Although Lina had not given him the answer he wanted, Alexander could tell she had been happy that evening.
That alone was enough to make the entire night worthwhile.
He kept thinking about the way she had smiled during dinner, the way she had looked at the fireworks, and especially the shy expression she had tried so hard to hide when he asked whether she liked him. There had been no calculation in her face then. No carefully prepared response. She had simply been caught off guard.
Alexander found himself smiling again.
She was adorable.
Far more adorable than she probably realised.
He had not planned to confess that night. His original intention had been to spend some time with her, make sure she was comfortable around him, and perhaps continue their little experiment with this strange attraction between them.
But then he had seen her sitting beneath the fireworks, smiling so brightly that something inside him had simply given way.
