Maya's POV
The final day of the conference arrived with an almost frantic atmosphere. After spending the entire day balancing wedding arrangements and Audrey's relentless requests, the thought of the intersectoral event finally ending felt like a small mercy—even with the dangerous new mission we were about to undertake.
"Don't forget, you both need to appear completely natural," Dominic reminded us as we approached the venue. "Like a couple who worked through their problems and came out even stronger."
"We understand," Sebastian responded, his voice carrying a sharp edge. "This isn't our first time playing the part of lovers."
Dominic held up his hands defensively. "I'm just pointing out that everything depends on this. The place will be crawling with reporters."
Sebastian took my hand, weaving his fingers through mine with an ease that felt too familiar for two people who had supposedly been separated for months—if we had actually been apart at all.
