Chapter 1 - The Boy Who Dreamed To Become A Pope

A Small Beginning

In the quiet coastal city of Legazpi, where the Mayon Volcano stood proudly against the sky and church bells echoed through narrow streets, there lived a boy named Thomas.

Thomas was not the loudest boy in school. He was not the fastest runner or the best singer. But he had something rare — a quiet, burning dream.

He wanted to become Pope.

Not for power. Not for fame. But to serve.

His mother, Olivia, was gentle and deeply faithful. Her hands were worn from years of sacrifice, but her heart never grew tired of loving.

"Greatness," she would tell him softly, "is not about standing above others. It is about lifting others up."

His father, Alvin, was a quiet and hardworking fisherman. Every night, he led the rosary at home.

Their spiritual home was the beloved Our Lady of Peñafrancia Shrine, where their parish priest, Father Felipe, guided the faithful with wisdom and kindness.

The Shrine of Our Lady

Thomas grew up serving at the shrine, especially during the grand Peñafrancia Festival. Thousands of devotees would gather, candles glowing like stars, singing hymns to Ina.

It was there that his dream deepened.

One afternoon after Mass, Thomas asked quietly,

"Father Felipe, do you think someone like me could ever become Pope?"

Father Felipe knelt and smiled gently.

"If God plants a dream in your heart," he said, "it is never by accident. But remember — the Pope is first a servant."

Thomas carried those words with him.

He served with his friend Lucas, helped elderly Maria Clara, and studied beside Daniel, who struggled in school. Leadership, he learned, begins in kindness.

The Seminary Years

At eighteen, Thomas entered the seminary in Manila.

He missed home deeply — his mother's cooking, his father's steady presence, the sound of hymns at the shrine.

But letters from home gave him strength.

"Stay humble. Stay faithful," Alvin wrote.

"Holiness grows in hidden sacrifices," Father Felipe reminded him.

Thomas formed close friendships with Brother Rafael and Brother Antonio. Through years of study, prayer, and sacrifice, he was ordained a priest.

Olivia wept with joy.Alvin stood proudly, eyes shining.Father Felipe embraced him like a son.

A Shepherd's Path

Father Thomas became known for compassion. He visited prisoners, comforted the sick, and walked through villages after typhoons.

He never chased positions, yet he was appointed Bishop, then Archbishop, and eventually Cardinal.

When the letter from Rome arrived, Alvin whispered,

"No matter what title you carry, you are still my son."

Father Felipe added,

"White robes mean nothing without a servant's heart."

The Conclave

Years later, after the passing of a beloved Pope, the cardinals gathered in Rome.

Inside the Sistine Chapel, Thomas prayed deeply.

He thought of Olivia. He thought of Alvin. He thought of Father Felipe. He thought of the shrine where he first whispered his dream.

When the final vote was counted, the question came:

"Do you accept your election as Supreme Pontiff?"

Tears filled his eyes.

"With trust in God's mercy… I accept."

"And by what name shall you be called?"

Thomas paused, remembering the great shepherds who carried the name Benedict — men known for wisdom, faith, and devotion.

He answered clearly:

"I will be called Pope Benedict XVII."

Habemus Papam

White smoke rose into the Roman sky.

The bells of St. Peter's rang loudly.

When he stepped onto the balcony dressed in white, he remembered the small boy serving at the shrine of Ina.

"Brothers and sisters," he began softly, "let us walk together in humility, mercy, and love."

In Naga, Olivia knelt in gratitude.Alvin bowed his head in silent prayer.Father Felipe smiled, knowing that the dream born at the feet of Our Lady had become a mission for the world.

And Thomas — now Pope Benedict XVII
