At dinner that evening, each of them bought three steamed buns from the little shop they had spotted earlier.
The buns were freshly made, their skins thin and soft, with generous fillings tucked inside. The moment the paper bags were opened, the warm aroma filled the air, making all four of them realise just how hungry they were.
They had spent almost the entire day on their feet.
None of them had the energy to be picky about dinner anymore.
They sat together outside the shop and ate quickly, barely pausing between bites. David finished one bun almost immediately, then reached for another without hesitation. Susan laughed when she noticed him trying to hide the fact that he had already eaten two.
"What?" David asked defensively. "I'm hungry."
"You said you weren't."
"That was before I smelled the buns."
Roscoe chuckled and took another bite.
Lina could not help smiling.
