Chapter 228 - Chapter 228: A Call from the Grand Minister

Several veins instantly popped on Beerus's forehead, and his face turned incredibly dark. He grabbed Vegeta's wrist, his eyes full of rage, and the Destruction energy around him surged wildly, making the surrounding air begin to burn.

Vegeta was stunned, suddenly feeling Beerus's power rising rapidly—more than ten times stronger than before. He had a bad premonition. It seems I've caused trouble; Lord Beerus is truly angry!

"Whis, before Lord Beerus's rage explodes, quickly open the protective shield! Otherwise, we'll all be caught in it!" The Prophecy Fish grew anxious and urged quickly, the water in its bowl beginning to boil.

"Alright, alright, I'll open it now." Whis nodded, his staff appearing. With a light tap, a pale-blue protective shield instantly enveloped him and the Prophecy Fish, the shield flickering with Angelic runes.

Rumble!

Accompanied by a world-shaking explosion, a massive amount of Destruction energy erupted from Beerus. The entire Beerus's Planet shook violently, a huge explosion swept across the land, and smoke and dust shot into the sky. Even the distant lake water was mostly evaporated.

"Ah... acting recklessly again. If I had known, I would have persuaded them to spar in the Sacred World of the Kai," Whis sighed helplessly from inside the shield, his tone full of a headache.

After the dust settled, Vegeta was seen with his head pressed into the ground by Beerus, creating a crater dozens of meters in diameter. The rocks at the bottom of the crater had been turned to powder by the Destruction energy. Looking at Vegeta, he had reverted to his base form, his clothes in tatters, blood flowing from the corner of his mouth. He let out cries of pain, unable even to stand up.

"I was lenient with you, and you got ahead of yourself? Did you really think hitting me once meant you could defeat me?" Beerus snorted, his tone full of rage, and the force in his hand increased a bit more.

"Ah... damn it..." Vegeta was full of unwillingness.

"To defeat this God of Destruction, you're still a million years too early!" Beerus chuckled.

Vegeta felt a sharp sting in his heart at those words. Kakarot's Super Saiyan 5 stacked with Ultra Instinct Sign could defeat Beerus. Why can't I? Logically, my strength should be close to Kakarot's. Why is there such a huge gap?

"However, I recognize that you've made such great progress in a short time!" Beerus released Vegeta, stood with hands on his hips, and said with a smile, "If it were in another universe, you could probably become a candidate for a God of Destruction."

Vegeta: "..."

I don't want to be some God of Destruction candidate. I only want to surpass that guy Kakarot!

Swish!

Beerus leaped from the crater and appeared beside Whis. "Whis, go fix him up. Don't let him lie on the ground making a fool of himself," Beerus ordered Whis, his tone still carrying some lingering anger, his tail flicking impatiently.

"Alright, Lord Beerus." Whis nodded, his toes lightly tapping the ground. His body fell as light as a feather, steadily stopping beside Vegeta.

Vegeta lay at the bottom of the crater, looking up at the starry sky, his eyes somewhat dazed. The pain in his chest and the unwillingness in his heart intertwined, leaving him without even the strength to speak.

"There's no need to be unwilling, Mr. Vegeta. To achieve this much in such a short time, you've already done very well." Whis crouched down and advised with a smile. The crystal ball at the top of his staff moved close to Vegeta, and gentle energy slowly seeped into his body, alleviating his injuries.

"Damn it! I'm still completely not his match! Not even a chance to resist!" Vegeta gritted his teeth, his voice full of frustration, his fists clenched so tightly his nails almost dug into his flesh.

"That can't be helped. He is, after all, the God of Destruction of this universe. To do this much is already very remarkable," Whis continued to advise, his tone gentle, trying to calm Vegeta's mind.

Vegeta: "..."

Vegeta remained silent, but his heart was in turmoil. Clearly Kakarot could defeat Beerus, so why can't I? Am I really that much worse than Kakarot?

"Mr. Vegeta wants to ask why Mr. Goku could defeat Lord Beerus while you can't, right?" Whis saw through Vegeta's thoughts and asked with a smile, his eyes full of understanding.

Vegeta remained silent, only nodding slightly, which counted as an admission.

"Mr. Goku wasn't this strong from the beginning either. He also went through countless instances of arduous training and experienced countless battles before finally, with great difficulty, surpassing Lord Beerus," Whis explained patiently and seriously. "Your progress is already very fast; you just need time to settle."

Vegeta didn't say anything. It seems my training is still far from enough. I can't just give up; I must surpass Kakarot!

"Actually, Mr. Vegeta's understanding of Ultra Ego still lacks a bit of fire; you haven't fully mastered the essence," Whis added, his tone objective. "If you train with me, I mainly teach Ultra Instinct, which won't improve your Ultra Ego much and might even disrupt your rhythm."

"I just want to understand more about Ultra Instinct and see exactly how it differs from Ultra Ego," Vegeta said in a low voice, his eyes becoming firm again. "It seems I must find a way to grasp Super Saiyan 5 as soon as possible! As long as I can transform into Super Saiyan 5, I will definitely become stronger!"

"Yes, Super Saiyan 5 is indeed an important breakthrough point," Whis nodded in agreement. "After all, Super Saiyan 5 is much more powerful than Super Saiyan 4. If you stack Ultra Ego on top of Super Saiyan 5, your strength should be able to surpass Lord Beerus and even exceed Mr. Goku's Super Saiyan 5 stacked with Ultra Instinct Sign."

"Understood! I will definitely grasp Super Saiyan 5 as soon as possible!" Vegeta nodded solemnly, a new goal already in his heart, and his previous frustration dissipated quite a bit.

"Then, shall we increase the training time starting tomorrow? I can help you formulate a training plan more suitable for you," Whis proposed, his tone full of expectation.

"No... training can wait," Vegeta shook his head, his tone carrying some urgency. "Sorry, Whis, please send me back to Earth."

"Is there something wrong? Why the rush to go back?" Whis was slightly stunned, his eyes full of confusion. Vegeta was usually the most obsessed with training; why would he suddenly give up training to return to Earth?

"I can't come here to train for the time being; I must go back," Vegeta pondered, his tone carrying some helplessness and a hint of subtle expectation.

"For the time being? Mr. Vegeta, can you be a bit clearer? I don't quite understand." Whis still didn't get Vegeta's meaning and was about to follow up when he suddenly felt a fluctuation from his staff. Someone was calling him.

"Who could it be? So coincidental, calling just as I'm speaking." Whis connected the communication, his tone carrying some laughter. The crystal ball at the top of his staff lit up, revealing the image of the caller.

"Whis, you finally answered. I thought you hadn't received it. It's Goku." Son Goku's voice came from the crystal ball, accompanied by his familiar hearty laughter.

"Oh my, it's Mr. Goku. Is there something you need? Do you want to come over to train again?" Whis said with a smile, his tone full of understanding.

"That's right, that's right. After so long, I feel I've made progress again and want to go to your place to train for a while to see if I can break through the bottleneck," Son Goku proposed.

"No problem, you're welcome anytime." Whis nodded, then changed the subject and asked with a smile, "So what delicious food are you bringing this time? I still can't forget the roasted meat Mrs. Chi-Chi made last time."

"Uh, Chi-Chi has already prepared the food here, all your favorites. You'll definitely be satisfied!" Son Goku laughed.

"That's wonderful, I'm already looking forward to it." Whis nodded, his eyes full of pleasure.

"By the way, I want to bring Vegeta along too. He should be training at home, right?" Son Goku proposed. "I've already arrived at Bulma's house, so let's meet here in an hour and go to Beerus's Planet together, okay?"

"Oh my, what a coincidence. Mr. Vegeta is already here with me, on Beerus's Planet," Whis said with a smile, even specifically turning his staff toward Vegeta so Goku could see him.

Son Goku: "..."

Son Goku was instantly stunned, his tone full of speechlessness: "Vegeta, you're really too much! Actually running off to train alone without calling me!"

"Shut up! You have the nerve to say that to me?" Vegeta snorted, his tone full of dissatisfaction. "Don't think I don't know what you've been up to! You went off to Universe 6 to play by yourself without calling me, and now you have the face to talk to me!"

"Ah... I thought you were training at home and didn't want to be disturbed, so I didn't call you." Son Goku laughed, trying to smooth things over, and then quickly changed the subject. "By the way, in Universe 6, I even met the King of Planet Sadala. He even wanted to spar with me, but he left because of something."

"Hmph!" Vegeta didn't want to waste more words with Goku, simply snorted and turned his face away.

"Forget it, let's not talk about that. Since Vegeta is with you, then pick me up... or... I can just use Instant Transmission to go there. I'll try to see if I can sense your energy." Son Goku pondered, eager to try.

"Oh my, can Mr. Goku already sense the energy here? It seems your Instant Transmission has improved again." Whis smiled slightly, his tone full of praise.

"I should be able to try, might succeed." Son Goku replied with some confidence.

"Truly remarkable, Mr. Goku's talent is indeed unmatched." Whis sighed and added, "However, Mr. Vegeta already plans to return to Earth and doesn't intend to continue training here."

"Eh? Why? Doesn't he love training the most? Why the sudden return?" Son Goku was stunned, full of confusion, completely not understanding Vegeta's thoughts.

"Why is that? Mr. Vegeta, do you want to explain to Mr. Goku?" Whis turned to ask Vegeta.

"Bulma is about to give birth! I must go back to be with her!" Vegeta answered directly, with some urgency and a hint of subtle tenderness. Vegeta didn't want to miss the moment his child was born.

"Hmm? Birth? Birth of what?" Son Goku was a little confused, scratching his head, completely not reacting.

"Sorry for the wait, Goku." Bulma, with her large, round belly, walked out of the house and greeted Goku friendly, yet still with a smile. "Did you specifically come to visit me?"

"Bulma, what's with that belly? Did you eat too much lately and get fat?" Son Goku looked at Bulma's belly in shock, his eyes full of innocent confusion, completely not thinking about pregnancy.

"What! You actually didn't come to visit me!" Bulma instantly grew angry, hands on her hips, a look of dissatisfaction. "Didn't I tell you long ago? I'm about to have a second child, and I'm due any moment now!"

"Eh? Ah... I remember now, you did mention it. I actually forgot." Son Goku laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. "So Bulma, you're about to have a baby. Congratulations, congratulations!"

"Honestly, talking to a single-celled organism like you is like playing a lute to a cow!" Bulma snorted, but wasn't truly angry.

"Well then... since Mr. Goku can use Instant Transmission, please come and pick up Mr. Vegeta. It would take me at least an hour to fly there, and I'm afraid it would delay things." Whis proposed.

"Alright then, but the energy on Earth is a bit complex and not very easy to sense. I'll need someone to help me locate." Son Goku scratched his head and then said to Bulma, "By the way, Bulma, where's Trunks? Have him flare his energy in a bit so I can use his energy to locate and send Vegeta back."

"Is Vegeta coming back? That's great!" Bulma felt a small surge of excitement. She had long wanted Vegeta to come back and be with her.

"Yeah, he said you're about to give birth and was worried about you, so he wanted to go back and be with you," Son Goku replied with a smile.

"Mhm." Bulma's face turned slightly red, her eyes full of tenderness. She gently stroked her belly, a happy smile curving her lips.

"Speaking of which... I seem to remember my mom, Gine, is also about to give birth. I wonder how she's doing now," Son Goku rested his chin on his hand, pondering in a low voice.

"Eh? Aunt Gine is going to have a baby? That's wonderful! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?" Bulma was stunned and asked quickly.

"I don't know. Don't you have to wait until it's born to find out? Can you actually know in advance?" Son Goku looked at Bulma strangely, his eyes full of innocent confusion.

"Idiot! Talking to you is such a chore, I don't want to talk to you anymore!" Bulma snorted and turned back into the house to find Trunks, not wanting to waste more words with this "single-celled organism" Son Goku.

"While Mom hasn't given birth yet, I'll quickly go to Beerus's Planet to pick up Vegeta, then go back to training so I can return early to be with Mom," Son Goku muttered. He then immediately closed his eyes, concentrating his mind to sense the energy of Beerus's Planet, and vanished on the spot using Instant Transmission.

In just the blink of an eye, Son Goku arrived at Beerus's Planet via Instant Transmission, landing steadily beside Vegeta. Without wasting time, he grabbed Vegeta's arm and used Instant Transmission again, sending Vegeta back to Earth, then returned to Beerus's Planet without stopping.

Beerus had originally returned to his tree stump to sleep, but was drawn by the aroma of the food Chi-Chi had prepared. He specifically woke up and moved close to Son Goku, waiting to eat together.

"I must say, Mrs. Chi-Chi's cooking is truly delicious," Whis remarked with deep emotion while taking a large bite of roasted meat.

"I think so too, Chi-Chi's cooking is the best in the world!" Son Goku nodded with a smile, a large chicken leg in his hand, eating with great relish.

"Mr. Goku is truly lucky to have such a wife who can cook so well; it's quite enviable," Whis laughed, his tone full of envy.

"Right? I'll bring delicious food over for you often in the future!" Son Goku scratched his head, smiling brilliantly.

After finishing the meal, Son Goku patted his round belly and moved his body, his bones letting out "crackling" sounds. He looked at Beerus with a fighting spirit, his eyes full of expectation.

Beerus: "..."

Beerus instantly understood Son Goku's meaning, and his face darkened. This kid wanted to fight right after eating; his energy was just too excessive!

"Lord Beerus, let's spar! I feel my strength has improved again and want to have a good fight with you!" Son Goku proposed, his fists already beginning to clench slightly.

Beerus's face turned black, and he said irritably, "No! I want to sleep. I just finished eating and have no strength to fight you. Spar with Whis instead; he's stronger than me."

"Honestly! Sparring with Whis is useless; I can't hit him at all!" Son Goku had a bit of a headache.

"How can you train if you can hit him? It's in the process of not being able to hit him that you grasp faster speed and sharper reactions," Beerus snorted disdainfully. "So the road you have to walk is still very, very long. Keep it up, kid! Don't always think about reaching the sky in one step."

"But speaking of which, a while ago I went to the God of Destruction's realm in Universe 6 and sparred with Lord Champa. His strength was a bit weaker than I imagined," Son Goku said with a smile.

Beerus's mouth twitched violently. He knew better than anyone what the result was. That guy Champa must have been bullied by Son Goku.

"I must say, Lord Beerus is truly the strongest God of Destruction in the entire universe. Compared to you, Lord Champa's gap isn't just a little bit," Son Goku laughed, not hiding his admiration. "I only used the Super Saiyan 5 stacked with Super Saiyan God form, and I could basically beat him."

"What do you mean 'basically beat him'? Did you win or not? Don't play word games with me!" Beerus snorted. Although he knew the result, he still wanted to confirm it personally.

"Oh my, it should be that Mr. Goku went easy on purpose, specifically to save Lord Champa's face and didn't truly defeat him," Whis revealed the truth with a smile. Whis knew Son Goku's personality too well; he wouldn't truly push a God of Destruction to a dead end.

"Haha, Whis, you really know me! If I truly went all out, Lord Champa would definitely get angry, and then he'd come to complain to you, Lord Beerus." Son Goku nodded, not hiding his thoughts at all.

Beerus's cat face turned black again. You kid give Champa face, why don't you give me face? When you fought me last time, you didn't seem to have any intention of being lenient!

"Lord Beerus, I'm ready. We'll just spar for a little while; it won't take up too much of your sleep time." Son Goku moved his body, his joints "crackling," looking at Beerus with a smile, his eyes full of expectation, not intending to give up at all.

"What do you mean 'ready'? Didn't I make it clear? I'm going to sleep! Can't you understand human speech?" Beerus snorted, his tone full of impatience, turning to walk toward the tree stump.

"Well... yeah... you did say you were going to sleep, but sparring won't take much time." Son Goku scratched his head, looking aggrieved.

"Alright, I'm going to sleep. You play here by yourself; don't disturb me." Beerus gave a big stretch, yawned, and turned to leave without looking back.

Son Goku: "..."

Son Goku froze in place, looking at Beerus's back, speechless. He's really going to sleep? Does he really not want to spar with me that much?

Beerus left without looking back. Son Goku had to turn to Whis, his eyes full of a plea for help. Whis smiled and spread his hands, indicating he couldn't do anything either. Whis didn't want to force Beerus to do something he didn't want to do.

"By the way, Lord Beerus, wait a second! I have something important to tell you!" Son Goku suddenly thought of something and shouted urgently at Beerus's back.

Beerus stopped in his tracks and turned around impatiently, his tone full of irritability: "What is it now? Speak quickly! Don't delay my sleep!"

"Before you sleep, consider this: didn't we have an agreement with Lord Zeno? Did you forget?" Son Goku asked with a smile, his eyes flickering with excitement.

"What agreement? Which one are you talking about?" Beerus was slightly stunned, his eyes full of confusion.

"The All-Universe Martial Arts Tournament!" Son Goku chuckled.

"You'd better forget about that kind of thing," Beerus glanced at Son Goku, not wanting to mention it at all.

"But it seems very interesting! Being able to spar with the strong from all universes and decide who is the strongest in all universes—just thinking about it is exciting!" Son Goku said with a smile, his hands already starting to gesture as if he were already fighting the strong from other universes.

"You're already the strongest mortal in the entire universe; there's no need to compete anymore!" Beerus snorted irritably. You can already beat me; aren't you the strongest mortal in the universe?

"Besides Jiren and the others, there should be even stronger mortals, right?" Son Goku guessed.

"I wouldn't know about that," Beerus shook his head.

"It is indeed possible that unknown powerful mortals exist in other universes," Whis nodded in admission. "Perhaps the All-Universe Martial Arts Tournament Mr. Goku mentioned is a very meaningful thing."

"See? This way we can also have a good training session," Son Goku grinned.

"Oh my, oh my..." Whis was about to persuade Son Goku to give up when he suddenly noticed the crystal ball at the top of his staff flickering with a pale-blue light. He quickly said, "Someone is calling... it's a call from the Grand Minister!"
