Chapter 4: I Feel Safe with You Around
After thanking her, Lin Bei quickly walked up to the second floor.
Ash's room was similar to the one in the game, with Pokémon models on the desk and posters on the walls. The most prominent feature was a PC next to the desk.
He walked over, sat down, and pressed the power button. The screen soon lit up, displaying several options:
Withdraw Item, Deposit Item, Toss Item, Shut Down PC.
"Just like in the game!"
Lin Bei's eyes lit up, and he immediately selected "Withdraw Item."
After the screen refreshed, it only displayed "Potion ×1."
He quickly clicked "Withdraw." The next second, a small blue bottle appeared out of thin air next to the PC.
It was indeed a Potion that could restore a Pokémon's HP.
"I always forgot to take this when playing the games before; I can't miss it this time."
Lin Bei smiled and put the Potion into his space backpack, then turned off the PC and went downstairs to say goodbye to Ash's Mom.
"Auntie, it's getting late, I should get going. Thank you for the tea and your supporting, I will come again to feel your supporting."
Hearing his later words she got shy but she thought Lin Bie as a child but never in her mind thought it dark way .
"Be careful on the road, and I wish you a successful journey!"
Ash's Mom waved with a smile.
Leaving Ash's house and all the fantasizing thought for next time , Lin Bei headed straight for his destination, the Oak Pokémon Lab.
What he lacked most right now was a Pokédex. With it, he could not only record Pokémon information but also decide which Pokémon he would transform into in the future.
The door to the Research Institute wasn't closed. Lin Bei pushed it open and walked in, immediately seeing Professor Oak in a white lab coat sitting at an experimental bench, busy with a pile of test tubes.
Sunlight spilled through the window onto his silver-gray hair, making him look exceptionally kind.
Lin Bei walked over quietly and waited for the Professor to stop his movements before speaking up to greet him:
"Hello, Professor Oak!"
Professor Oak turned around, pushed up his glasses, and asked with a smile:
"Oh? Are you a new Trainer? Is there something I can help you with?"
"My name is Lin Bei, and I'm a Pokémon Trainer who has just started my journey."
Lin Bei straightened his back and said seriously:
"I heard you have Pokédexes here. Could you please give me one? I want to record the Pokémon I encounter during my journey."
"Do you have your own Pokémon?"
Professor Oak raised an eyebrow, as Pokédexes were usually given to Trainers who had a starter Pokémon.
Lin Bei nodded immediately, pulled the pink friend ball out of his backpack, and shouted toward the open space:
"Come out, Diana !"
A white light flashed, and Jessie's figure appeared on the ground.
However, in Professor Oak's eyes, what he saw was a small fox with a tail split into six strands—it was indeed the Fire-type Vulpix.
"Wow, what a cute Vulpix."
Professor Oak's eyes lit up, and he couldn't help but lean in for a closer look.
Lin Bei smiled and said:
"Diana, come back for now."
The white light shone again, and Musashi returned to the friend ball.
"Good, good. It seems you are indeed a serious Trainer."
Professor Oak nodded with satisfaction, turned to take an orange-yellow rectangular device from a drawer in the experimental bench, and handed it to Lin Bei.
"I'm entrusting this Pokédex to you. I hope you can travel across the Kanto region soon and complete the information within it."
Lin Bei quickly took the pokedex with both hands and opened it excitedly.
Most of the screen was black, with only the slot for No.037 in the top left corner lit up, displaying the name "Vulpix" and a brief introduction, along with an illustration of a Vulpix next to it.
He knew this was because he had only seen Diana's transformed Vulpix so far and hadn't encountered any other Pokémon yet.
Just then, the system's voice sounded in his mind:
[Congratulations to the Host for successfully obtaining a Pokédex!
Current main objective updated: Become the Kanto Pokemon League Champion.
Please set out on your journey as soon as possible, challenge Gyms, collect badges, and make a push for the Championship!]
Lin Bei gripped the pokedex in his hand, and his mind suddenly cleared.
Before, he had only vaguely wanted to be an excellent Trainer, but now he had a clear short-term goal—to become the Kanto Champion first!
He looked out the window, where the small path outside Pallet Town stretched into the distance.
"Kanto region, here I come!"
Lin Bei muttered softly, put the pokedex into his backpack, thanked Professor Oak, and turned to walk out of the Research Institute.
His Pokémon journey was finally about to officially begin.
As soon as Lin Bei walked out of the Oak Pokémon Lab's gates, he headed toward Route 1.
Route 1 connected Pallet Town and Viridian City. The roadside was covered in waist-high green grass that rustled when the wind blew, looking almost exactly like the scenes in the game.
He had only taken a few steps into the tall grass when a purple shadow suddenly darted out from beneath his feet.
A Rattata with round ears and a long tail was baring its teeth at him, its eyes full of alertness.
Lin Bei looked down at his backpack and smiled as he pulled out the pink friend ball:
"Diana, it's time to work!"
A white light flashed, and Jessie's figure landed beside him.
"Roger~"
Jessie responded, raised her hand to tidy the long hair by her ear, and her gaze became serious.
"Great Treasure, use Ember first!"
Lin Bei immediately issued a command.
Orange-red sparks flickered at Jessie's fingertips as she flicked them toward the Rattata.
But the Rattata reacted very quickly, suddenly wagging its tail as a faint white light swept over Jessie.
A prompt instantly popped up on the system panel:
[Rattata used Tail Whip. Diana's (Vulpix) Defense fell by 1 stage!]
"It's fine, keep using Ember!"
Lin Bei wasn't flustered at all; Gen 1 battles were just that straightforward.
Jessie condensed an Ember again, and this time it accurately hit the Rattata's back!
The Rattata let out a shriek as faint black smoke rose from its body; it looked like its HP had dropped by about half.
But it wasn't to be outdone; it kicked off with its hind legs and lunged toward Jessie .
With a "thud," Jessie was knocked back two steps. Her HP on the panel instantly dropped from full to less than half, with only 5 points remaining.
"As expected, her level is too low; her Defense and HP aren't enough."
Lin Bei muttered to himself and quickly shouted:
"Diana, use Ember one more time and finish it!"
Jessie bit her lip and forced herself to condense an Ember. This time the flames were stronger than before, directly engulfing the Rattata.
The Rattata struggled twice before lying motionless in the grass, vanishing into a white light. Simultaneously, a system prompt sounded:
[Defeated LV2 Rattata. Gained 16 Experience Points! Diana (Vulpix) leveled up to LV2!]
The attributes on the panel were immediately updated:
HP became 15, Attack 7, Defense 7, Special 7, Speed 7. 20 experience points needed for the next level.
Lin Bei quickly pulled the Potion he had taken from Ash's house out of his backpack and handed it to Jessie:
"Quickly use this to restore your HP."
Jessie took the small blue bottle, unscrewed it, and took a sip. A faint white light immediately rose from her body, and her HP was instantly filled.
"Much better~"
She smiled and reached out to brush the grass clippings off herself.
"We're surrounded by tall grass now, so we might encounter more wild Pokémon. I'll stay out here with you; that way I can react faster."
"Sure, I feel safe with you around."
Lin Bei nodded, put the friend ball into his backpack, and the two of them walked side by side toward Viridian City.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
From now on Jessie will be called Musashi and her Pokemon Diana will be called Great Treasure .
