Chapter 5 - Blood and Silence

Novel: Love in New Zealand

Location: A secluded private beach, Auckland

The Roar of Waves and a Dangerous Pull

The waves of the Pacific shimmered under the moonlight like sheets of liquid silver.

Aira stepped out of the car and walked across the damp sand. Her high heels sank with every step, so she slipped them off and carried them in her hand. The cold sand brushed against her bare feet.

Neeraj followed a few steps behind. His heartbeat drummed loudly in his chest.

"Are you afraid?" Aira turned suddenly. Moonlight sharpened the elegant lines of her face.

Neeraj stepped closer until only inches separated them.

"There's a very thin line between fear and desire, Aira," he said quietly. "Tonight… you erased it."

A playful smile touched her lips. Her fingers brushed slowly across the buttons of his coat before she pulled him closer.

"Then why not cross that line completely?"

In the next moment, Aira slid her arms behind Neeraj's neck and pulled him down.

Their lips met.

The kiss wasn't gentle. It was sudden, hungry—like a predator finally claiming its prey.

Neeraj wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her tightly against him. The force of the movement pressed her soft body firmly against his broad chest. He could feel the rapid rhythm of her heartbeat through both their bodies.

Her warmth spread through him like molten lava in the freezing New Zealand night.

A faint sound escaped her lips, barely audible beneath the crashing waves.

Neeraj held her even tighter, as if confirming this moment wasn't a dream. Her body moved against his with a natural, electric closeness that filled the air with a tension neither of them could ignore.

For a brief moment, the world disappeared.

Only the sea remained.

And them.

The Sudden Threat

They had barely emerged from that intoxicating haze when bright headlights cut through the darkness.

The Aston Martin's beams illuminated three masked figures standing on the sand.

Each carried a weapon—knives glinting under the moonlight and a heavy iron rod.

Aira slowly stepped away from Neeraj, though the spark in her eyes remained.

"Looks like our guests have arrived," she said calmly.

"Let's see if you can protect me."

Neeraj removed his coat and tossed it onto the sand. His white shirt clung slightly to his skin, damp with sweat and the lingering scent of Aira's perfume.

The quiet Indian boy he once was had vanished.

In his place stood someone else—someone ready to fight.

The first attacker lunged forward, slashing with his knife.

Neeraj moved instantly. He grabbed the man's wrist and twisted it sharply.

A sickening crack echoed through the silent beach.

But the second attacker seized the moment. His blade sliced across Neeraj's shoulder.

A deep cut.

Red stains spread across the white fabric of his shirt.

Aira leaned casually against a rock, watching the fight unfold. Her breathing was still slightly uneven.

Neeraj didn't react to the pain.

Instead, he seized the second attacker by the head and slammed it violently against the nearby rock.

The man collapsed instantly.

Within seconds, the third attacker followed.

Then silence returned to the beach.

Only the waves continued their endless roar.

Victory and the Final Touch

When the three men lay unconscious in the sand, Neeraj turned toward Aira.

His hands were smeared with blood. Dust marked his face. His chest rose and fell heavily.

But the fire in his eyes remained the same one that had burned during their kiss.

Aira walked toward him slowly.

She took out a soft velvet handkerchief and gently pressed it against the wound on his shoulder, wiping away the blood.

Her fingers traced the edges of the injury.

"Does it hurt?" she whispered.

Neeraj pulled her close again.

"Not compared to the fire in your eyes."

This time the kiss tasted different.

There was salt from the sea.

The faint metallic trace of blood.

And the intoxicating rush of victory.

In that moment, Neeraj realized something deep within himself—

Tonight, he had made a bargain.

Not with Aira.

But with his own soul.
