Cherreads

Chapter 5 - the preparations begin

The morning sun streamed through the massive windows of Ronan's penthouse, illuminating the polished floors and expensive furnishings. Fia stood in the middle of the living room, arms crossed, taking it all in. She had never seen a space so luxurious in her entire life. Everything from the marble countertops to the elegant chandelier screamed power, wealth, and control.

Yet none of it intimidated her. Not anymore.

She had a purpose. She had a plan. And she wasn't going to let anyone, not even Ronan, make her feel small again.

"Are you ready for today?" Ronan's voice broke through her thoughts. He appeared in the doorway, dressed in a crisp, tailored suit that seemed made for him. His golden eyes gleamed with that same calm, dangerous intensity that had made her pulse race from the first moment they met.

"I'm ready," she replied, her voice firm.

Ronan's lips curved slightly. "Good. Because today, we begin the process. You'll meet my pack, my advisors, and everyone involved in the arrangements for your… temporary marriage."

Fia raised an eyebrow. "Temporary? You mean you're still thinking of backing out?"

He shook his head slowly. "I didn't say that. I said temporary in the sense that you'll need to navigate carefully. My pack doesn't tolerate mistakes, and neither do I."

Fia smiled faintly. "Then I guess I'll have to impress them."

Ronan studied her for a moment, his gaze piercing, and then, without another word, he turned and walked toward the elevators. Fia followed, keeping pace. Every step she took felt like walking into a storm she could both survive and command.

The Alpha palace was even larger than she had imagined. Servants moved silently, carrying trays of food, arranging flowers, and preparing for the ceremonies ahead. Fia tried not to feel overwhelmed, but the scale of everything was intimidating.

"First," Ronan said, "you will meet the council of elders."

Fia nodded. She had heard whispers about the council the most powerful and influential wolves in the continent. If she wanted to secure her position, she had to earn their respect.

The doors to the council chamber opened, and Fia stepped inside. Ten figures sat in high-backed chairs, their eyes assessing, cold, and calculating. Every wolf in the room exuded authority, but their attention quickly fell to her.

"Who is she?" one of the elders asked, his voice gruff.

Ronan's golden eyes turned toward the group. "This is Fia Vale. She will be my mate."

A murmur rippled through the council.

"Mate?" another elder questioned. "You've chosen her? She's… untested. An outsider."

Fia straightened. "I may be an outsider, but I'm not weak. I will uphold my duties and prove my worth. You will not regret this choice."

The council fell silent for a moment. The boldness in her voice surprised even them. Most outsiders would have trembled under their scrutiny, but Fia stood her ground.

One elder leaned forward. "We shall see. You will undergo the training and preparation expected of a Luna. Fail, and you leave the palace immediately."

Fia nodded. "Understood."

Ronan's hand brushed lightly against hers. "She will not fail," he said, almost as if speaking for both of them.

Fia felt a rush of warmth at his words. For the first time, she realized that having him on her side even partially was both a shield and a challenge.

The next few days were a whirlwind. Fia was introduced to the palace staff, trained in etiquette, and shown the inner workings of the Alpha's domain. Every task tested her patience, intelligence, and composure. From learning the political hierarchies to understanding the pack's rituals, she was immersed in a world she never thought she'd belong to.

And yet, with every challenge, she proved herself. She wasn't just surviving she was thriving.

Ronan watched her progress silently. Sometimes, his gaze was intimidating, almost predatory, but other times it softened, revealing a flicker of admiration. Fia noticed these rare moments and used them to her advantage, learning how to navigate the Alpha's moods as carefully as she navigated the palace halls.

But not everyone welcomed her presence. Hazel's shadow loomed over the palace in subtle ways through whispers, reports, and servants who seemed sympathetic to her sister. Fia could feel the resentment, and it made her more determined.

She would not be intimidated.

She would not be humiliated again.

And she would prove that even a rejected Omega could rise to command respect and fear from the most powerful Alpha in the continent.

By the fifth day, Fia had secured her position among the palace staff and earned cautious respect from the council. Even the most skeptical elders began to nod approvingly as she demonstrated intelligence, courage, and sharp instincts.

And then, in the quiet of the evening, Ronan approached her in the palace gardens. The moonlight glinted off the silver fountain, creating ripples of light across the marble path.

"You've done well," he said, his voice soft but commanding. "Most would have crumbled by now. But you… you've impressed me."

Fia's heart skipped. "I didn't do it for you."

Ronan's lips twitched with amusement. "I know. And that's exactly why it matters."

She looked at him, feeling the pull between them, the dangerous magnetism that neither could deny. "What happens next?" she asked.

"Next," he replied, his gaze intense, "you become a part of my world. And in my world, mistakes are punished… but strength is rewarded."

Fia smiled faintly, the thrill of the challenge coursing through her veins. "Then I guess I'll have to be very, very strong."

Ronan's eyes glinted. "You will be. Or I will make sure of it."

And as Fia walked back toward the palace, she felt the first flicker of something dangerous and exhilarating: she was no longer just surviving. She was beginning to take control.
