Cherreads

Chapter 17 - The Horizon of Tomorrow (Epilogue)

The grand auditorium of St. Jude's was a sea of navy-blue graduation gowns and tossing tassels. The air was thick with the scent of lilies and the nervous energy of hundreds of students standing on the edge of adulthood.

Nancy adjusted her cap in the hallway mirror, her fingers brushing the silver chain. She didn't wear the blue marble around her neck anymore; it was safely tucked into a velvet box on her dresser at home—a relic of a childhood successfully reclaimed.

"You're going to trip if you keep staring at your feet," a deep, familiar voice teased.

Nancy turned to see Lucifer. In his graduation gown, he looked less like the "Ice King" and more like the man he was becoming—strong, steady, and finally at peace. He wasn't hiding in the shadows today. He was standing right in the center of the sunlight.

"I'm not staring at my feet," Nancy laughed, reaching out to straighten his collar. "I'm just thinking about how Classroom 12 feels so small now."

"It served its purpose," Lucifer said, his gaze softening as he looked at her. "It brought the Architect and the Builder back to the same table."

As the ceremony began and names were called, the whispers from months ago were gone, replaced by genuine cheers. When Lucifer's name was announced, he walked across the stage with a quiet dignity that silenced any remaining skeptics. He wasn't the "monster from New York" anymore. He was the valedictorian who had turned his scars into strength.

After the ceremony, amidst the chaos of throwing caps and crying parents, the two of them found a quiet corner near the school gates.

"So," Nancy said, looking at the two acceptance letters they both carried in their bags—both for the same university in the city. "New York or India, it doesn't matter where we go next, right?"

Lucifer looked at the horizon, then back at the girl who had waited fifteen years for him to find his way home. He reached out, his hand finding hers and squeezing it tight.

"As long as we're building something together," Lucifer promised, "the location doesn't matter. The foundation is already set."

They walked out of the school gates for the last time, not as familiar strangers, but as two people ready to build a kingdom that no tide could ever wash away.
