Once upon a time, in a quiet green forest, there lived a speedy rabbit and a slow but steady turtle. The rabbit was very proud of his fast legs. He would often run around the forest showing off his speed.
One day, the rabbit saw the turtle walking slowly along the path.
"Why do you move so slowly?" the rabbit laughed. "You will never reach anywhere on time!"
The turtle calmly replied, "Slow and steady can also win the race."
The rabbit burst out laughing. "You? Win a race against me? That's impossible!"
The other animals of the forest gathered around when they heard this. A fox suggested, "Why don't you both have a race and see who wins?"
The rabbit quickly agreed, confident of his victory. The turtle nodded quietly.
The race began. The rabbit ran very fast and soon left the turtle far behind. After running a long distance, the rabbit looked back and saw the turtle moving slowly, still far away.
"I have plenty of time," the rabbit thought. "I'll rest under this tree for a while."
He lay down under a shady tree and soon fell asleep.
Meanwhile, the turtle kept walking slowly but without stopping. Step by step, he moved forward. After a long time, he passed the sleeping rabbit and continued towards the finish line.
When the rabbit finally woke up, he was shocked to see the turtle near the end of the race. He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. The turtle had already crossed the finish line.
All the animals cheered for the turtle.
The rabbit felt ashamed and learned an important lesson that day.
Moral of the story: Slow and steady wins the race.
