Chapter 119 - Aftermath

Days passed without incident.

The Unseen remained absent—not hiding, not waiting, just... absent. Gone in a way that felt different from before.

"It's thinking," Maya insisted. "Processing. It's never had to do that before."

"Can something that old really change?" Kim wondered.

"Anything can change if it chooses to."

The community returned to normal rhythms, but everything felt different. Lighter. Like a weight had lifted.

Glad found herself in Anino Garden more often, reflecting.

"You would have loved Maya, Dad. She's everything I hoped the next generation would be. Braver than me. Wiser than me. More willing to talk instead of fight."

A breeze stirred.

"I think I finally understand what you were doing all those years. Not just protecting—waiting. Letting me grow at my own pace. Trusting I'd figure it out."

The breeze warmed.

"Thanks, Dad. For everything."

She sat until sunset, at peace.

Whatever came next, she was ready.

They all were.
