Chapter 1 - The weight of the family name.

Julian stood behind the heavy wooden doors of the auditorium, adjusting the cuff of his blazer for the third time.

The murmurs of hundreds of students drifted through the door like waves. The annual welcome ceremony had always been important, but this year it felt heavier.

Because this year, Julian Ardent wasn't just another student.

He was the Head of the Student Union.

And everyone expected perfection.

He inhaled slowly, fixing the calm expression he had practiced for years. The Ardent family had a reputation in the state—politics, businesses, charity foundations. His father liked to say that their name carried weight.

Julian had grown up learning exactly what

that meant.

No mistakes.

No scandals.

No weakness.

Especially not the kind his father despised.

The door opened slightly and a student union member peeked in.

"Julian, it's time."

Julian nodded once and stepped forward.

The bright stage lights hit him instantly as he walked to the podium. For a brief moment, the crowd quieted, then whispers spread like wildfire.

Everyone knew Julian.

Top grades.

Perfect posture.

Sharp jawline that somehow made half the campus stare.

The kind of student universities loved to brag about.

Julian placed his speech on the podium, scanning the crowd. Rows of students stared back—freshmen nervous and curious, seniors relaxed.

This was his territory.

He cleared his throat.

"Good morning, everyone."

His voice carried easily through the microphone, steady and controlled.

"Welcome to the beginning of a new academic year. For many of you, this university will become more than just a place to study."

He paused briefly.

"It will become a place where you discover who you are."

The words sounded right. Inspiring. Exactly what the faculty expected.

Exactly what his father would approve of.

But for a strange moment, Julian wondered what it actually meant.

Discover who you are.

His father had never believed in that idea.

"You don't discover who you are," he once said during a dinner that Julian could never forget.

"You become what your family requires."

Julian continued the speech smoothly, every word memorized, every gesture practiced. Applause filled the hall when he finished.

Perfect.

As always.

But while leaving the stage, his eyes drifted toward the back row of the auditorium.

Someone unfamiliar sat there maybe a freshman,he looked like one.

A boy leaning lazily against his chair, sleeves rolled up, looking completely uninterested in the ceremony.

While everyone else clapped politely, the boy only watched Julian with a strange calm expression like he pitied him.He looke at him has he walked off the podium.
