Chapter 2 - The Goddess’ Blessing

In the year of the Divine Emperor 642, in the fifth month of the year at midnight of the thirteenth day a child was born. This child was born with black hair and eyes, with the grimace of a seasoned veteran, but the child had no pulse and uttered no cry.

The family was distraught because they had traveled a long way to find a suitable place to settle down. The father, a man with hair and eyes as black as the moonless night, held his wife as she mourned the death of her first born.

But on this day a Goddess gazed upon this woman lamenting the death of her child and was displeased upon the great loss to the world this was. The Goddess decided to take drastic measures and using her authority as a goddess breathed life into the child.

The Crying of the woman was soon joined by the voice of another. The father, confused, looked next to the bed, on a table to find the child once thought to be dead was breathing with new life. The confusion in his hardened face grew, a realization dawned upon him. His face once austere and downcast filled with joy. He took the child in his rugged hands and raised him to the ceiling proclaiming that his child was alive. The mother was swiftly swept out of her mourning and took hold of her Son and praised the Goddess. For her son, which she thought was lost, was brought back to her. The father held his wife, and the mother held her child.

The Goddess looked upon this touching scene astounded by the joy just one child could bring, smiling upon that child knowing he would grow up to do amazing things.

12 years later

"YAH, YAH, YAH" The sounds of a boy ring through the yard. The boy is swinging a sword down onto a log. "YAH, YAH, YA…"

"Wrong! Wrong! You're doing it all wrong! You must follow through on your attacks. Don't just try and hit your target, try and swing through it." Yelled the man watching over the youth.

"I apologize father, I will do better in the future"

"Good, now you will start over on a new target, and we won't stop until you do it correct all the way through." The father yelled, placing a new log in the place of the old one.

"Yes, father!" the boy yelled, his eye twitching.

Ahhh! When will this torture end? It feels like my muscles are being grinded into a powder! Honestly it feels like father just enjoys torturing me at this point.

"Hey Galen, you know if you do it right to begin with then you wouldn't have to start over"

"I know, it's just very difficult. My muscles already feel like jelly."

"Well, it wouldn't be training if it was easy now, would it? You must struggle now so that you will be strong in the future." The man said as he pounded his fist to his chest.

"If I keep going like this it feels like I won't have a future!" Galen yelled while doing his best to act as if he was dying.

"Don't be so dramatic you'll be fine. Now, breaks over return to your swings at once!"

"Aww!"

Galen picked up his sword and brought it down with all his might

"YAH"

Galen then continued his training swinging at the log until it was split in two.

"Good, that's enough for today." Galen's father said nodding his approval

Galen stood up and bowed to his father and spoke

"Thank you for your instruction!"

Galen raised his head and began to clean up the mess he made in the yard. Watching this his father called out to the boy.

"Hey, I can take care of the cleaning you just go and see if your mother needs help with any chores"

"Thank you, father." Galen replied as he ran inside

"Hello, my name is Galen. I'm a swordsman from Nazany, so you might not have heard of me, but I promise my skills are not to be trifled with."

"You know Galen the swordsman, the dishes wash a lot better if you scrub them instead of talking to them."

Galen turned around to see his kid sister laughing at him from the hallway.

"Shut up Olivia, I'm practicing my introduction for when I'm famous adventurer."

As Galen said this a smooth voice rang out from behind him.

"Oh, you're practicing, I thought you were doing the dishes like I asked you."

Galen slowly turned around to see the figure of his mother looming over him.

"I'm sorry mother I will finish them as soon as possible."

"Good, but you know, Galen it's okay to look to the future. But looking to the future does no good if you don't take care of what needs to be done right now."

"Yes mother."

"You know what I will finish the dishes you can go and play with your friends."

"Really! Oh, thank you mom."

Galen's face lit up with joy and he hugged his mother

"Okay I will be off."

Galen said as he grabbed his sandals

"Oh, make sure and take Olivia with you" Galen/s mother called from the kitchen

"Really mom, do I have to take Olivia with me. She always complains about the games we play."

"that's too bad, your mother's busy today and so is your father so somebody need to watch her. Unless you don't want to play with your friends." Galen's mother remarked with a sly tone

"Fine, I'll take her but, I'm not watching her tomorrow."

"Oh, in that case grab some flour from the market while you're in town for dinner tomorrow."

"But why?"

"Since I going to be watching your sister tomorrow, I won't have time."

"Okay I understand."

Galen acquiesced and called out to his sister

"OLIVIA GRAB SANDLES I WANNA LEAVE SOON!"

"I HEARD YOU" she yelled back

After a couple of minutes, the siblings were ready to go

"Hey Olivia make sure your brother doesn't forget the flour okay."

"Okay mom"

"I won't" Galen called back signing.

And the siblings were off.
