The sun had already risen. The Capital showed the brightness of its people within the happy atmosphere that they all made. By most, that would be the way of life, but for some, the brightness of the day was what kept them from living normally. They were known as vampires. No vampire could have a happy life: any vampire that shows themself into humanity is hunted.
The Capital hides more than that hatred. In the most profound and uncouth places, people lived even worse than those considered poor. They were desolated, they literally had nothing, and could never have anything. Why? People around them always diminished them. People who were born in those places were never given an opportunity. They could never expect help. The Unders.
…
How would someone born in The Unders and to a vampire live? Inconsiderable, some may say—yet there is one.
The place is dark. Two people approached. They saw a boy. Alone, abandoned.
"He's asleep. Should we take him with us?"
"What!? Do you think you can take care of an abandoned child?"
"I know I can't! But I can't let him stay here. Alone."
Born from a fugitive who hid in The Unders and a vampire who was cast out from his own race after being accused of multiple crimes, Leonardo. Left alone in a dangerous place, since his parents were killed by humans not long after he was born. Named by those who felt compassion for him and took care of him as one of their own. Even in a place of poverty and mistreatment, there were people with the souls of angels.
Even living in The Unders, Leo lived the same life a child born there would have had. He had multiple periods of hunger, devastation, and trouble. He and his parents always tried to protect each other. For the last twelve years, they went through trouble together.
It only took one person. One person noticed Leo's factions. It wasn't obvious, so no one else noticed before, but now that person noticed. They immediately alerted a group of vampire hunters. Leo's parents didn't know Leo was a vampire, so it was sudden news when they realized that it was their son who was being hunted. They didn't take too much time thinking, their relationship with Leo was the one of a real family. They couldn't let their son die, so they escaped as fast as they could into the closest forest.
The family walked for hours. The forest felt heavy, but it wasn't dangerous. The family felt it was strange. There should have been monsters attacking them in the forest.
The forest was the territory of monsters, but monsters were instinctively scared of vampires. They could sense the presence of Leo and his nature. Accordingly, vampires could sense Leo as well. They got to the path of the family and started following them. They let the family move for a while.
The vampires waited for a specific moment to appear before the family. It was then that the family got close to a cave the vampires knew well.
"Oh, who do we have here?"
Leo and his parents stopped and moved back.
"Ho?"
"You are scared?"
"You don't need to be scared. I am a vampire, as that child is."
"Now, hand him over."
The family was scared. After escaping the Capital they had to run and walk for a long time; they were tired.
"Stay back! Don't come near us!"
Leo's mother said as one of the vampires walked towards them.
"Oh, come on."
"It didn't have to be this way, you know?"
The vampire accelerated. With its fangs, it chopped Leo's mother's head.
"Rita!"
Leo's father, Bercan, shouted the name of his beloved wife. That became his last word in the next instant, when he suffered the same fate as her.
Leo couldn't react. He fell back with a horrified expression.
"Ah! Wha-!" Leo couldn't formulate words.
-"Now it's only you."
-"But, what even are you?"
Another vampire approached.
"Oh, I know what he is… He is a Demi-Vampire."
The first vampire looked at the other with surprise.
"A what!"
"No, someone like that shouldn't exist! He has to die!"
The vampire started to move with the intention of killing Leo.
"Wait. I have a better idea."
Stopping his movement, the first vampire looked at the other one with confusion.
"An idea?"
-"Yes. Bring him with you."
The vampires moved towards the cave they had close by. They dragged Leo while he remained terrified and couldn't act against the vampires.
"Huh? Oh, I see what your idea is."
-"Yes. Throw him in there; he won't survive in there for much."
"Alright"
The vampire throwed Leo into the cave, but it wasn't a simple cave. It was a dungeon cave. The vampires knew that Leo would end on a low level in the dungeon because the portal that could be seen inside the cave was emanating high amounts of mana. The vampires wanted to give Leo a harsh death.
Leo fell and before even entering the dungeon, his whole body got injured. The moment he entered the dungeon. His momentum made him fall into a canyon within the dungeon.
He didn't confront any monster within the dungeon, but he was already in a terrible state. He was dying. He couldn't think of anything. Mentally and physically tired, he could do nothing. He couldn't try to save himself and didn't even want to. After such chaotic and tragic events, he was ready to die.
