Chapter 7 - New day at the academy [REWRITE].

The morning sky was bright, birds chirping among the tall towers. Kael descended the tower stairs with light steps. His sword hung on his back, the Chrono Halo glowing softly, as if greeting the world. His heartbeat was stable, like a calming background music, not an alarm of danger.

In the training hall, several students had already gathered. They looked at Kael with a mixture of curiosity and slight unease. Darius, as usual, sat on a wooden bench with his arms crossed, his eyes sharp as he evaluated every movement.

"Kael," one student called, "you… look different today."

Kael smiled lightly.

"Maybe I just slept better."

But his eyes remained alert, observing everyone around him.

Maren appeared at the hall entrance, carrying a training bag. Her eyes met Kael's, and a faint smile appeared on her face. They didn't need to speak. With just one glance, both of them already understood that the bond was still there—calm, simple, but strong.

Not long after, Aether entered the hall carrying a scroll.

"Today we will begin with synchronization training," he said.

"No tricks. No special techniques. Just… aligning yourself with time. Remember, don't force yourself. Let your body find its rhythm."

Kael slowly drew his sword.

The light of the Chrono Halo glowed softly at the tip of his blade, dancing lightly in the air. He began to move slowly. Every swing of the sword seemed to draw a fine line in the air. Every step followed the beat of his own heart.

Some students looked at him in amazement. Some tried to imitate, but their movements were too fast. Their swords cut through the air hastily, losing balance.

Kael only smiled faintly.

"Look at that," Aether said while standing near him.

"You are no longer rushing. You are beginning to understand your own time."

Kael let out a slow breath.

"It feels… lighter. I'm no longer trying to control everything. I'm just… following its flow."

Darius snorted from his bench.

"Hmph… maybe you're starting to understand a little about discipline."

His tone remained harsh, but there was something different—he no longer sounded dismissive.

At the corner of the hall, Maren sat while writing small notes. Occasionally she looked at Kael, then smiled faintly.

The training continued.

Kael's movements became slightly faster. His steps were light, his swings precise. His heartbeat felt like a rhythm guiding every movement.

Then a student stood from the crowd.

"Let's have a quick duel, Kael."

The hall grew slightly quiet.

Kael looked at him for a moment, then nodded.

"Alright."

They stood facing each other.

The student raised his sword.

"Ready?"

Kael adjusted his footing.

"Ready."

The first attack came fast.

The student stepped forward sharply and swung his sword toward Kael's shoulder. Kael shifted his body, dodging with a smooth movement.

Clang!

Their blades touched briefly before separating.

Kael tried to counter with a low swing, but his opponent stepped back quickly.

The student smiled faintly.

"Not bad."

The next attack came faster.

Kael managed to read the first two attacks. He blocked one, avoided the second.

But on the third attack—

His opponent's movement suddenly changed.

His step turned, his sword came down from an unexpected angle.

Kael was half a second too late.

Clang!

His sword was struck hard from the side.

His hand trembled.

Before he could recover his position—

The tip of his opponent's sword had already stopped right in front of his neck.

The hall immediately fell silent.

Kael froze for a moment.

Then he slowly lowered his sword.

"…I lost," he said honestly.

The student immediately lowered his sword as well.

There was no mocking smile on his face. Only heavy breathing and an expression of respect.

"You're still weak, but."

"You almost read my movement," he said.

"If your reaction was a little faster, the result might have been different."

He then extended his hand.

"Good duel, Kael."

Kael looked at his hand for a moment, then accepted it.

"You are very strong," Kael replied.

The student nodded.

From afar, a faint voice was heard.

"I didn't expect it," he said, "the one who was once called the academy's burden could develop this far."

Some other students nodded in agreement.

Aether smiled faintly from the edge of the hall.

"That is the essence of synchronization," he said.

"Not about always winning. But about understanding your rhythm… even when you lose."

Darius let out a breath from his bench.

"Hmmm… at least you didn't fall carelessly."

But this time, his voice sounded like acknowledgment.

After the training ended, the students sat on the floor to rest.

Kael sat beside Maren.

"Today… feels different," he said.

Maren looked at him.

"Because you lost?"

Kael smiled slightly.

"Maybe."

He looked at his own hand.

"But strangely… I don't feel bad. I actually feel like… I learned something."

Maren laughed softly.

"That's called growth, Kael."

Kael looked at the sky through the hall window.

Tick….

Tick….

Tick….

The beat was still there.

But now it did not feel like an alarm.

Instead, it felt like a soft song guiding his steps.

For the first time after a long time, Kael felt ready to face the world not as someone who must always win, but as someone who keeps learning to move along with his time.

And on his back, the Chrono Halo glowed softly.

As if it knew…

that peaceful days like this would not last forever.
