Chapter 5 - Last Stand

Dianva was the second largest city in Eurazania.

Most trade flowing through the Beast Kingdom passed through this place. Its location made it valuable—close enough to the Jura Forest that monster materials could be harvested and sold quickly, yet far enough from the deepest parts of the forest that merchants could travel with only moderate risk.

More importantly, Dianva was the only city that had even a rough route leading toward the western nations.

Calling it a road would have been generous.

It was little more than a trail carved through years of stubborn effort by merchants brave enough to hire adventurers and cut their way through monster territory. Still, that thin line of trade had turned Dianva into a bustling hub.

Even in the evening, the city remained lively.

Lanterns hung from wooden posts along the streets, their warm glow illuminating merchants closing stalls and travelers finishing late meals. The smell of roasted meat and spiced vegetables drifted from roadside grills while laughter and conversation echoed between buildings.

Inside one of the smaller outdoor eateries, Felix sat across from Mjurran.

Between them sat a simple wooden table and a few plates that had already been half emptied.

Felix held a small piece of roasted meat between his fingers.

The white fox sat beside him on the bench, its fluffy tail curled neatly around its body. Though still weak from everything it had endured, it had recovered enough to stay awake for short periods.

Felix lowered the piece of meat.

The fox carefully took it from his hand.

Mjurran watched the interaction quietly before shaking her head with a small smile.

"You know," she said softly, "most people would simply place food in a bowl."

Felix shrugged.

"She likes it this way."

The fox's ears twitched as it chewed.

"And besides," Felix added, "she's still recovering. Might as well spoil her a little."

Mjurran chuckled faintly.

The moment felt oddly peaceful.

For weeks they had been traveling through forests, monster territories, and unfamiliar towns. Sitting in a normal city and eating dinner almost felt strange.

But peaceful moments rarely lasted long in this world.

A roar shattered the night.

It rolled across the city like distant thunder.

The sound was deep.

Ancient.

Powerful enough that Felix felt it vibrate faintly through the wooden table beneath his hands.

Conversations across the street faltered.

People turned their heads.

"Did you hear that?"

"Monster?"

Felix slowly stood.

Mjurran was already looking toward the forest beyond the city walls.

"That wasn't a normal monster," she said quietly.

The roar came again.

This time slightly louder.

Felix frowned.

"Stay here," he told the fox.

The small creature watched him as he gathered the remaining meat and placed it into a cloth wrap.

They quickly paid for their meal and left the stall.

The city streets had begun to stir uneasily. Guards were already moving along the walls while merchants hurried to close their shops.

Felix glanced toward the distant tree line.

"Let's check it out."

Mjurran nodded.

They moved quickly through the city gate and into the open fields beyond Dianva.

The roar echoed again.

Still distant.

Still enormous.

Felix paused near a small clearing opposite the direction the sound had come from.

"This should be far enough."

He quickly unfolded his tent.

From the outside it looked like a simple bundle of cloth the size of a travel bag. But the moment he set it down and activated it, the interior expanded into a comfortable shelter.

Felix gently placed the white fox inside.

"Stay here," he said.

The fox gave a quiet sound before curling up on the bedding.

Felix sealed the entrance and turned back toward the forest.

"Now," he said, drawing his sword slightly, "let's see what that was."

They ran.

The two of them moved quickly through the forest until they reached a ridge overlooking the deeper trees beyond Dianva.

The roar came again.

This time they could see something.

Far away.

At first it looked like a dark cloud drifting slowly across the sky.

But the cloud moved against the wind.

And as it shifted, the moon vanished behind it.

Mjurran raised her hand.

A faint magic circle formed before her palm.

The spell condensed into a floating lens.

"Reconnaissance magic," she murmured.

Felix leaned closer as the lens focused.

The image sharpened.

And Felix cursed under his breath.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

Far away, moving slowly across the sky like a drifting mountain, was a creature so massive it dwarfed the forest beneath it.

Gigantic wings spread across the night sky.

Its body was covered in layered scales that shimmered faintly beneath the moonlight.

Cold mist trailed behind it.

And around it, the air itself seemed to freeze.

"Why is it coming here?" Felix muttered.

"Isn't it supposed to go to Tempest or something?"

He clenched his jaw.

"The hell can I do about that?"

But the creature continued drifting forward regardless of his complaints.

Charybdis.

Felix knew exactly how dangerous it was.

The monster carried a fragment of the power of the True Dragon Veldora. Even that fragment was enough to make it a disaster-class threat.

"Magic won't work well," Felix said quietly.

Mjurran frowned.

"Yes… it has extremely high resistance."

"And worse," Felix continued, "it carries a mana jamming field."

As if proving the point, the air began to distort as the creature drifted closer.

The closer it came, the heavier the atmosphere felt.

Mjurran tried to gather magic.

The energy flickered.

"…That's not good."

Still, she managed to force the magic through.

Dark wings formed behind her back.

"Hold on."

Felix grabbed her shoulder as she launched them into the sky.

They flew toward the monster.

The distance slowly closed.

But as they approached, the pressure in the air intensified.

The mana around them collapsed.

Mjurran's wings shattered.

The spell died instantly.

Both of them dropped back toward the forest below, landing hard among the trees.

"…Right," Felix muttered. "Mana jamming."

Above them, Charybdis opened its mouth.

Ice blizzards erupted from its jaws.

The frozen winds tore across the forest canopy, freezing branches and ripping leaves from trees.

"This is going to be tough," Mjurran said.

Then another roar answered.

Not from Charybdis.

From the direction of Dianva.

A powerful golden figure burst from the city walls.

Even from this distance Felix could recognize him.

Golden hair.

Massive wings.

A body transforming into a radiant beast.

Carrion.

The Beast King shot across the sky toward the monster.

Felix exhaled in relief.

"Thank god."

He had completely forgotten one crucial detail.

"This is Carrion's territory."

Of course the Beast King would respond.

Carrion's Royal Beast form slammed into Charybdis like a meteor.

His fist struck the creature's head with explosive force.

The impact thundered across the forest.

Scales cracked.

For a brief moment the massive creature tilted slightly in the air.

But then—

The damage vanished.

Ultraspeed Regeneration restored the broken scales instantly.

Carrion attacked again.

Claws tore across the creature's body.

Shockwaves burst through the night sky.

But Charybdis barely reacted.

Its size alone made it almost impossible to overwhelm.

Felix watched the battle above.

"…Yeah."

"That tracks."

Then something dropped from the monster.

Shapes.

Dozens of them.

Winged shark-like creatures that plunged toward the forest below.

Megalodons.

They crashed through the trees.

Felix raised his sword.

"Well."

"Guess that's our job."

Nearby, three more figures entered the battlefield.

The Beastketeers.

Albis, Suphia, and Phobio charged into the forest to intercept the descending monsters.

Felix didn't hesitate.

Battlewill surged through his body.

Hero's Haki wrapped around his blade.

The first Megalodon lunged toward him.

Felix stepped forward.

His sword flashed.

The strike landed perfectly.

The monster collapsed instantly.

Across the battlefield, Albis moved like lightning, slashing through another Megalodon with precise strikes.

Suphia and Phobio fought together against a second one, barely holding it back.

Phobio glanced toward Felix as another Megalodon fell beneath his blade.

"…Hmm."

"So that's Hero Felix the rumors were talking about."

Above the forest canopy, the battle between the Beast King and the flying calamity continued.

Carrion's Royal Beast form streaked through the sky like a living comet, golden wings beating against the cold winds swirling around the massive body of Charybdis. Every movement of the enormous creature stirred violent air currents, freezing mist spreading through the night like a drifting storm.

Carrion struck again.

His fist smashed into Charybdis' scales with explosive force.

The impact echoed through the forest below like distant thunder.

For a moment the scales cracked under the blow.

Then, just as quickly, the damage vanished.

The shattered plates sealed themselves together again as if time had reversed.

Ultraspeed Regeneration.

Carrion clicked his tongue in irritation as he pulled back, circling the enormous monster.

Below them, the battle on the ground was nearly finished.

The forest clearing had turned into a battlefield littered with broken branches and monster corpses. Felix had already cut down three Megalodons, his blade still faintly humming with the lingering aura of Hero's Haki.

Nearby, the final Megalodon thrashed wildly as the Beastketeers surrounded it.

Albis moved first.

Her blade flashed through the air, carving a deep wound across the creature's side. The monster howled, twisting its body violently, but Suphia leapt forward at the same moment, claws digging into its flank to hold it in place.

Phobio followed immediately, slamming his fist into the creature's jaw with a roar.

The monster staggered.

Mjurran raised a hand.

Despite the heavy mana interference spreading from Charybdis, she forced magic to circulate within her body instead of drawing it from the surroundings.

A dark binding spell erupted from the ground.

Shadowy chains wrapped around the Megalodon's wings.

"Now!" she shouted.

Albis' sword pierced straight through the creature's skull.

The final Megalodon collapsed with a heavy thud.

For a moment the battlefield fell quiet.

Felix wiped a smear of blood from his cheek and glanced up toward the sky again.

Carrion was still fighting.

But it wasn't looking good.

The Beast King's attacks were powerful enough to crack Charybdis' scales, yet the monster's regeneration erased the damage almost instantly. Worse still, maintaining his Royal Beast form for this long was clearly draining him.

Felix exhaled slowly.

He could run.

That thought crossed his mind only briefly.

If he left now, he could escape before Charybdis reached the city.

But Dianva wouldn't survive.

Carrion might be strong, but even he couldn't stop a disaster-class monster alone.

And evacuation?

Not a chance.

Charybdis was too close already.

Felix closed his eyes for a moment, steadying his breathing.

Two options.

Run.

Or fight.

"…Well," he muttered under his breath. "If I'm fighting…"

He opened the system.

"…then I might as well gamble properly."

The Gacha interface appeared before his eyes.

Felix tapped the roll button.

---

[Rolling the Gacha: Unfortunately You've gotten:

Secrecy

You are bound not to share your meta-knowledge with others. If you manage to find some way to do so, then they will simply not believe you unless you manage to find some very convincing proof. You can only make them believe them with hard proofs. Also You are free to act upon meta-knowledge. (Simple Isekai CYOA)]

[Quest Triggered: Sell something that is not physical to someone.

Time Limit: 45 Days]

---

Felix stared at the notification for a second.

"…Well that's annoying."

But after reading it again, his expression relaxed slightly.

It wasn't actually that bad.

If anything, the drawback was more of an inconvenience than a disaster. He could still act on what he knew — people just wouldn't believe him without proof.

And if the quest failed…

He could live with it.

"Fine," he muttered.

He rolled again.

[Rolling the Gacha: Unfortunately You've gotten:

Timeline Distortion

Some events of the past may be changed, such as characters having different powers, skills, abilities, age, alignments, factions, loyalty, appearance, gender, morality etc. It will never be enough to completely change the story but always be enough that it may surprise you. Note that it does not change the power level or the power system of the world and while the geography could be altered due to change in past, the total population as well as it's distribution and total landmass will remain unchanged.]

[Quest Trigger failed. Quest Limit (3) reached.

Please complete more quests to raise the quest Limit.]

[Applying Drawback… Adjusting it to current situation.

Changes will be applied now…

Drawback applied successfully.]

---

Felix blinked.

"…What?"

His eyes widened slightly.

"Wh—what?"

"That Random Omnipotent Basterd didn't even tell me there was a limit to the quests!"

He glanced around instinctively.

Nothing looked different.

The forest was still there.

Carrion was still fighting Charybdis above them.

The Beastketeers were catching their breath nearby.

If anything had changed, it wasn't obvious.

But there was no time to think about it.

Charybdis had moved even closer to Dianva.

The monster's enormous shadow now stretched across half the forest.

Felix rubbed the back of his neck.

"Well…"

He sighed.

"I guess I should just run away."

The thought lasted about half a second.

Then he laughed quietly.

"…Yeah. Right."

He pressed the roll button again.

---

---

A strange sensation washed over him.

It felt like something had awakened deep inside his chest.

Memories.

Strength.

Faint echoes of countless battles that weren't his.

For a moment Felix could feel the lingering will of fallen allies, the faint traces of their experience brushing against his mind like distant whispers.

The ability wasn't fully clear yet.

But he understood the essence of it.

Banner of the Supreme King.

A skill that allowed him to draw upon the strength and experience of those who had fought beside him.

Felix blinked.

"…Yeah," he muttered.

"That's not going to help much right now."

Still—

Something else came with the awakening.

A faint connection.

The presence of the people fighting around him.

Carrion.

Mjurran.

The Beastketeers.

Their exhaustion.

Their determination.

He could feel it.

And somehow, that made it harder to even consider running.

Felix shook his head and rolled again.

---

[Rolling the Gacha: Congratulations You've gotten:

Nameless Book of Spells

A tome without end, its pages rewriting themselves as new magic enters existence. It records spells from all sources - Tier Magic, Wild Magic - writing out all information about it like how to learn it and cast it. While actively holding it you can cast any spell recorded within even if you don't satisfy the requirements for them, though your own energies are used. (Overlord CYOA)]

---

A thick book materialized in Felix's hands.

"…Okay," he muttered.

"That's actually pretty good."

The pages flipped rapidly as new knowledge flooded his mind.

Spells.

Hundreds of them.

Thousands.

Tier magic, ancient magic, strange magical systems from entirely different worlds.

Felix skimmed the information rapidly.

The problem appeared immediately.

"There are two ways to use this…"

First option — learn the spells properly.

Which would take months.

Second option — pour mana directly into the book and let it cast the spell.

That was faster.

But still slow.

Felix focused for a moment, sending mana into the book.

The pages shimmered faintly.

"…Right."

He could feel the cost.

Tier 4 spells were easy.

Tier 6 could work after a couple minutes.

Tier 7 would take almost ten minutes to charge.

And against Charybdis?

That probably wouldn't be enough.

Felix grimaced.

"Well… if I'm already this deep…"

He rolled again.

---

[Rolling the Gacha: Congratulations You've gotten:

Raphtalia (Companion)

Raphtalia is a demi-human girl with tanuki-like features, such as fluffy ears and a tail. She has long brown hair and amber eyes, and she wears a red and white dress with a sword at her side. Raphtalia is brave, kind, loyal, and compassionate. She loves to explore new places and learn new things. She is also very skilled in combat, using her sword and magic to protect her friends. Raphtalia is a cheerful and optimistic person who always tries to see the best in others. (Isekai Experience CYOA)]

[You've rolled a Living Being. You may choose to turn them to a native Companion or Summon them directly.

Making them native to the world will result in changes in the past as well as appropriate conditions and may take 15–90 days to meet your companion. However, this will allow them to have their powers be native to this world as well as their knowledge to be from this current world.

Directly Summoning the companion will result in their confusion of a new world, time to adapt as well as natives finding no history of this being. However, direct summoning is immediate.

Note that if you choose native integration, you are advised to not leave your current world until after you've gotten your companion as that will result in unexpected outcomes.

Note: Loyalty of the Companions depends on the CYOA they were drawn from.]

---

Felix blinked.

"…A companion."

For a brief moment he considered it.

Then he shrugged.

"…Native integration sounds better."

He confirmed the choice almost immediately.

"Alright," he muttered. "Next roll."

The Gacha spun again.

---

[Rolling the Gacha: Congratulations You've gotten:

Sealing Magic

The user is able seal objects like living beings, spells, tools and/or weapons, etc. within another object or person and release them when needed. (The Ultimate Isekai Experience)]

---

The moment the reward activated, knowledge exploded into Felix's mind.

Seals.

Complex magical structures.

Binding formulas.

Containment fields.

Hundreds of different sealing techniques flooded into his understanding.

Felix's eyes widened.

And then he slowly looked up toward the sky.

Toward the enormous creature still battling Carrion.

Toward the core hidden deep within its body.

Felix smiled.

"…I can do it."

It wasn't perfect.

It wasn't guaranteed.

But it was better than gambling on another roll and risking another drawback.

Felix tightened his grip on the spellbook.

"I've got a plan."

A/n: Since no one objected, I've put up the Timeline Distortion. If you want any specific changes like changing a certain slimes's gender*wink wink* please do say it. Especially faction change or something like that. That'll definitely be interesting.
