Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Miracle on the Highway

Suho slipped the bracelet into his pocket, his fingers lingering on it for a moment.

There was something strange about it.

He couldn't explain why… but it felt warm. Almost alive.

Shaking off the thought, he turned and started walking back toward the city.

The highway stretched endlessly ahead, filled with rushing cars and distant noise. The sound of engines, horns, and wind blended into a constant hum. Everything felt normal.

Too normal.

Suho adjusted his pace as he approached the road, glancing left and right before stepping forward.

That's when he saw it.

A small child.

Standing in the middle of the highway.

Alone.

Frozen.

For a second, Suho thought his eyes were playing tricks on him.

But no.

The boy was really there—his tiny body trembling, his wide eyes filled with fear.

He had somehow wandered away from his mother and ended up in the most dangerous place possible.

"Hey—!"

Suho's voice came out sharp, but the child didn't move.

He was too scared.

And then—

Suho noticed it.

A car.

Speeding straight toward the boy.

Fast.

Too fast.

Time seemed to slow down.

The world around him blurred, the noise fading into a distant echo. All he could hear now was the loud pounding of his own heartbeat.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

There was no time to think.

No time to hesitate.

Suho ran.

His feet moved before his mind could catch up. He pushed himself forward with everything he had, closing the distance between him and the child in seconds.

The car was getting closer.

Closer.

CLOSER—

At the last possible moment, Suho grabbed the child and jumped.

SCREEECH!

The sound of brakes tore through the air as the car passed dangerously close to them.

For a moment—

Everything went silent.

Suho landed hard on the ground, shielding the child in his arms.

The boy clung to him, shaking.

Then—

"MY CHILD!"

A woman's desperate voice broke the silence.

She came running toward them, her face pale, her breath uneven. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she pulled the boy into her arms, holding him tightly.

"I'm so sorry… I'm so sorry…"

The child started crying, burying his face into her shoulder.

The woman looked up at Suho, her eyes filled with gratitude.

"Thank you… I don't know what I would've done…"

Suho nodded slightly, still catching his breath.

"It's okay."

The woman bowed quickly before taking her child and hurrying away, her grip never loosening.

As they disappeared into the crowd, the noise of the highway slowly returned.

Cars moved again.

People walked past as if nothing had happened.

But for Suho—

Nothing felt the same.

He looked down at his hand.

A deep cut stretched across his palm.

Blood dripped slowly onto the ground.

"…That's bad," he muttered.

The pain was sharp.

Real.

But then—

Something changed.

A faint light flickered around the wound.

Suho froze.

"…What?"

The light grew stronger, soft yet unnatural.

It spread across his skin like something alive.

He stared in disbelief as the cut slowly began to close.

The bleeding stopped.

The torn skin pulled itself back together.

The pain faded… as if it had never existed.

Within seconds—

It was gone.

Completely.

No blood.

No scar.

Nothing.

Suho's breath caught in his throat.

"…This isn't possible."

He turned his hand, clenching and unclenching his fingers.

It felt normal.

Too normal.

As if nothing had ever happened.

A chill ran down his spine.

"What… is going on?"

A strange uneasiness settled in his chest.

His mind raced, trying to make sense of it—but no answer came.

Instead—

Pain hit him.

Suddenly.

Sharp.

Violent.

"Ahh—!"

Suho let out a cry as he grabbed his head.

The world around him spun.

His knees gave out, and he dropped to the ground, clutching his head tightly.

The pain kept increasing.

It felt like something was breaking inside his mind.

And then—

Images.

Flashes.

Blurred… unclear… but real.

Water.

Deep… endless water.

A figure.

A girl.

Her presence felt distant, yet strangely familiar.

Her eyes—

He couldn't see them clearly.

But he felt something.

A connection.

A pull.

"Who…?"

Suho gasped, struggling to breathe as the images flickered in his mind.

The pain was unbearable.

"Stop…!"

He squeezed his eyes shut—

And suddenly—

Everything went dark.

Silence.

Then—

He opened his eyes.

His breathing was heavy, uneven.

The highway was still there.

The noise… the cars… everything normal again.

As if nothing had happened.

But Suho knew.

Something had.

He slowly lowered his hand from his head.

"…What was that?"

His heart was still racing.

That girl…

That memory…

It didn't feel like a dream.

It felt real.

Too real.

Suho looked at his hand again.

Perfectly fine.

No wound.

No scar.

Only one question echoed in his mind—

"Who… was she?"
