Chapter 33 - Chapter 33- fantastic evening

The moonlight cut a sharp, silver diagonal across Raphael's suite. Dafne sat at his feet, her expression vacant but her heart hammering against her ribs—a physical protest her body wasn't allowed to voice.

Raphael leaned forward, his eyes locked onto hers. "Tell me..." he whispered, the command vibrating through the air like a low-frequency hum. "When Leo tries to save you, when he looks at you with that desperate hope... do you want him to succeed? Or do you find his efforts as pathetic as I do?"

Dafne's throat tightened. The "Strings" pulled at her vocal cords, forcing the truth out of the dark corners of her mind where she had tried to hide it.

"I... I want to want him to succeed," she whispered, the words trembling. "But when he speaks, it's just noise. When you speak... the noise stops. I'm afraid of the noise, Raphael. I'm afraid that if he takes me away, I'll have to hear myself again."

Raphael's smile didn't reach his eyes. It was a cold, triumphant thing. He had his answer. He didn't just own her actions; he was becoming her sanctuary from her own identity.

The Return of the TrophyThe Sterling house was ablaze with lights when the Vane limousine pulled into the driveway. Sarah and David were pacing the foyer, while Leo, Maya, and Chloe stood like a firing squad near the door.

When the door opened, Raphael stepped in first, leading Dafne by the hand. She looked immaculate, but there was a new, terrifyingly sharp edge to her obedience. She didn't look like she was being led; she looked like she was an extension of his own shadow.

"Dafne!" Maya cried, rushing forward. She stopped inches away, remembering the "crawling" scream from earlier. "Are you okay? Did he—"

"Dafne, tell them how your evening was," Raphael commanded, not even looking at Maya.

Dafne stepped forward, her voice clear and devoid of its earlier grogginess. "The evening was perfect. Raphael's family was very welcoming. I felt... safe."

"Safe?" Leo spat, stepping into Raphael's personal space. "You've got her drugged or brainwashed, or both. This ends now, Raphael. Get out of this house."

Raphael didn't flinch. He looked past Leo at the Sterlings, who were trembling in the background.

"Is that what you want, David? Sarah?" Raphael asked. He pulled a single sheet of paper from his jacket—a summary of the Henderson files. "Should I leave and take my 'protection' with me? Should I let the board of directors know that your daughter isn't a tragic victim, but a legal liability that you've been hiding for years? Without me, the school will expel her. The state will take her. You'll lose everything."

Sarah Sterling let out a broken sob, covering her mouth with her hand. She looked at Leo, then at the floor. "Leo... please. Just let it be."

", no!" Leo roared.

"Listen closely to me ," Raphael said, his voice dropping to a low, authoritative purr. "I am the only thing standing between Dafne and a padded cell. I am her doctor, her guardian, and her only path to a normal life. You should be thanking me."

The Seal of OwnershipRaphael turned back to Dafne. He reached out, tilting her chin up so she had to look at him in front of everyone—the parents who had failed her, the brother who couldn't save her, and the friends who had made her scream.

He leaned down and pressed a slow, deliberate kiss to the top of her head. It wasn't an act of affection; it was a brand.

"Sleep well, Dafne," he murmured, his voice loud enough for the entire room to hear. "I will be here at 7:30 tomorrow morning to take you to school. You will be ready, waiting at the door, with your bag packed. You will not listen to any 'noise' in the meantime."

"I will be ready, Raphael," Dafne whispered, her eyes fixed on his blazer.

Raphael looked at the group one last time—a victor surveying a conquered territory—and walked out the door.

The silence he left behind was deafening. Dafne remained standing exactly where he had left her, her silver dress shimmering in the hallway light, a perfect, hollow masterpiece waiting for the morning.
