Aremic fell to the floor, seemingly unable to move
"Kiba" Rias ordered
"Understood" he replied, moving over to Aremic, Varyn making no effort to stop him as he moved to the side "he's alive" Kiba stated "his pulse is slightly elevated, but that makes sense given the situation"
"The controls to release Blaze are the ones on the right" Varyn explained, pointing to one of the consoles
"Caspera, can I leave this to you?" Rias asked
"Of course Rias" Caspera bowed "leave it to me" she stated as she moved over to the console and started looking over it, inputting codes and pressing buttons
"Xenovia, please assist Blaze and be ready in case this is a trap, be ready to use Durrandel to cut Blaze free if necessary" Rias continued "Akeno, Koneko, be ready just in case"
"Right" the three women responed, Xenovia walking over to Blaze cautiously while keeping Varyn in her sights while Akeno and Koneko stood near to Rias
"So, may I ask why you have decided to betray your king and help us?" Rias questioned Varyn
"Oh, I'm afraid that you are mistaken in many different ways" Varyn chuckled
"What do you mean by that?" Akeno frowned
"Well firstly I have not betrayed my king, I never viewed him as my king, he is much more of a, how would you say, ah yes, a backer for my experiments, he provides the money and can ask for my assistance with experiments and monitoring, but all in all it is a business deal between the two of us, the fact that he reincarnated me as a devil was just part of the deal in which he purchased my skills with, my true loyalties lie elsewere"
"Please don't say you're actually part of the kaos brigade" Blaze hypothesised as her restraints finally opened and she got off of the metal table, Xenovia ready to help if there was anything that they had done to her, such as drug her
"Impressive deduction" Varyn smiled "yes I am part of the kaos brigade, I work with them as they allow me to perform experiments that are looked down upon and that I would not be able to perform without their assistance"
"But what part of the kaos brigade would want you on their side?" Blaze questioned "you're not a devil so it wouldn't be the old maou faction, and Vali wouldn't team up with someone like you who doesn't seem like a battle maniac"
"I am a part of the third group that makes up the kaos brigade, the hero faction" Varyn explained
"The hero faction? but why would they be interested in someone like you?" Xenovia asked
"To answer that allow me to re-introduce myself, Varyn Moreau, at your service" he bowed "you probably would recognise the name of my ancestor if any of you are well read, does the name doctor Moreau ring any bells to any of you?"
"Dr Moreau, you mean from the novel 'The island of doctor Moreau'?" Rias gasped
"The very one" Varyn smiled "and due to him not interacting with the world many people did not realise that he was the owner of a sacred gear, forceful fusion, it allowed him to fuse beings together so long as he was stronger than they were, and as his descendant, I have inherited this power"
"Ok, so you're the ancestor of the original furry" Blaze frowned "what does that have to do with doing all of this?"
"And how do you exist, Dr Moreau was said to have died alone on his island with no mention of any family?" Rias inquired
"Well you see, to answer Ms Rias's question first, when Dr Moreau was young he was actually quite the famous scientist and was granted research money from all around the world, more money than he ever needed, and as such in order to maintain a clear mind and be able to focus on his experiments he would regularly go out to, lets say, relieve himself of his urges, and due to the time period that it happened in, contraception was not an option, as such his bloodline continued without his knowledge, eventually leading to my parents having me with a trace of his bloodline, enough to inherit his genius level intelligence and his sacred gear" Varyn informed the group
"As for doing all of this, it comes in two main reasons, the first is that the kaos brigade actually reached out to me first, offering me incredible conditions while not interfering with my work, however while I was gathering together my research to move, low and behold, Aremic found me and asked whether I would join him in his research" he gestured to the devil on the floor "and how could I refuse, enhancing my base abilities by becoming a devil, and one with the power of the queen piece would allow me to use my sacred gear much more easily and create much more powerful creatures, plus the chance to interact with creatures native to the underworld which have much more varied abilities compared to the simple creatures that live on earth, as such I accepted his offer while informing the kaos brigade of my plans, of which they agreed whole heartedly"
"And what's the other reason?" Xenovia challenged, already holding Durrandel and pointing it at Varyn ready to strike at a moments notice
"Well I have recently made a breakthrough in my research in two areas, the first is this" Varyn noted, the small bug from earlier still sitting on his shoulder "a small creature that when it bites its target causes its desires to grow exponentially, I tested it on Aremic here and I must say that it had a most wonderful affect, turning a simple scientist who wished for the betterment of the underworld and to one day create a chimera that would be able to help anyone in any situation to become so focused on creating the ultimate chimera that he didn't care what level he had to stoop to in order to achieve his goal, focusing on making it as powerful as possible with as many abilities so that it was powerful enough to deal with any problems, causing his initial noble goal to become distorted" he chuckled
"And the other" Akeno frowned, flames and lightning crackling in her hands
"Well, like I said, he had become so focused on creating the ultimate chimera that he started making prototypes for the formula, one of which I took for myself and added as much blood and therefore abilities from a variety of creatures, something I struggled to do even with the power of a queen that I posses, but fortunately I got a catalyst recently that allowed the traits to fuse together easier, but until now I didn't have a good test subject to try it out on as it requires a certain level of power and bloodline to be able to withstand the serums effects, and it does take a long time for it to take affect"
"It couldn't be" Rias gasped in shock, looking over at Aremic who was starting to convulse on the ground
"You think I was telling you all of this out of the goodness of my heart" Varyn grinned with an evil smile
"You bastard" Xenovia roared as she lunged at Varyn, swinging Durrandel
Surprisingly the blade went right through him as if he wasn't even there
"Another reason I was stalling for time is that I am unfamiliar with some of the abilities that I have given myself, depending on the creature that I fuse with myself, I am only able to give myself a single ability at a time at my current strength without the creature that I have fused with trying to overpower me, but for the moment I am pleased with the choice of creature, the shadow lizard, it allows me to move between two shadows that I have designated, and designating my current shadow allows me to move to the other shadow so long as I focus, my body turning into a shadow during the time that I do so, and since it is a natural ability it is unaffected by any special abilities, sacred gears or magic that lock down spaces, making it so that even with the preparation time that it is well worth having, now if you will excuse me, I have a meeting with the leader of the hero faction, it seems he has gained an interest in a certain field that also interests me, and you appear to have more pressing matters to deal with" Varyn grinned as his body dissipated into a shadowy mist
"Tsk" Xenovia clicked her tongue as she and the rest of the group now focused their attention on Aremic who was writhing on the floor, his body starting to grown bigger, and his skin swelling as something that didn't seem human seemed to push against it in various parts
"Get ready everyone, we don't know whether the higher ups have learned what has happened in here, and until we defeat Aremic the rating game will not be considered to be finished, the goal remains the same, take out the king and the game ends and we can all get out of here" Rias commanded as Aremic took on a beastly form with seemingly not cohesion between the parts he was made of, his eyes devoid of intelligence and a destructive aura with obvious urge to destroy surrounding him.
