Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 — When the Sunshine Learns Fire

Morning at the coastal safehouse arrived slowly.

The ocean stretched endlessly outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, waves rolling against the cliffs in a calm rhythm that felt worlds away from the violence of the city.

For the first time in days, the house felt peaceful.

Too peaceful.

Hoseok slept in the center of the massive living room couch, wrapped in blankets like a burrito. One of Jungkook's hoodies hung loosely over his shoulders, and the stuffed tiger was tucked under his chin.

His thumb rested against his lips as he slept.

Little space again.

The attack had shaken him deeply.

And none of the six men surrounding him had the heart to pull him out of it yet.

Jungkook sat on the floor beside the couch, his back against it while Hoseok's fingers tangled loosely in his hair.

Namjoon stood by the windows, speaking quietly into his phone.

"Yes… tighten security on every warehouse."

Pause.

"No mistakes."

His voice turned cold.

"If Black Lotus shows their faces again, eliminate them."

Across the room, Yoongi leaned lazily against the kitchen counter sipping coffee.

"Council wants blood."

Namjoon ended the call.

"They're going to get it."

Jimin, curled on the other couch, glanced toward Hoseok.

"Just not here."

Taehyung nodded slowly.

"He deserves peace."

For a moment they all watched Hoseok sleep.

Their soft, bright dancer.

The only person capable of making six mafia leaders gentle.

Jin spoke quietly.

"We can't keep him in the dark forever."

Yoongi hummed in agreement.

"He already saw enough."

Jungkook's voice was low.

"They shot at him."

The room fell silent.

Namjoon finally turned from the window.

"That's exactly why things have to change."

Hoseok woke slowly.

The first thing he felt was warm fingers brushing through his hair.

He hummed softly.

"Mmm…"

Jimin smiled down at him.

"Morning, sunshine."

Hoseok blinked sleepily.

His mind still floated in the soft fog of regression.

"Chim…"

Jimin booped his nose.

"You slept for twelve hours."

Hoseok stretched lazily.

Then noticed the ocean outside the windows.

His eyes widened instantly.

"Beach?!"

Taehyung laughed.

"Yep."

Hoseok sat up so fast the blankets fell everywhere.

"Beach beach beach!"

Jungkook caught him before he could run.

"Slow down."

Hoseok pouted slightly.

"Want sand."

Jin smirked.

"You're still in pajamas."

Hoseok looked down at the oversized hoodie and fuzzy socks.

"…oh."

Everyone chuckled.

For a few minutes the house filled with warmth again.

Breakfast.

Laughing.

Hoseok excitedly staring out the windows.

The storm from the city felt far away.

But danger doesn't stay quiet forever.

Late afternoon.

Hoseok danced on the private beach behind the safehouse.

Bare feet in the sand.

Music playing softly from his phone.

He spun in circles, arms stretched toward the ocean breeze.

Free.

Taehyung sat on the porch steps watching him with a small smile.

Jungkook leaned against the railing.

"You think he knows?"

Taehyung shook his head.

"No."

Hoseok laughed as a wave splashed his feet.

"Cold!"

Jimin stepped outside with drinks.

"You're going to catch a cold."

Hoseok ignored him and kept dancing.

The wind carried his laughter across the water.

And then—

A distant engine sound cut through the air.

Jungkook's head snapped toward the horizon.

A speedboat.

Coming fast.

Too fast.

Taehyung's expression darkened instantly.

"That's not ours."

Jimin's smile vanished.

"Inside. Now."

Hoseok blinked.

"What?"

The boat roared closer.

Three men stood on the deck.

Weapons raised.

Gunshots exploded across the beach.

Sand sprayed everywhere.

Hoseok screamed.

His mind shattered instantly.

Regression slammed into him like a tidal wave.

He dropped to the ground, covering his ears.

"LOUD LOUD!"

Jungkook sprinted forward.

"Hoseok!"

He scooped him up as another bullet tore through the sand behind them.

Taehyung pulled his gun from under his jacket.

"INSIDE!"

More gunshots rang out.

Yoongi appeared at the balcony above with a rifle.

His shot cracked through the air.

One of the attackers collapsed instantly.

Namjoon's voice thundered through the comms.

"DEFENSIVE POSITIONS."

Jungkook carried Hoseok toward the house while the dancer clung to him, sobbing.

"Koo! Koo! Scared!"

Jungkook's heart twisted painfully.

"I know."

Behind them the firefight exploded.

Taehyung fired twice.

Another enemy dropped.

The boat tried to turn.

Too late.

Yoongi's next bullet blew the engine apart.

Flames erupted across the water.

The final attacker tried to jump overboard.

Jimin shot him before he hit the ocean.

Silence returned to the beach.

Only waves remained.

Inside the safehouse, Hoseok trembled uncontrollably in Jungkook's arms.

Tiny.

Broken.

His voice was barely audible.

"Bad men…"

Jungkook rocked him gently.

"They're gone."

Hoseok shook his head.

"Come back…"

Namjoon entered the room slowly.

His face was calm but his eyes were dangerous.

"They tried to take him."

Yoongi wiped blood from his sleeve.

"They underestimated us."

Jin crossed his arms.

"This is escalating."

Hoseok sniffled softly.

Then suddenly spoke.

"…teach me."

The room froze.

Jungkook blinked.

"What?"

Hoseok slowly pulled away.

His eyes were watery but determined.

"I… don't want… be weak…"

Jimin knelt beside him.

"You're not weak."

Hoseok shook his head.

"I scream… cry…"

Taehyung crouched in front of him.

"You were scared."

Hoseok looked down at his shaking hands.

"Want learn."

Namjoon studied him carefully.

"You mean defend yourself?"

Hoseok nodded.

"Just little."

The six men exchanged glances.

Finally Yoongi sighed.

"Well."

He pushed himself off the wall.

"Guess sunshine wants combat training."

Jungkook frowned slightly.

"He's still fragile."

Namjoon placed a hand on Hoseok's shoulder.

"We'll go slow."

Hoseok nodded.

"Okay."

And for the first time since the war began…

The sunshine who once hid from gunshots decided he would learn to stand in the storm.

Training started the next morning.

The private gym behind the safehouse had been converted into a combat space.

Hoseok stood nervously in the middle of the mat.

Oversized training clothes.

Messy hair.

Determined eyes.

Jungkook stood in front of him.

"We're starting simple."

Hoseok nodded seriously.

"Okay."

Jungkook held out his hands.

"Try pushing me."

Hoseok blinked.

"Push?"

"Yes."

Hoseok pushed his chest lightly.

Jungkook didn't move.

Hoseok frowned.

"Again."

This time Hoseok pushed harder.

Still nothing.

Yoongi chuckled from the wall.

"You're fighting a tank."

Hoseok pouted.

Jungkook crouched slightly.

"Use your legs."

Hoseok tried again.

Push.

Jungkook stepped back deliberately.

Hoseok gasped.

"I did it!"

Everyone laughed.

Jimin clapped dramatically.

"Progress!"

Training continued slowly.

Balance.

Basic defense.

How to run.

How to hide.

Hoseok struggled often.

Sometimes he regressed mid-training.

Sometimes he got frustrated.

But every time he fell…

Six hands lifted him back up.

By the end of the week, Hoseok collapsed on the mat laughing.

"Tired!"

Taehyung flopped beside him.

"Same."

Jungkook offered him water.

"You did good."

Hoseok beamed proudly.

"Strong?"

Yoongi smirked.

"Tiny strong."

Hoseok giggled.

For the first time since the war started…

Hope returned to the safehouse.

That night the seven of them sat on the balcony watching the ocean.

Hoseok leaned against Jungkook while Taehyung braided his hair.

Jimin rested his head on Hoseok's shoulder.

Namjoon looked out toward the dark sea.

"They'll come again."

Yoongi nodded.

"But next time…"

Jungkook finished the sentence quietly.

"…we'll be ready."

Hoseok squeezed his hand.

"Together."

Six voices answered softly.

"Together."

The war wasn't over.

But their sunshine was no longer just someone to protect.

He was someone growing stronger.

And anyone who threatened him would soon learn—

The softest heart in the room could still carry fire.
