The morning was grey.
Leo woke before his alarm. The room was dark, the sky outside the window heavy with clouds. He lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling, listening to his roommate's quiet breathing from the other bed.
Today was the day.
He'd imagined this moment so many times the relief, the joy, the sense of completion.
But now that it was here, he felt nothing. Just a strange, hollow calm. Like his body knew it was done and his mind hadn't caught up yet.
Leo sat up.
The grey sweater was still on the chair. He reached for it. Held it for a moment. Then he put it on.
It smelled like nothing now. Just like him. But it still felt like Alex.
He stood up. Walked to the window.
The campus was quiet. A few students walked across the grass, bundled in coats, their breath visible in the cold air. The clouds were thin enough that the sun was starting to break through.
Leo checked his phone.
No messages from Alex.
