Chapter 5 - Guide

Felix glanced at the wall of texts beside Cooper.

Felix turned towards the wall of texts beside Oxley and read them.

[Summoned: Stoneback Oxling

Rank: Common 3rd Tier

Potential Rank: Common 4 Stars

Status: Contracted

Skill: Enhanced Strength

Materials for Evolution to Rare rank: Compressed Muscle Core, Load-Bearing Bone Resin, and Fortified Growth Feed

Remarks: A healthy and loved domestic pet. It desired nothing but the continuous prosperity of its master's home.]

Felix was stunned. He inevitably dropped his butt on the floor while in disbelief.

I can see the necessary materials for evolution to even beasts? And what does that mean with the contracted status? If they are not contracted, can I contract them?

So, I'm not limited to weapons anymore?

Felix asked the voice in his head, "Guide, can you answer my question?"

[Yes, your assumptions are correct. You can contract a beast. However, it is best that it must be a beast that is still young and their energy can still be replaced by your energy, which came from the Immortal World, called Qi.]

Felix frowned. "Are they that much different?"

[Not that much. The Qi and the energy in this world are in fact harmonized. However, you are not made out of Qi energy, you're just a medium. Utilizing Qi while harnessing the energy from the world to convert to Qi would take a lot of toll on your body. Hence, to prevent the heavy consequence, you must choose one energy to contain your body.]

"And that is Qi? And I simply just have to convert the energy of this world into Qi to ascend through the ranks?"

[Correct.]

Felix recalled his status. He asked, "Does that mean you will follow the hierarchy established in my world than the Immortal World? I'm sure they're different, right?"

[They are vastly different, but how you acquire their martial arts are not different in your current world. As your guide, to prevent you from convoluting your very existence, I have to make an adjustment and continue to base every analysis in the future from your memory.]

Memory… Felix pondered.

"So, does that mean the evolutionary materials depend on my memory too?"

[A quarter of it. You don't know the evolutionary materials, but the slight knowledge you have about the Beast Evolution Department of the Beast Tamer Association that existed in every city was enough to provide a foundation on how beasts evolved. The rest came from me, your guide.]

Felix was stunned. As far as he knew, the Beast Evolution Department was paired with advanced technology to help evolve beasts. Surgery, alchemy, and other experiments that made evolution successful was the biggest contribution to humanity.

His knowledge on that area was surface-level.

And yet the guide felt it was more than enough to have concluded the rest by herself.

She's definitely an omniscient being. I must fully make use of her.

Just as he was in deep thought, he was deeply startled when a wind blew his ear.

He jumped forward and turned around, only to be frustrated to see her mother laughing.

Sarah said, "What are you dazing around for? Cooper and Oxley are looking at you in frustration."

Felix was surprised. He turned around and Cooper's reaction was excessively frustrated, while Oxley merely glanced at him, conveying his dissatisfaction, too.

He chuckled and said, "I-I'm sorry. I was thinking about something."

Sarah said, "We should get you a scabbard. You're being careless because you kept overthinking."

Felix was stunned. He hurriedly embraced his sword and replied, "There's no need for a scabbard, Mother."

He recalled the effects of carrying the sword without putting it into the scabbard. There was no way he would let opportunities slip by.

Sarah frowned. "Even if you don't want to, you won't have a choice if the authorities will tell you."

"But… this is not even dangerous."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "It's a sword. What can you do? This is for the safety of others."

Felix sighed.

As he was about to continue defending his sword, the guide spoke.

[It's fine to put it in a scabbard if you go out in public. The chances of dreaming of the Sword Immortal's enlightenment when he was a mortal was higher when you are sleeping.]

Felix was surprised. Since the guide had spoken, he gladly accepted his mother's proposal.

"Alright. Just tell me when we'll be getting a scabbard."

Sarah was speechless. She replied, "You're usually stubborn, why did you suddenly agree?"

Felix shrugged. "Well, your reasoning made sense."

Sarah gazed at him with an expression, seemingly telling, "Nothing makes sense to you."

In the end, Sarah tossed the unnecessary thoughts at the back of her head and said, "Call Krisha and ask her about the process of getting a scabbard and have your sword registered to you, so it won't get confiscated in the future."

Felix nodded and took out his phone from his pocket. After searching for Krisha on his contacts, he called her.

As soon as Krisha answered, Felix asked, "Do you know about the process of getting a scabbard as well as registering my sword as a summon?"

Krisha was silent on the other side of the phone for a while, making Felix think she was taking her time to answer.

However, Krisha said, "You really went straight to the topic without greeting me, didn't you? Who am I? Your customer service?"

Felix was stunned. Her dissatisfaction was visible in her tone.

He said, "I'm sorry. I was just excited."

Krisha replied, "Hmm… I guess so. I don't know why you're excited, though. Anyway, you should talk to my father, he's here with me."

Felix was stunned.

"Felix? You're asking about getting a scabbard and registering your sword as your summon, right?"

Felix panicked and almost dropped the phone as he greeted, "G-Greetings, Mayor."
