Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Heavenly Ascendant Sect Rises:

The Azure Peak had transformed.

Where once there were only wooden huts and dreams, now stood a proper sect compound. Stone pathways wound through terraced gardens where spirit herbs grew in neat rows. A modest meditation hall had been constructed from mountain stone, its walls etched with formation arrays that pulsed with soft blue light.

Most importantly—three new disciples had joined their ranks.

Lin Xian stood at the edge of the training grounds, watching his three disciples spar against each other. Three months of proper cultivation had worked wonders.

Lin Qingyi moved like a phoenix reborn—her flames now burned with soul fire, casting dancing shadows across the clearing. Every strike carried the heat of resurrection, every movement precise and deadly.

Xiao Feng fought with perfect balance, his yin-yang techniques neutralizing his sister's sonic attacks before they could affect him. The boy had grown confident in ways no one had expected, his guarded nature melting away under Lin Xian's patient guidance.

Xiao Ling was a force of nature—her celestial sound body allowing her to manipulate sound waves in ways that defied conventional cultivation theory. She could shatter stone with a scream or heal wounds with a whisper.

"Your form is still sloppy," Lin Xian called out, stepping onto the training field. "Qingyi, you're relying too much on raw power. Feng, your balance is good but you're being too defensive. Ling, work on controlling your volume—you don't need to shatter eardrums to win a fight."

The three disciples stopped, bowing respectfully to their master.

"Master Lin," a voice called from behind them. "The afternoon meal is ready. Master Yue asked me to remind you that you've been training for four hours straight."

Lin Xian turned to see the newest member of their sect approaching—a young man named Chen Yi, who had arrived at their camp two weeks ago.

DISCIPLE 4 DETECTED

Name: Chen Yi Age: 19 Constitution: Empty Vessel Body (Unique/Rare) Current Cultivation: Qi Condensation Stage (Ninth Layer) Loyalty: 70% (Grateful) Potential: Supreme-tier

Specialization: Absorption, Energy Manipulation, Barrier Techniques

Chen Yi was average-looking in every way—neither handsome nor plain, neither tall nor short. His only remarkable feature was his eyes, which seemed to absorb light rather than reflect it.

He had been a discarded disciple from the Meridian Sect—a minor faction that had kicked him out for having an "empty" constitution that couldn't store energy properly. What they hadn't understood was that his body could absorb any energy, convert it, and release it tenfold.

When Lin Xian had found him, Chen Yi had been nearly dead—starving in a ditch, his cultivation failing, his future completely黑暗.

Now he was a Core Formation cultivator on the verge of breakthrough.

"Alright," Lin Xian smiled, clapping Chen Yi on the shoulder. "Let's eat. I want to discuss something with everyone after meal."

The dining hall was a simple wooden structure, but it was warm and filled with the smell of food—nothing fancy, just rice and vegetables from their spirit gardens, but filling and nutritious.

Su Yue sat at the head of the table, her silver hair pinned up with jade combs, her amethyst eyes watching her disciples with quiet satisfaction. She rarely ate—cultivators at her level could sustain themselves on spiritual energy—but she enjoyed the ritual of mealtimes.

"Master Yue," Xiao Ling said eagerly, "I broke through to Foundation Establishment today! Can you teach me a new technique?"

Su Yue smiled that ethereal smile. "Patience, little one. Your foundation is still unstable. Focus on stabilizing your current level before seeking new techniques."

"But—"

"Ling," Lin Xian interrupted gently, "your master is right. Sound cultivation requires perfect control. If you advance too quickly, you could damage your vocal cords permanently."

Xiao Ling pouted but nodded, returning to her food.

After the meal, Lin Xian gathered all four disciples in the meditation hall.

"Listen up," he said, his expression serious. "I've received news from the village. There's a group of cultivators heading this way—about twenty of them, led by someone from the Black Flame Sect."

The disciples exchanged glances. The Black Flame Sect—one of the six sects that had rejected Xiao Feng and Xiao Ling.

"They're not here for a friendly visit," Lin Xian continued. "According to the villagers, they're searching for something. Or someone."

"Us," Su Yue said softly, appearing beside Lin Xian without a sound. Her presence still startled the newer disciples. "They know we're here. The Frost Moon Sect must have spread the word."

Lin Xian nodded grimly. "The question is—what do we do about it?"

"We could run," Chen Yi suggested quietly. "Hide in the mountains until they leave."

"No," Lin Qingyi spoke for the first time, her voice cold as ice. "We've run enough. Let them come. I'll burn them all to ash."

"Feng? Ling? What do you think?"

Xiao Feng's dark eyes were thoughtful. "We could ambush them. Use the terrain to our advantage. The Azure Mountain Range is full of hidden passes and cliff faces."

Xiao Ling nodded vigorously. "I could detect them from miles away. No one can hide from my sound waves."

Lin Xian smiled—a fierce, determined smile. "That's the spirit. But we're not going to hide or ambush them."

He stood, his gaze sweeping across his disciples.

"We're going to welcome them. Properly."

The Black Flame Sect cultivators arrived at sunset.

They came marching up the mountain path in perfect formation, their black robes billowing, their weapons drawn. Leading them was a young man with fiery red hair and a arrogant sneer—Han Yu, the third son of the Black Flame Sect Elder.

Behind him were eighteen disciples, all at Foundation Establishment or above. A show of force. A warning.

At the base of Azure Peak, they found Lin Xian waiting—alone, hands clasped behind his back, his expression completely calm.

"Han Yu," Lin Xian greeted, his voice carrying easily across the distance. "To what do we owe the pleasure?"

Han Yu's sneer deepened. "So this is where the trash ended up. Expelled by the Frost Moon Sect, reduced to hiding in the wilderness with a bunch of beggars."

"They're not beggars," Lin Xian replied smoothly. "They're my disciples."

"Disciples?" Han Yu laughed, the sound harsh and mocking. "You? A trash-tier cultivator who couldn't breakthrough after seven years? Teaching disciples? That's the funniest thing I've heard all year."

"Actually," Lin Xian said, smiling, "I've been told I'm a rather good teacher."

Behind him, four figures emerged from the treeline—Lin Qingyi, Xiao Feng, Xiao Ling, and Chen Yi. Each took position flanking their master, their cultivation aura exploding outward.

Han Yu's eyes widened slightly. He could sense their power—these weren't weak cultivators. The girl with the black hair radiated heat like a furnace. The boy with the yin-yang aura was somehow both warm and cold at the same time. The girl with the sound body flickered with barely contained energy. And the average-looking young man at the back... he couldn't sense him at all.

"What is this?" Han Yu demanded, his confidence wavering. "Where did you find these... these..."

"These," Lin Xian interrupted, "are my disciples. And this—" he spread his arms wide, "—is my sect. The Heavenly Ascendant Sect. You're looking at it."

"Your sect?" Han Yu's voice cracked. "This pile of rocks? These wooden huts? You call this a sect?"

"I call it a beginning."

Han Yu's sneer returned, but it was forced now—hollow. "It doesn't matter. We're not here to admire your architecture. We're here for the woman. The one called Su Yue. The Frost Moon Sect wants her back. And they've offered a reward—ten thousand spirit stones for her return."

"Ten thousand spirit stones," Lin Xian repeated. "That's quite a sum."

"So you'll hand her over?"

"Never."

Han Yu's face twisted with fury. "Then you die!"

He raised his hand, and eighteen Black Flame disciples charged.

The battle lasted less than three minutes.

Lin Qingyi exploded into action, her Phoenix Soul Fire transforming the first three attackers into screaming torches. They didn't die—she held back, following Lin Xian's teaching about mercy—but they were definitely out of commission.

Xiao Feng moved like a ghost, his Yin-Yang Mirror reflecting every attack back at its sender. Two disciples found their own weapons turned against them, stumbling backward in confusion.

Xiao Ling opened her mouth and sang.

The sound wave hit the charging cultivators like a physical force. Four of them crumpled instantly, their eardrums ruptured, their bodies paralyzed by the sonic assault. Three more dropped their weapons, clutching their heads in agony.

Chen Yi stood still, his empty vessel body absorbing the ambient spiritual energy from the battlefield. When a disciple's flame attack struck him, he simply caught it, converted it, and threw it back as a concentrated blast of pure fire.

And Lin Xian—

Lin Xian walked forward, his Basic Sword Techniques cutting through defenses like paper. Each movement was simple, elegant, perfectly efficient. He wasn't the strongest fighter here, but he didn't need to be. His disciples were handling everything.

Within moments, only Han Yu remained standing.

He was trembling, his arrogant sneer completely gone, replaced by pure terror. His eighteen disciples lay scattered across the ground—wounded, unconscious, defeated.

"What... what are you?" he whispered, backing away slowly. "What kind of sect is this?"

Lin Xian stopped in front of him, his expression cold.

"The kind that doesn't forget," he said quietly. "You rejected Xiao Feng and Xiao Ling. You called them trash.

He leaned close, his voice dropping to a whisper.

"Remember that. Remember this day. Because one day, the Heavenly Ascendant Sect will be the greatest power in the cultivation world. And you'll have to live with the knowledge that you tried to destroy us when we were nothing."

He turned away, dismissing the trembling cultivator completely.

"Go back to your masters. Tell them what you saw. Tell them we're not going anywhere."

Han Yu scrambled down the mountain path, leaving his fallen disciples behind.

That night, a celebration erupted at Azure Peak.

The disciples laughed and joked, the tension of the battle melting away under the stars. Even Su Yue joined them, sitting beside Lin Xian on the hillside, her presence somehow making the evening feel complete.

"You handled that well," she murmured, her voice soft. "You could have killed them. You chose mercy."

"Mercy is more useful than vengeance," Lin Xian replied. "Those cultivators will spread stories about us. About the sect that defeated twenty Black Flame disciples without losing a single fighter. About the master who refused to kill even his enemies."

"And what will those stories accomplish?"

"Reputation. Fear. Respect." Lin Xian smiled. "And more importantly—attention. The major sects will start noticing us. And when they do, they'll realize they've made a terrible mistake."

Su Yue was silent for a long moment. Then, slowly, she leaned her head against his shoulder.

"You continue to surprise me, Xian'er. Every day, you show me something new."

"Master—"

"Call me Yue," she interrupted, her voice carrying a strange weight. "When we're alone like this... just Yue."

Lin Xian's heart hammered in his chest. "Yue."

She smiled—a genuine smile, rare and precious.

"Rest now, Xian'er. Tomorrow brings new challenges. And I have a feeling—" her amethyst eyes flickered with ancient knowing, "—that the风暴 is only beginning."
