Cherreads

Chapter 9 - 9

As time went on…

Yuri didn't just comment on Jay's mistakes anymore.

He started controlling other things too.

Small things at first.

Things Jay didn't question.

One evening Yuri texted her.

"Wear the black short dress tomorrow."

Jay looked at the message.

She hesitated.

She normally preferred simple clothes.

Loose tops.

Long skirts.

Comfortable things.

But Yuri liked stylish dresses.

So she replied.

"Okay."

The next day she wore the dress.

When she met him outside the café…

Yuri looked at her from head to toe.

Then he smiled.

"Good."

Jay felt relieved.

"You like it?"

Yuri nodded.

"You look nice."

Jay's face brightened.

But a few days later…

Things changed again.

Jay was getting ready to meet Yuri.

She looked at her wardrobe.

Then she picked the same short dress.

Because last time Yuri liked it.

When she reached the café…

Yuri looked at her.

His expression suddenly darkened.

"What are you wearing?"

Jay blinked.

"This dress."

Yuri frowned.

"Why?"

Jay looked confused.

"You told me you liked it."

Yuri shook his head.

"You're going out dressed like this?"

Jay didn't understand.

"What's wrong with it?"

His voice became irritated.

"Do you want everyone staring at you?"

Jay felt embarrassed.

"But you told me to wear it last time."

Yuri scoffed.

"That was when I was there."

Jay stared at him.

He continued angrily.

"Use some common sense."

Jay quickly pulled her jacket tighter around herself.

"I didn't mean anything wrong."

Yuri sighed loudly.

"You always make things difficult."

After that…

Jay became nervous about everything she wore.

If she dressed simply…

Yuri would complain.

"You look boring."

If she dressed nicely…

Yuri would get annoyed.

"Why are you trying to show off?"

Jay never knew what would make him happy.

One afternoon Jay asked carefully,

"What should I wear for the party tonight?"

Yuri looked at his phone.

"I don't care."

Jay nodded and chose a simple dress.

But when he saw her later…

He frowned again.

"You could've dressed better."

Jay felt helpless.

"You said you didn't care."

Yuri rolled his eyes.

"You still need to think."

Slowly…

Jay stopped feeling confident about herself.

Every decision felt wrong.

Every choice felt like a mistake.

And no matter what she did…

Yuri always found something to criticize.

One night Jay stood in front of her mirror.

Looking at her reflection.

She tried three different outfits.

Then four.

Then five.

But none of them felt right.

Her hands slowly dropped to her sides.

She whispered softly to herself,

"What am I doing wrong?"

For the first time…

Jay didn't feel like herself anymore.

She felt like someone trying to become the person Yuri wanted.

And deep inside…

She was slowly disappearing. 💔
