.
Step by step, she walked towards Henry and Silane. Her movements were slow, unnatural, almost mechanical—as though invisible hands were guiding every part of her body. Her eyes glowed an eerie, uninterrupted blue. There was no recognition in them. No love. No fear. No trace of the daughter who had once looked at her parents with warmth and affection.
Only something ancient stared through them.
Gore stood beside her, holding a bloodstained sword. A wicked smile curved her lips as she extended the weapon towards Maria.
"Take it," she whispered.
Maria's fingers twitched.
"Take the sword, Maria."
Slowly, Maria raised her hand and wrapped her fingers around its hilt.
Gore leaned closer, her crimson eyes burning with delight.
"Now," she commanded, pointing the blade towards Henry and Silane, "kill them."
"NO!"
Johan's scream tore through the basement.
"MARIA! DON'T LISTEN TO HER! PLEASE! THAT'S YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER!"
But Maria did not turn.
The sword rose in her hand.
Henry stared at his daughter, unable to breathe. Silane, still trembling, struggled to lift her head. Tears streamed down Henry's face as he watched the blade slowly turn towards them.
"Maria…" he whispered, his voice breaking. "It's Appa. Look at me, my child. Please…"
For one fleeting moment, the sword stopped moving.
Gore's smile disappeared.
Then Maria took another step.
And another.
The blade was getting closer.
Yet, somewhere beyond the reach of the living world, another Maria was fighting for her life.
The ground beneath Maria's feet was soaked in blood.
She jolted awake with a strangled gasp, her hands flying towards her chest as she struggled to understand where she was. The air was suffocatingly hot. A vast river of blood flowed through the desolate landscape, its dark surface churning beneath a sky that burned an impossible shade of red.
There were no trees.
No houses.
No stars.
Only endless darkness, a blood-red horizon, and the stench of death.
Maria staggered to her feet.
"Where am I?" she whispered.
Her voice vanished into the vast emptiness.
Then she heard it.
A whisper.
Maria…
She spun around.
Nobody.
She began walking backwards, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Maria…
The voice came again.
This time, it sounded closer.
She clapped her hands over her ears.
"Who's there?"
A laugh answered her.
It was low and distorted, yet strangely familiar—like a human voice dragged through the depths of a nightmare.
Then another voice joined it.
And another.
Whispers rose from the ground, drifted through the air, and poured out of the darkness. Some called her name. Others murmured words she could not understand. Somewhere among them, she heard desperate sobbing, bloodcurdling screams, and the sound of someone begging for mercy.
Maria ran.
She ran along the banks of the blood river, her feet slipping across the crimson ground. The voices followed her, multiplying with every step.
You cannot escape.
You belong here.
Your body is no longer yours.
She stumbled and fell to her knees.
"No! Stop! PLEASE, STOP!"
The voices grew louder.
They screamed directly into her mind, tearing through every thought, every memory, every fragment of peace she possessed. Maria pressed her palms against her ears until they hurt, but the sounds did not come from the world around her.
They came from inside her.
She could feel them crawling through her thoughts.
The whispers were not merely trying to frighten her.
They were trying to break her.
Because this was no ordinary place.
This was the prison of her soul—a desolate realm of torment where Vaskor had dragged her consciousness while it claimed her living body.
In the world above, Maria was walking towards her parents with a sword in her hand.
Here, her soul was trapped in hell.
And if she surrendered here, there might be nothing left of her to return.
Maria scrambled to her feet and ran again.
The red river stretched endlessly beside her. The sky seemed to bleed. Every direction looked the same, and every shadow appeared to move when she wasn't looking.
She could run no farther.
Her legs gave way.
Maria collapsed onto the ground and curled into herself, desperately covering her ears.
"Please…" she sobbed. "Someone… please help me…"
The voices surrounded her.
They howled.
They mocked her.
They called her weak.
And beneath them all, a deeper voice began to speak—a voice so vast and terrible that the very ground seemed to tremble beneath its words.
You are mine, Maria.
She squeezed her eyes shut.
Your body is mine.
Her breathing became ragged.
Your life is mine.
Maria began to shake.
And soon… your soul will be mine forever.
For several agonising seconds, she could do nothing but tremble.
Then—
Something changed.
Maria stopped crying.
Her hands remained pressed against her ears, but beneath the deafening storm of voices, a thought surfaced.
A memory.
Her mother's embrace.
Her father's smile.
The warmth of a familiar hand resting upon her shoulder.
The faces of the people she loved.
The life she had lived.
The life Vaskor was trying to steal.
"No," she whispered.
The voices continued.
Maria pressed her hands harder against her ears.
"No…"
Her voice grew stronger.
"I said… NO!"
She lifted her head.
"I AM NOT YOURS!"
Suddenly, every sound vanished.
The screams died.
The whispers disappeared.
Even the distant river seemed to fall silent.
For the first time since awakening in that terrible realm, Maria could hear her own breathing.
She slowly lowered her hands.
Silence stretched across the blood-soaked wasteland.
Then, high above her, something appeared in the red sky.
A tiny point of white light.
Maria stared at it.
The light grew brighter, piercing the crimson clouds like a star that had fallen into a world where hope had long since died. Its radiance spread across the sky, forcing the surrounding darkness to retreat.
Maria rose unsteadily to her feet.
"Who… are you?"
The light pulsed.
And a voice descended from above.
"Maria."
She froze.
There was something about that voice.
Something impossibly familiar.
It did not sound like the cruel whispers that had tormented her. It carried no hatred, no threat, no demand.
It was gentle.
Yet it possessed a strength that made even the terrible silence feel insignificant.
"Maria," the voice repeated. "Listen to me."
She looked up, tears gathering in her eyes.
"Who are you? Why am I here? Please… help me!"
"You have been brought here because Vaskor believes that by possessing your body, it can destroy you from within."
Maria's lips trembled.
"Then… am I dead?"
"No."
The answer came with such certainty that she stopped breathing for a moment.
"You are not dead, Maria. You are still alive. Your body is still fighting. And somewhere inside it, a part of you is still resisting."
Maria looked down at her trembling hands.
"I can't fight it," she whispered. "It's too strong. I can hear it inside my head. I can feel it taking everything away from me."
"Look at the life you have lived, Maria. Look at everything you have survived. Do you truly believe that a creature born from darkness can erase you so easily?"
She said nothing.
"Your strength does not come from the absence of fear. It comes from standing against it, even when every part of you is afraid."
Maria slowly lifted her head.
"You have a strong soul," the voice continued. "Stronger than Vaskor understands. It can invade your body. It can torment your mind. It can surround you with darkness. But it cannot make your soul surrender unless you surrender it yourself."
Maria's tears fell silently.
"But how do I fight something like that?"
"Remember who you are."
The white light blazed brighter.
"Remember the people who love you. Remember the life that belongs to you. Vaskor wants you to believe that you are alone, because a soul that believes it is alone is easier to break."
A pause followed.
Then the voice spoke again, and this time its words seemed to echo through Maria's very being.
"OPEN YOUR EYES, MARIA."
She stared at the light.
"YOU ARE NOT ALONE."
Something stirred within her.
Not fear.
Not despair.
Something she had almost forgotten.
Hope.
The white light spread across the heavens, illuminating the blood river, the barren ground, and the endless red sky. For the first time, Maria no longer saw herself as a helpless prisoner.
She saw a battlefield.
And she was still standing.
Maria wiped the tears from her face.
Her hands slowly curled into fists.
"I'm not going to let it take my life," she whispered.
The light pulsed.
"I won't let it hurt my family."
The ground trembled beneath her feet.
"I won't let it destroy me."
Maria raised her head, and for the first time, she looked directly into the heart of the darkness without turning away.
"I AM MARIA."
Her voice thundered across the wasteland.
"AND THIS IS MY SOUL!"
The red sky shuddered.
The blood river began to recede.
A crack of white light split the heavens.
And somewhere beyond the boundaries of that realm, something inside Maria's possessed body began to resist.
The white light in the red sky grew brighter until Maria could barely look at it.
Then the ground beneath her feet split apart.
A thunderous crack echoed across the realm.
One by one, enormous doors began to emerge from the darkness.
They appeared in a vast circle around her, each standing taller than a palace gate. Some were made of ancient wood, others of black iron, and others of a strange, pale stone marked with symbols that seemed to shift whenever she tried to understand them.
There were more doors than she could count.
Each one stood closed.
Each one carried a different mark.
Maria turned slowly, staring at the impossible sight.
"What… are these?"
The familiar voice answered.
"Your life."
Maria looked towards the white light.
"Every door represents a part of you. Every memory. Every wound. Every choice. Every moment that shaped the person you became."
As the voice spoke, the doors began to glow.
As the doors glowed brighter, a mysterious voice whispered one final sentence.
"But remember… one of these doors holds a truth you were never meant to discover."
Suddenly, one door creaked open.
And from within, someone whispered her name.
