Chapter 13 - THE HERO’S WATER AND THE SHADOWS OF KONOHA

The Takigakure ninja never expected an ambush in the heart of their own territory. In the blink of an eye, Danzo's wind blade had claimed a Chunin, while the coordinated fire-infused shuriken from Aki and Kagami tore through two lower-ranking scouts.

Aki flickered in front of the four remaining Genin before they could even process the sudden violence. His hands blurred into a sequence of seals.

"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"

A localized, violent gale erupted, sweeping the four ninja into a crushing vortex. Their bodies twisted unnaturally under the atmospheric pressure before the life was squeezed out of them.

With the fodder cleared, Aki scanned the battlefield. Kagami was locked in a stalemate against two highly coordinated Chunin, while Danzo engaged the enemy Jonin in a high-speed duel. Seeing Kagami slightly pressured, Aki took a deep breath, molding his chakra into his lungs.

"Fire Style: Dragon Fire Technique!"

Three serpentine heads of flame roared toward the two Waterfall ninja. One of them reacted instantly, pulling water from the nearby lake.

"Water Style: Water Dragon Triple Strike!"

A massive aquatic beast rose, dousing the flames in a cloud of thick steam. The Takigakure ninja sneered. "Two Uchiha fire-users? In a land of water, even an elite stands no chance against us!"

The two brothers began a simultaneous, complex hand seal sequence. Aki's eyes narrowed as he recognized the rhythm. Water Dragon Bullet? This level of scale from two Chunin? In this environment, the power is going to be devastating! Beside him, Kagami's Three-Tomoe Sharingan spun with lethal precision, his hands mirroring the enemy's seals at a speed the naked eye couldn't follow. Aki, unable to replicate high-level Water Style, instead opted for overwhelming heat.

"Fire Style: Great Fire Dragon Dance!"

Two massive water dragons soared into the sky, crashing down toward the Uchiha duo. Kagami's replicated water dragon collided with the first, exploding into a torrential downpour. Meanwhile, Aki's spiraling fire dragon met the second, the intense heat causing the water to flash-evaporate into a blinding white mist.

Taking advantage of the cover, Aki unsheathed his short blade and flickered behind them, attempting to split their formation. Kagami followed with a subtle ocular genjutsu:

"Genjutsu: Mist Servant!"

One brother froze, trapped in a loop of illusory shadows. Panicking, the other grabbed his comrade and retreated toward their leader.

The enemy Jonin, struggling against Danzo, gasped as he saw Kagami's eyes. "The Sharingan! You're Konoha shinobi! Why are you attacking us in the heart of the Waterfall?!"

Danzo's voice was as cold as a grave. "Since you've identified us, you definitely cannot be allowed to leave."

In the ensuing chaos, Aki used a wind-enhanced kunai to shatter a water blade, while Kagami drove a lethal strike into an opponent's heart. Aki finished the remaining trapped ninja with a point-blank Great Fireball, reducing them to ash.

Seeing his squad annihilated, the Jonin attempted to dive into the lake, intending to escape through the labyrinthine underground rivers. But Aki was faster.

"Fire Style: Hiding in Dust and Ashes!"

A series of concentrated explosions hammered the water's edge just as the Jonin reached it, turning the man into a charred husk before he could touch the surface.

With the threats neutralized, Danzo ordered a search. Aki eventually found three scraps of cloth on a scorched corpse. When pieced together, they formed a map pointing directly to the center of the lake.

"Captain Danzo, could the 'Hero's Water' be hidden beneath that Great Tree?" Aki pointed toward the sky-scraping sentinel in the middle of the water.

Danzo dove into the depths, returning minutes later with a gourd-shaped glass bottle. Kagami inspected it. "No alarm seals, just a simple wind barrier to vacuum-seal the contents. We should let Torifu look at this; he's the expert on stimulants and medicines."

Back at the inn, Torifu Akimichi uncorked the bottle and tasted a single drop. Immediately, a visible, pale blue aura of chakra erupted around him. His presence felt ten times heavier.

"What's the verdict?" Danzo asked.

Torifu looked grim. "This stuff is dangerous. It grants anyone—ninja or civilian—a ten-fold increase in chakra. But the price is the same as my clan's forbidden red pill: it burns your life force. Use too much, and your heart will simply stop."

Danzo took the bottle. "The Waterfall is too unstable right now. We'll each carry a single dose for emergencies. Kagami, seal them into individual vials."

Late that night, Aki lay on the roof, staring at the moon through the leaves of the Great Tree. A persistent sense of dread gnawed at his gut—a feeling that had followed him since leaving Konoha.

Kagami appeared beside him. "Young Master, what's on your mind?"

Aki was quiet for a long time. "Kagami... do you think an Uchiha will ever become Hokage?"

Kagami was stunned into silence. Aki smiled sadly. "Master Hashirama once told me I had the potential. But look at the village's eyes when we walk by. If we can change that... if we can prove we are the village's shield... maybe one day, our family will lead."

Looking at the boy who carried the weight of a middle-aged soul in a child's body, Kagami felt a surge of genuine conviction. He bowed his head. I will follow him, even to the end of the world.
