Chapter 4 - Threads of destiny

Back in his apartment, Kael discovered a small, ornate key resting atop his desk. He had no memory of leaving it there. The key was cold, metallic, and hummed faintly with energy. Its shape was intricate: spirals coiling into themselves, symbols etched along its edges that mirrored the tablet from the library.

Kael picked it up, turning it in his fingers. A whisper brushed against his thoughts, soft and ancient: "The door opens to what you seek… and what seeks you."

The city outside continued its oblivious hum, unaware that a mortal held in his hands a tool that could open a doorway between worlds. Kael's chest tightened. The tablet, the code anomaly, the glowing key—everything seemed connected. He felt a shiver of exhilaration. Perhaps destiny existed after all, but it was terrifying to confront.

He traced the key's engravings, feeling an almost electric resonance. His thoughts drifted to the ancient myths he had studied: gods walking among mortals, creatures born of magic and fire, humans who dared to touch the divine. Could he… be one of them?

A pulse of light flickered from the key, projecting a faint image in the air: a doorway suspended in void, swirling with colors his mind couldn't name. Kael stepped back, heart racing. The key wasn't just a tool. It was a signal. A challenge. And he felt, in that moment, that his life—and the world itself—was about to change forever.
