I opened my eyes
slowly̶
still wrapped in the half-sleep
of a night spent
beside you.
And there you were.
Already awake.
Already watching me.
Like youʼd been memorizing
the curve of my face
in the quiet
we didnʼt dare break.
We both froze
for a second too long.
Two startled hearts
caught in something
they never named.
"hey,"
you whispered,
soft as breath
on a winter morning.
You smiled̶
so faint, so honest
it broke me.
I smiled back.
because what else could i do?
And
we stayed there̶
so close,
so wrong,
so fucking confusing.
