Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 Going Home

Chapter 49 Going Home

Yara looked at Dicttis's worried expression.

I couldn't help but chuckle.

A smile played on his lips as he offered words of comfort:

"Don't worry about me, my friend."

"This is a side effect of fighting Ares..."

"I will return to God's embrace in ten years..."

"What do you have to worry about for me?"

Seeing Yara's relieved expression, Dicttis felt very uncomfortable.

It seemed as if a deep sense of emotion and guilt was welling up within him.

Tears welled up in his eyes...

How could he not tell that this was a lie fabricated by Yara?

What do you mean by returning to God's embrace... isn't that just dying?

And Yara, the man who once stood in the light and invited him to embark on a great adventure.

To crown myself with this glorious crown...

But he only had ten years left to live...

For myself.

How much suffering did he endure? How much blood did he shed?

How could Dixtis not be moved?

With a thud.

Dicttis, dressed in royal robes and wearing a crown, knelt before Yara.

Tears welled in his eyes, and he choked out:

"Brother...my brother..."

How could I be so demanding of you?

"Yes...you've already given enough..."

"That's enough..."

...

Old Tyr also refused Dick's request.

He planned to go to Canaan with Yara.

When Dick tried to persuade him to stay, this is how he explained it:

"I'm old, and I have no children..."

"I haven't received any professional training... Aside from swordsmanship, most of my so-called knowledge comes from trial and error, and from complaining and cursing..."

"Incompetent enough to serve as prime minister of a country..."

"For the rest of my life, I just want to find a place to retire..."

"And the Messiah's homeland, Canaan, I have seen it, it is a good place."

"For me, it might be a good ending."

Although Dick was extremely reluctant, he could only respect his friend's wishes. He sighed and said:

"Alright, Master Tyr…"

"After you leave, I'll be all alone here..."

Upon hearing this, Pan paused, scratched his head, and pondered for a long time, but couldn't figure out what the problem was.

Dick stepped forward, looked at old Tyr and Yara, and said:

"Let me see you off one last time..."

...

Late autumn has passed.

Early winter is approaching.

It's that time of year again when we say goodbye.

Some evergreen plants had their leaves covered with a layer of frost-like ice crystals... giving them a sense of desolation from a distance.

The muddy ground that was damp in autumn has now become brittle and hard, covered with a thin layer of frost, and makes a crisp sound of ice crystals breaking when a cart ruts over it.

Although Dick cannot yet fully control the entire city of Argos,

However, there were always some officials who wanted to advance and were willing to follow the new king's orders... They quickly equipped themselves with enough manpower, horses, and carriages.

At dawn on the second day, just as the sun rose,

Several luxurious carriages, accompanied by escorting guards, emerged from the gates of Argos and headed west...

Due to his numerous affairs, Dicktis was unable to personally escort Yara and the others to Canaan. A round trip would take at least a month, and with Argos in dire need of reconstruction, Dicktis could not remain absent for too long...

So Dicttis and Pan could only stand atop the city wall, gazing into the distance, watching the caravan slowly depart and disappear into the distance...

For some reason, Dicttis felt a strange emptiness inside...

This is the feeling of parting with friends...

Like the brief mental stagnation that follows the end of the story.

A faint, melancholic sense of loneliness spread through Dick's heart.

Pan looked at the departing convoy and sighed, saying:

"I don't know when I'll be able to see them again after this separation."

"I still owe old Tyr a drink..."

Dick looked at the dejected Pan beside him. He knew that if he wanted to establish himself in this city, the only person he could truly trust was this simpleton standing beside him...

He patted Pan on the shoulder and said:

"Once this period passes and things calm down in the city..."

"Let us go to Canaan and drink with Arah and the others."

Pan's eyes lit up, and he said:

"That's a deal."

"Of course, I am the king now. My word is my bond."

Dicttis's red cloak billowed in the wind as he ignored the sycophantic nobles and wealthy merchants behind him...

He chatted and laughed with Pan.

What Dick didn't know was...

A guard who had just been reinstated stared blankly at his retreating figure.

The image of the filthy beggar in his memory gradually overlapped with the king in the wind before him, and suddenly it felt as if his heart had been gripped, and a feeling of horror exploded within him...

His mouth dropped open in disbelief:

"By the gods..."

"So... he was the new king of Argos."

...

The convoy drove through mountains and rivers, where the vegetation along the way was withered, and as time went by, the weather grew colder and colder, and the frost covering the forests grew thicker and thicker...

Finally, the cold reached its peak, and everyone fell asleep leaning against the carriage. When they awoke the next day, they found that overnight, snow had covered the grass, trees, and mountains...

The journey wasn't far, taking about half a month.

Yara then crossed through the snow and jungle and returned to the fertile land of Canaan, which was surrounded by three mountains.

To Yara's surprise, in other areas, the vegetation had almost completely withered and died, and most of the animals had dug burrows and hibernated...

But Canaan alone seems to still possess a vibrant life and vitality.

The grass and trees, crowned with snow, stretched out their branches and leaves. Antelopes and moose trudged through the snow to drink from the flowing river. Berries and grapevines, even in winter, had already borne abundant fruit...

This phenomenon, which almost defies biological rhythms, left everyone bewildered...

Even the well-traveled old Tyr couldn't help but exclaim in amazement:

"My goodness, I've never seen a tree bear fruit in winter..."

The guards escorted the convoy into the wilderness.

The wilderness was now covered in snow.

However, beneath the white snow was not a barren ground... but lush green grass. Those vibrant green blades of grass stubbornly pushed their way out of the snow, as if possessing a tenacious vitality...

Wisps of smoke rose from the distant village, its rooftops covered in snow...

Vaguely, Yara could see people coming and going on the road, clearing the snow from the streets—a lively and heartwarming scene...

Upon seeing the village that often appeared in her dreams, and the villagers living in peace and contentment... Yara's heart was filled with anticipation and longing.

Last time he passed through Canaan, he lingered too long, too worried about his wife; he only glanced at it briefly before hurrying on to Argos...

This time, however, it was completely different. He had resolved all the troubles... and returned to Canaan laden with honor and hope, thus his mindset was entirely different...

As I watched the wisps of smoke rising from the distant village.

Yara felt a sudden pang of sadness.

He gently woke his wife, who was fast asleep in the carriage, and quickly pointed to the village in the distance covered in snow, saying:

"We're home, Sarah..."

"We're
