Chapter 1 - But, then, came that day...

Quick disclaimer: All Umamusume-related topics belong to Cygames. This is a work of fiction. Wake up. Check. Brush your teeth. Check. Get dressed. Check, check, check.

The horse girl fidgets with her star hairpin, trying to find the perfect angle. She brushes through her hair with her hands, too lazy to use any hair products this morning. Her long hair, black-base which fades to yellow tips, is pushed behind her shoulders. She continues brandishing her outfit, making sure her yellow school-like uniform is neat and tidy underneath her dark coat, cuffed with ruffles. Her black ears twitch occasionally, as her tail sweeps back and forth behind her.

Today was the day...

That day.

The Arima Kinen.

The race where I, Ikigai Star, will claim my G1 victory!

My whole body is just itching to run already... Running in place, bringing my knees up high, back down, and over again before the mirror, I'm filled with excitement, yet a little nervousness. Hah, but that never stopped me!

Performing more shenanigans in front of the mirror, stretching, jogging around my room...

The Arima Kinen sure was scary... A really long race, difficult track material, and the other Umamusume look scary when they race, too...

Suddenly, some advice from Trainer flashes back into my mind.

Three deep breaths.

In and out. In, and out. In... and out...

...relaxing.

My nerves aren't driving me crazy anymore, but I'm still just a little bit nervous.

But I couldn't dwell on that, no!

I must find Trainer, and we can go to the racecourse...

The grand stage of my running, of course!

If I think about it like that, then I'll feel better!

Some time, later...

"Hey, hey! Trainer!" Ikigai Star calls out, speeding up her pace towards her Trainer.

"Yo, Star!" Trainer yells back to her, his arms carrying a bag of treats. "I got you something, ha!"

Star's facial expression lights up, before she leaps up, wrapping her arms over his shoulders, hugging him tightly.

"...thank you, Trainer. I... I promise I'll do good today!"

Star mumbles into his shoulder, squeezing tightly.

Trainer lets out a soft laugh, ruffling her hair.

"I know. I know you will."

The two find a place to settle down, a nearby park bench. The two converse, laughing and joking, as Star gladly eats the sweets Trainer bought for her.

...I hope I'll do good today.
