Chapter 1 - ON THE RUN

cats meow and tinker, ruffling through garbage and rip bags aside the roads hidden in alleys, the smoldering summer heat draws exhausted sighs from men and women alike, the sound of an ice cream trucks tonnes hun in the background, children gather.

"Hey, get her, she grabbed my purse!"

And old lady yelps, falling to the ground, crouching before the summer heat, officers jump to action, attempting to blind side the their

All to no avail though it seems, the slight thief evades the police like it second nature, vaulting over walls and climbing apartment walls, she climaxes her valiant escape by climbing onto a roof and sprinting toward the edge, her feet leave tg roof as she launches herself into the open air, nothing to catch her

Onlookers gasp expecting a gruesome scene to follow but as if nature willed it someone throws an old mattress onto a pile of garbage below, the girl lands directly upon the old mattres, before continuing her sprint, easily loosing the police and escaping with the old ladies purse.

She lets out a childish chuckles, while sprinting onwards, her red varsity jacket flails to reveal her white undershirt, various bruises and bandages cover her body, her old sweatpants competes the look, a rebel, someone free.

She finishes her run at a nearby coffee parlor, slowly walking to a seat and leaning back, grabbing towards some air buds in her jacket pocket before flicking out her old beat up phone, her deep blue eyes fixed on the phone, her unkempt short blonde hair rests neatly on the back of her neck, her eyes slowly turning to look at the coffee parlor entrance.

A small group of armed personnel enter the establishment, scanning the room the head officer raises his hand to the cashier, slowly saying

"Forward the message to your superior, apologies In advance for the damages, the local government will pay for all the repairs"

The customer weakly gossip and start to video the unusual sight

"Yes sir"

Slowly and nervously says the cashier

He lowers his hand before locking eyes with the rebel, his voice lowers

"If it isn't you, 'rough lily', youve been frequenting these parts. I must ask, don't you ever get tired of being on the run"

The officer says as he reaches for his handheld pistol neatly holstered

"I never did like that name, makes me seem like a brute, I wouldn't wanna be grouped with you 'officer scar face"

Lily says laughingly, poking fun at the officers large wound

"Seems you've forgotten what happened last time"

The officer says before firing a shot at Lily who seemingly already moved before she had even touched the trigger

She flips the table and dashes to behind the register, making sure to grab a pen and a glass display jar

"Shooting at a girl? Not every officer like!"

She shouts sarcastically

"Oh quit the babbling"

The head officer barks before ordering his men to attack and overwhelm her.

"Let's see, how will you handle this, six trained and armed personal versus you, with a pen and a measly jar"

He laughs

Lily ignores him, quickly revealing herself, vaulting the table and smashing the glass jar on the first officers head, blood gushes from his right eyes, he falls to the ground in raw pain, and shooting a glance at the seconds name tag

The second officer throws a punch at Lily, but she barely dodges, using the pen to gouge his leg, she softly retreats towards a shocked customer to grab the hot coffee on the table

"So sargeant brigade, and Lucas, what's next, a double team?" She laughs

In a fit of anger the downed and half blinded officer rushes to tackle Lily as another new officer goes to grapple her, a glimpse of a star grows in lilies eyes, she easily evades the tackling officer and throws the hot coffee on the one attempting to grapple her

He groans

"You bitch"

While the coffee sizzles

"Not unexpected"

The head officer says before firing towards Lily now that she wasnt near any civilians, Lily barely dodges as her left shoulder is gashed by the bullet

"Now corner her"

The head officer says, almost declaring checkmate

"Youre run is over"

The head officer chuckles

Lily glances over at the officers who's side she had gouged and her eyes go starry again, easily dodging his slow kick, using his miss to tackling him to the ground and cuff him using his own cuffs, but not before seizing his firearm, the last two officers realizing the severity attempt to open fire but Lily quickly grabs a shaken onlookers and puts the the gun to the civilians head before laughing.

"Just fucking try it"

A faint smile grabs her cheeks

"Are you really going to risk the life of an innocent bystander?" The head officer questions.

Lily continues to press the barrel of the gun against the bystander's face as they start tearing up out of fear.

"You know what, I think I just might. Plus, I know damn well you guys don't give a shit about civilian lives. Your main goal is to kill me, right?" Lily says, still smiling.

"Right on the head. Truth is, 'we' don't need rogues like you all over the place causing trouble for the average person. Truth is, a civilian life to save many isn't that bad a deal," he states, coldly and unfazed, before commanding the remaining soldiers to open fire.

"Fuck!" Lily shouts, throwing the bystander away before they can be hit, nearly dodging the bullets, save for her thigh.

Blood trickles down her leg. She grits her teeth as she removes the bullet. Her wound slowly mends.

"Impressive. Even old dogs can learn new tricks, it seems," he snickers after commanding his men to continue engaging her.

"Who are you calling an old dog, you sly bastard?" Her eyes starglaze once more as she rushes towards the two. The bullets fly past her, as if she had found the optimal path to be unscathed.

The first falls to a quick flurry of blows to the chin. She leg sweeps the second before blowing his head off with her handheld pistol.

"Ugh, now I'm all bloody," Lily groans.

The other officer attempts to reload his gun but is shot in the head before he can fully reload. Directing her gaze towards the last officer, but as she turns, she finds herself in a standoff.

"Well, time to see who's faster." Her eyes spark. Both fire at the same time, but Lily barely evades the bullet, leaving a hole in her ear.

"That was the last. Now all that's left is you," Lily says, finally being able to direct her attention to the head officer.

"Quite impressive, truly. Sadly, this is truly checkmate."

"Big talk. Who gets to say whether my run is done or not?" Lily says proudly.

"The HFCA," the head officer mumbles coldly.

"I've been on the run for years. Not a chance in hell you lot are catching me now of all times. Besides, you people are incompetent," Lily mocks.

"The reason we seem so 'incompetent' is because the HFCA deals with greater threats than you every day. It would be ludicrous to send a full battalion for a little play gangster with a little foresight," the head officer explains, still pointing the gun at her.

"I'm not no fucking play gangster," Lily snarls.

"Laughable. A filthy rich royal brat wanting to experience the 'road runner' lifestyle. Seen it a thousand times. You ain't nothing special, kid," the head officer jokes.

"Besides that, the time you spent talking could've been better allocated to fighting. If it were, you wouldn't end up in situations like this," the head officer says before clicking a button on his earpiece. A sharp streaking sound pierces the air.

"Argh, my ears!" Lily screams in pain as the devices are focused onto her. She fires wild shots in a panic, killing nearby civilians.

Before she can move, her eardrums rupture and her consciousness fades. The head officer deactivates the device before starting a report.

"Report: Lily Vandembrine captured, reporting to local headquarters."
