(JASPER'S POV)
Their perimeter wards were impressive. I could feel the magic woven through the forest, layered carefully enough to alert the coven to almost any supernatural presence attempting to cross into their territory.
Someone had done their homework.
I teleported straight through the outer defenses anyway.
The moment I crossed the inner threshold, the entire city erupted in magical alarms.
Wards screamed from the rooftops. Blue-white lights flashed between the buildings, and a pulse of magic swept through the streets hard enough to shake snow from the branches.
Doors flew open.
Vampires poured out of houses, climbed through windows, and dropped from rooftops. More appeared between the trees, their eyes glowing red as they surrounded the village square.
Within seconds, I was standing in the middle of several hundred angry vampires.
The rest were coming.
Well. This was going to be fun.
