Chapter 77 - Ch 77: Chat between Geto and Jogo

Jogo came to where 'Geto' was only to see Geto in a deep state of self-pondering.

Geto was sitting on the ground, without any rags or anything beneath to cover from dust. It seems like he was connected to the eyes of cursed spirits to observe the battles that are happening in either Shinjuku or Kyoto. After some more time passed, Geto opened his eyes and looked at Jogo.

"It seems that hole in your body is healed." Geto said much to Jogo's annoyance, but he couldn't show the anger, as Geto already told him not to involve himself, only to observe. It was his curiosity that got the best of him and attacked Yuta, which led to him making his way to that blonde-haired boy.

"Who was it?" Jogo's voice was filled with curiosity of the human that almost killed him, if not for the collateral that would also die. Jogo always believed it would be Gojo Satoru who would be the biggest hurdle to cross to achieve their dream.

But it seems there was also another monster, laid out in shadow, and he has successfully poked it. Jogo didn't fear death, not like his kind even has one; he would come back after a century or so, but currently there was no need for him in the plan that Geto conjectured was absolute, so he needed to tend carefully to his next step.

The snake he stepped on might bite him in an unexpected situation.

"His name is Naoya Zenin," Geto answered Jogo's question.

"What was the technique he used to make my fire feel like a bonfire?" That was his biggest curiosity; his basic fire, which can even melt copper and iron, was made to feel like an ordinary wood fire in a BBQ stand. And Naoya even took it directly and just shrugged it off like nothing; even the small burn was instantly healed.

Jogo belive that in flame-based techniques he stood at the top, but now that pride got a direct hit because his fire can't even properly burn a human.

"He has two techniques. The speed you saw from him is because of the Projectile Sorcery, which was granted by his bloodline, and the technique that nullified your attack was something called Karmic Override."

"What is its power?"

"It is a reality-interference type technique. He can edit the final outcome of any attack," Geto stated in a monotone. His voice lacked any hint of surprise as he explained the nature of such a cheat-like ability; but even for someone like him, who had lived for nearly a thousand years, it was the first time he had ever witnessed such a thing.

"What?! That's impossible," Jogo exclaimed, his surprise was warranted because of the absurdity he was hearing. "Doesn't that effectively make him immune to all attacks? A technique like that must have a fatal flaw; otherwise, it's completely broken."

"It does require a massive amount of cursed energy," Geto replied, his tone remaining clinical. "However, his binding vow compensates for the cost, and it possesses a unique feedback loop: the more pain he suffers, the more his cursed energy reserves increase."

Jogo's expression darkened. "So, we can't even touch him? There has to be a trade-off. What did he have to sacrifice for a binding vow that powerful?"

Geto turned his gaze toward the sky, watching the stars flicker in the quiet night air. "That," he murmured, "is exactly what I am trying to determine."

Hearing Geto's calm and pragmatic answer, Jogo fell silent. His single eyebrow then shot up in suspicion. "How did you know about that reality-interference technique? From what I read from the reports indicated that no one present possessed such an ability, which means Naoya must have been hiding it even from his own kind. So, how did you find out about it?"

A slow, cryptic, and chillingly small laugh escaped Geto's thin lips as he turned his gaze away, staring off into the vast, uncaring darkness of the horizon. "Some mysteries are better left unexamined," he replied softly, his tone was dismissive and cold as continued to look at the night sky "As for how I know? Let's just call it a secret."

Jogo didn't press it further as he nodded. He already got what he wanted anyway; anything more, he needs to obtain it himself.

"So about the fight." Jogo changed the subject.

"It has reached its conclusion, though the causality in Shinjuku remains significantly lower than in Kyoto. Naoya's Reverse Cursed Technique played a pivotal role in shifting that balance."

"And what of Geto Suguru's subordinates?"

"The twins, Mimiko and Nanako Hasaba, are dead. Miguel Oduol and Larue managed to escape, but there is no information regarding Toshihisa Negi's whereabouts, but he is insignificant just like Manami Suda."

"I see," Jogo murmured.
