Only child of Lord Gendry Ruthvan of Barbmane in Dorne. Only the second man of his house to don the white cloak. The first man to join the Kingsguard of his house is Ser Raylon Barb 356 A.C-372 A.C. Knighted in his 33rd year by King Haegon I "The Fire" Blackfyre of House Blackfyre upon taking his vows.

Served in the Dornish border patrols along the Prince's Pass, where he distinguished himself in three successive engagements against marcher raiders. Credited with holding the Stonewind Crossing for two days with fewer than one hundred men until reinforcements arrived. Slew Ser Albin Tarly in single combat during the clash at Red Sand Wash.

Participated in the suppression of the Sandstone Rebellion, where he led the breach through the eastern gate after engineers collapsed the outer defenses. Known for measured aggression and steadfast defense in arid terrain.
