A Big Dream in a Small House
In a small village of West Bengal lived a twelve-year-old boy named Suman. Their home was made of mud walls with a straw roof and very little furniture. His father worked as a daily laborer, and his mother worked in other people's houses.
They often struggled to manage two proper meals a day, yet Suman always had a smile on his face. He went to school wearing old clothes and carrying a torn school bag. Sometimes his classmates laughed at him, but he never minded.
At night, he studied under the dim light of a kerosene lamp. His mother would say,
— "My son, one day you will become a great man and remove all our sorrows."
Suman had only one dream—to study hard and become successful.
Days of Hardship
One day, Suman's father suddenly fell ill. He could not work for many days. The family's income stopped completely. There was no food at home and no money for medicine.
Suman decided to work along with his studies. After school, he sold vegetables in the market. With his small hands, he carried a heavy basket and walked around to earn a little money.
Life was very difficult, but he did not give up. At night, with his tired body, he opened his books to study. Sometimes sleep would close his eyes, but remembering his mother's words, he forced himself to stay awake.
He would think, "There is suffering today, but surely better days will come."
A Ray of Hope
One day, the headmaster of the school noticed Suman's hard work. He called him and asked about his situation. After hearing everything, he was deeply moved.
A few days later, Suman received a scholarship. With that money, he could pay for his books, notebooks, and school fees.
Gradually, his father recovered. A little happiness returned to their home.
Suman studied even harder. He realized that being poor is not a crime—but giving up is.
Dream Fulfilled
Years passed. Through hard work and strong determination, Suman grew up to become a doctor.
Although he got a job in a big city hospital, he never forgot his village. Every month, he returned to his village to treat poor patients free of cost.
The villagers proudly said,
— "That is Suman! Once he had no food at home, and today he is our pride!"
Holding his mother's hand, Suman would say,
— "Mother, without your blessings and sacrifices, I would never have reached here."
