Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The Noodle Audit and the Emerald Shadow

The neon-drenched depths of Level 1313 were a far cry from the serene, incense-heavy air of the Jedi Temple. Here, the atmosphere was a thick soup of recycled oxygen, vaporized grease from street-food stalls, and the underlying hum of a billion beings struggling to exist in the shadows of the High Republic's golden spires.

Revan Shan sat at a rickety metal table in a corner stall known for its "Singularity Noodles"—a dish so spicy it reportedly had its own gravitational pull. He was dressed in his black Phrik-filament robes, his Sonic Screwdriver tucked into a hidden pocket. He wasn't auditing a star-chart or a droid's logic-gate; he was auditing the perfect ratio of chili-oil to broth.

"You know, Cortana," Revan whispered, his voice reflecting the 11th Doctor's manic appreciation for the mundane, "according to my 3rd Doctorate in Sentient Sociology, you can learn more about a civilization from its street food than its Senate. The Senate is all posture and high-collars. These noodles? They're honest. They're aggressive. They're a biological imperative in a bowl."

"Your 'biological imperative' is currently increasing your internal body temperature by 4.2 degrees, Revan," Cortana replied through his gauntlet. "Also, Maz Kanata is pinging your secure frequency. She says the 'noodle run' is officially over. We have a localized anomaly in Level 1111."

Revan tapped his gauntlet, and Maz's orange, wrinkled face flickered into a tiny holographic projection next to his bowl.

"Maverick," Maz rasped. "I hope the spice hasn't rotted your brain. My scouts just flagged a Pyke Syndicate transport heading into the old industrial shafts of 1111. It's a high-density cargo—living breathing cargo. 350 life-signs, all silenced by neural-blockers."

Revan's sassy grin vanished, replaced by the 12th Doctor's cold, weary gravity. "Slavers. In the heart of the capital. How very... unkind."

An Unexpected Encounter in the Dark

The transition from 1313 to 1111 was a descent into a mechanical graveyard. The air grew colder, smelling of stale ozone and wet iron. Revan moved through the shadows with the grace of a ghost, his Force Precognition whispering of a presence nearby. It wasn't the jagged, hungry intent of a Pyke. It was a pool of calm, ancient light.

He rounded a corner and stopped. Standing before a massive, rusted blast door was a diminutive figure with long, pointed ears and a shock of curly hair. Master Yaddle.

"Knight Shan," she said, her voice a soft, melodic chime. Unlike Yoda, her syntax was standard, but her presence was no less overwhelming. "Auditing the plumbing, are you? Or perhaps, following the same thread of suffering that brought me here?"

"Master Yaddle," Revan bowed, his 11th Doctor charm resurfacing. "I was just finishing some noodles. But Maz told me the Pykes were throwing a party in Level 1111, and I'm a sucker for a bad invitation. According to my 10th Doctorate in Galactic History, these shafts were designed to be inescapable. Perfect for a slaver ring."

Yaddle tilted her head. "A Maverick's eye, you have. Together, handle this we shall. Kindness, after all, requires a witness."

The Audit of the Pike Cell

The assault was a symphony of efficiency. Revan utilized his Sonic Screwdriver to bypass the door's electromagnetic seal with a sharp, cyan trill.

Whirrr-vwoop.

As the door hissed open, Revan and Yaddle didn't charge; they glided. Revan ignited his Balanced Purple blade, while Yaddle's green saber hummed to life.

The Pykes were numerous, but they were no match for the combined might of a Grandmaster and an Auditor. Revan utilized Form VI Niman, his movements a seamless blend of lightsaber parries and Force-attacks. He didn't strike to kill; he utilized Force Stasis to freeze groups of enforcers mid-stride and Force Repulse to clear the catwalks.

> The Kinetic Disperal Variable (\Xi_k):

> By calculating the exact frequency of the Pyke's reinforced chest-plates, Revan ensured his kinetic waves bypassed the armor to knock the wind out of them without shattering their ribs. It was a 'kind' neutralization.

>

Beside him, Yaddle was a blur of emerald light, utilizing the environment to disarm and disable. In ten minutes, the entire Pike cell—over fifty enforcers—was unconscious or webbed in Force-restraints.

The Rescue and the Loth-Cat

In the center of the warehouse were the cages. 350 beings—Twi'leks, Pantorans, and humans—stared out with wide, fearful eyes. Revan utilized the Sonic Screwdriver to shatter the electronic locks in a single, sweeping trill.

"Adventure is better when you're free!" Revan announced, his sassy grin returning. "Master Yaddle and I have already contacted the Temple Guardians. They'll be here in five minutes to take you to a proper medical center. Try to be nice to them; they're a bit stuffy, but their intentions are good."

As the survivors began to file out, Revan felt a tiny, flickering life-sign in a pile of discarded crates. He walked over and pulled back a tattered tarp.

Lying there was a Loth-Cat, its fur matted with grime, its front leg twisted at an unnatural angle. It let out a weak, pathetic hiss.

"Oh, you poor thing," Revan whispered, his 12th Doctor's weary kindness taking over. He knelt and placed his Beskar-alloy gauntlet near the creature. He closed his eyes, utilizing Force Heal.

> The Cellular Regeneration Rate (\Lambda_r):

> The Force flowed from Revan into the cat, the bone knitting back together and the bruising fading. It wasn't science; it was a feeling. A reminder that the Force was more than just a tool for combat.

>

The Loth-Cat stood up, shook itself, and immediately began rubbing against Revan's leg, purring like a miniature podracer.

"I think I'll call you Calculus," Revan decided. "Because you were a variable I wasn't expecting, and you're remarkably fuzzy."

Yaddle watched the exchange with a knowing smile. "A Maverick's heart, you have, Knight Shan. To the small things, as much as the great, you are kind."

The Temple Routine: Sabbatical Continues

Back at the Temple, the middle of 121 BBY resumed its rhythmic, comfortable pace. Revan returned to his sabbatical, but now he had a permanent companion. Calculus the Loth-Cat could usually be found curled up on Revan's stomach while he napped in his high-tensile synth-silk hammock.

* Training with the Ancestor: Every morning, Revan retreated to the private vault. He sparred with the Personal Holocron of Revan, but the focus had shifted.

"Stop calculating the friction of the floor, descendant!" the hologram barked. "The Force is not a lab experiment! Feel the air! Become the storm!"

Revan listened. He ignited his blades—the Natural Red and the Balanced Purple—and for the first time, he didn't count the beats. He simply danced.

* Story Time and Shadow Tag: In the afternoons, Revan was a magnet for the Initiates. He sat in the gardens, Calculus perched on his shoulder, and told them of the Whills of Jedha.

"And then," he'd say, "I used the Sonic Screwdriver to tell the door it was actually a window, and it was so confused it just fell over!"

The ensuing games of Shadow Tag were a Temple legend. Thirty-five younglings would attempt to corner the Maverick, while Revan utilized Force Meld and Force Jump to vanish into the rafters, laughing all the way.

* Archival Naps: The evenings were reserved for the Sovereign's Command Chair in the Restricted Archives. Revan would settle into the memory-gel, a latte in one hand and a data-crystal on Ancient Art & Archaeology in the other.

"Miner," he'd yawn, "check the Prodigal Knight's satellite feed. Is Hego Damask still buying moons?"

"Indeed, Master Shan," M1-NR (Miner) would reply. "He has just acquired a controlling interest in the Mygeeto crystal mines."

"Brilliant. Let him have the rocks. I've got the hammock."

Revan Shan wasn't in a rush. He was the most powerful variable in the galaxy, a Sovereign with a 3KM dreadnought and a legion of droids, but as the moons of Coruscant rose, he was just a man with a cat, a bag of candies, and a very good dream.

Adventure was the journey. And the journey for 121 BBY was looking exceptionally kind.
