The apartment was chaos.
Leo stood in the middle of his room, staring at the suitcase on his bed. It was open. Mostly empty. A few clothes were folded inside, but they looked wrong somehow like they didn't belong in that suitcase, like they belonged in a closet, waiting.
He'd never done this before.
Never packed for a trip like this. Never packed for someone else. Never packed for a future that felt so real.
The grey sweater was draped over the back of his chair. He reached for it. Brought it to his face. It smelled like the apartment now like home, like the laundry detergent Lila had bought last month, like the faint trace of coffee that always lingered in the kitchen.
He folded it carefully. Placed it in the suitcase.
"Leo."
Alex's voice came from the doorway. Leo turned.
