Chapter 5 - From Today On, I Am a Positive-Justice Detective

[System Notification]

Initial mission completed.

Mission rewards have been issued.

Detective Agency Interface is now unlocked.

Please review it at your convenience.

There was no special occasion and no grand ceremony.

No flowers, no honored guests. In fact, the residents living in the neighboring apartments probably didn't even realize that a new detective agency had quietly appeared in their building.

The moment was so simple that Jiang Hang merely looked at the fully renovated office early that morning and casually muttered, "I guess this counts as officially opening."

At that exact moment, the system marked the initial mission as completed.

The custom signboard reading "Precursor Detective Agency" hadn't even been hung outside yet.

But this kind of low-key opening suited Jiang Hang perfectly.

He disliked complicated formalities.

After setting aside the flyers he had prepared for later distribution, Jiang Hang began checking the mission rewards and the functions of the newly unlocked Detective Agency Interface.

The skill Meditation required little explanation.

In the game it originated from, the ability allowed players to change the time of day—meditate once during the day and it instantly became night; meditate again and it turned back into day.

In reality, however, the effect was slightly different.

Meditation allowed Jiang Hang to enter a restful state more quickly and recover stamina and mental energy faster during sleep. With long-term practice, it could even provide a slight improvement to physical fitness.

It wasn't particularly powerful.

Still, as a foundational skill, it was decent enough.

Over the past week, Jiang Hang had wandered around Tokyo every night completing exploration objectives.

As a result, he finally finished the first stage of two exploration missions, gaining a small physical attribute enhancement and mastering Assassin Steps, a technique that allowed him to move almost silently while walking.

The most noticeable change, however, was the gradual awakening of the Assassin bloodline within his body.

Thanks to consistent daily training, Jiang Hang could now complete his exercise routine without feeling like he was about to die halfway through.

Next, he focused his attention on the Detective Agency Interface.

At first glance, it was obvious that the system had taken the Assassin's Creed villa management system and heavily modified it.

Currently, Jiang Hang's detective agency was at the lowest possible level.

To upgrade it, he would need to solve cases and accumulate reputation.

Reputation was easy to understand.

The more cases Jiang Hang solved—and the more important they were—the greater the fame of his detective agency would become.

As for the agency's functionality, it was surprisingly straightforward.

The core feature was a notice board that displayed requests for help from residents within a one-kilometer radius of the agency.

Whether Jiang Hang chose to accept those requests—or how he solved them—was entirely up to him.

As the agency level increased, the detection range would expand.

Perhaps after dozens of upgrades, Jiang Hang could sit inside his office and immediately know if any major case occurred anywhere in Japan.

The requests on the notice board were sorted from highest rating to lowest according to the system's evaluation.

Right now, the top request was a five-star commission.

Jiang Hang read it carefully.

Commission:

Ran Mouri has a childhood friend named Shinichi Kudo. However, since they parted ways at an amusement park one week ago, she has not seen him again. She is extremely worried about his safety. Please help her find Shinichi Kudo's whereabouts.

Jiang Hang glanced at the reputation reward attached to the commission.

Completing this task alone would probably raise his Level 1 rookie detective agency by one or even two levels.

To be honest, the task itself was actually quite simple.

After all, Shinichi Kudo had already become Conan Edogawa.

Conan had always believed that revealing his identity to Ran Mouri would place her in danger.

But thinking about it carefully, Jiang Hang found that logic somewhat questionable.

Over the course of the story, countless undercover agents from the Black Organization had already appeared, and several of them had even deduced Conan's true identity.

Meanwhile, the only people still completely clueless were poor Gin and his nameless subordinate.

Whether Conan hid his identity or not seemed to have little real effect on Ran's safety.

Still, Jiang Hang decided not to rush this matter.

He would deal with it later—after becoming somewhat familiar with Conan.

Next, Jiang Hang checked the rest of the requests on the notice board.

As expected, most of them were trivial daily problems.

Someone had forgotten their wallet when leaving the house.

Someone else had misplaced their keys.

There was even a commission from a screenwriter suffering from writer's block who hoped someone could help him find inspiration before his deadline arrived.

Oddly enough, there were no missing cat or dog cases, which Jiang Hang had originally expected.

Apparently, most people's lives were fairly normal.

Only the walking disaster known as Conan Edogawa seemed to constantly attract murder cases.

Looking at the strange collection of requests—most of which had nothing to do with detective work—Jiang Hang couldn't help but complain internally.

"Is this a detective agency… or a general help center?"

Then again, considering that the system had forcibly transformed itself from an Assassin System into a Detective System, Jiang Hang felt he should probably be grateful that it worked at all.

After selecting several simple tasks that could be completed along the way, Jiang Hang prepared to head out.

But as he reached the door and glanced back at the empty office, a thought suddenly occurred to him.

With the notice board and exploration missions constantly pulling him outside, he would probably spend very little time actually sitting in the agency.

What if someone came looking for a detective while he was away?

It seemed he would need to hire a receptionist or assistant as soon as possible.

The moment Jiang Hang thought about a receptionist assistant, several interesting images flashed through his mind.

He coughed awkwardly.

Of course, he absolutely wasn't thinking about any inappropriate workplace rules.

As a righteous detective who spread positive energy throughout society, Jiang Hang would never entertain such indecent thoughts.

Still…

If he had to hire an assistant, it would be nice if they were at least pleasant to look at.

With enough money, hiring someone would be easy.

After contacting the real estate intermediary he had worked with before and explaining his requirements, Jiang Hang simply had to wait for them to send him a list of candidates.

For the rest of the day, Jiang Hang wandered around the neighborhood.

He helped a lost young man find his way.

He paid for groceries when an elderly woman realized she had forgotten her wallet.

He also encountered a child who had twisted his ankle while playing with friends. Jiang Hang carried the boy to a nearby clinic and made sure he received treatment.

After completing each small task, Jiang Hang not only gained reputation and goodwill from the neighborhood, but also received cash rewards starting at one million yen.

In just a single afternoon, Jiang Hang's wallet had grown by nearly ten million yen.

When the injured child's parents expressed their heartfelt thanks, Jiang Hang glanced at his newly enriched wallet and smiled with equal sincerity.

From today onward…

He was officially a detective dedicated to spreading positive energy throughout society.

Ah.

The life of a righteous detective was truly simple, unpretentious…

…and incredibly profitable.
