Earth's civilization didn't last much longer after his death; bases fell one by one until only a thousand or so people remained on the planet after a few years. Not long after that, the last person on Earth died of illness in a dark, cold underground cavern.

Before the Apocalypse, its population had dropped to around one billion, but now, nearly seven years later, it hadn't decreased but had instead grown, breaking the 1.4 billion mark to surpass its former peak. In a few more years, it might even exceed two billion.
