Chapter 1 - Enter Kaizen Ryuuzaki

A large airship flew over a massive lake towards Beacon Academy which sat in the distance on the other side of the lake. Within the airship were various upcoming potential students of Beacon Academy, each of them carrying their own stories and history. One of them though had higher aspirations, ambitions beyond just fame and glory. His black hair and eyes were accompanied by what he wore. He wore a maroon sleeveless shirt with a red and maroon sleeveless jacket with golden accents. He wore grey pants with a bronze belt buckle and slim brown boots that went up his shins. This young man was Kaizen Ryuuzaki and he was looking out the window of the large airship as it travels from Vale City to Beacon Academy with a smile on his face. He had trained his whole life to become a Huntsman, not for money or fame but because he wanted to be something. Be someone others could turn to in times of need. He wanted to be a hero. However, his dream of becoming a symbol conflicted with his appreciation for fighting. Sure, he knows seeking a fight is bad, but he just can't help it. It's so much fun. It always gets him fired up.

Throughout his life, he's always taken a challenge head on whether it be the Grimm or bad people. He'll never back down no matter what is thrown at him. Sometimes it gets him into trouble. While he lived in Mistral, he always wanted to go to Beacon Academy because from what he's heard, the best Huntsman are produced there, and he wants to not only get the best training he can but to also face off against the best. With the best opposition can the best growth happen. At least that's what he thinks. While he thinks of all the cool things he'll experience, a hologram appears beside him where a news report was once playing.

"Hello, and welcome to Beacon." The woman greets.

Kaizen and other potential students either move towards or turn to the hologram to listen to what this woman has to say.

"My name is Glynda Goodwitch." Glynda introduces. "You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsman and Huntresses it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and training to protect our world."

With that short speech, the hologram disappears and people inside the airship begin to look out the windows as they approach Beacon Academy. Hearing that speech Kaizen got fired up and he was ready for whatever Beacon could throw at him. As he waits for the airship to arrive, he thinks back to his days in Mistral and what he was doing there before now. He used to take part in Tournaments back home; he also made a few friends that way. He hopes he can see one of them when he becomes a Huntsman. The one he's talking about was a good fighter and she was no slouch. She meant business and they were also friends. Her name was Pyrrha Nikos and Kaizen wonders how she'll do in Haven Academy. When the airship finally arrives at Beacon and lands, all the potential students all disembark from the ship and walk towards Beacon Academy. The second he steps off the ship he takes in the appearance of Beacon and even he has to admit. It looks amazing. Beacon's overall aesthetic was pleasing to the eye, not too complicated to look at which was nice.

Kaizen takes a deep breath before exhaling with a satisfied look in his eyes. He then continues his journey into Beacon Academy by making his way towards the Amphitheater with the other potential students. When he arrives, he can see all the people that have gathered together to attend Beacon Academy. There are a lot of people and each of them has their own weapons and outfits. It was a colorful crowd. He was about to look for a spot in the theater before he heard a voice.

"Kaizen!" A voice called out to him.

Hearing this, he turned his head and saw a familiar face approaching him.

"Huh, well I'll be damned." Kaizen said. "Weren't you going to Haven?"

It was Pyrrha, one of the only friends he really has.

"I had changed my mind, wanted a change of scenery in a way." Pyrrha answers.

Kaizen knew the real reason. Being in Mistral she was always referred to as the Invincible Girl and everyone had high expectations of her. That and it was hard to make friends when everyone only saw her for the status she had. Kaizen never really had that problem despite how many Tournaments he's been in. But he can understand how she feels.

"Well, I'm glad we'll be in the same academy." Kaizen said. "Better to brave the unknown with friends by your side, right?"

"Right." Pyrrha said.

The readying of a microphone is heard which guided both of their attention towards the stage where Beacon's headmaster Ozpin and Glynda both stood. Ozpin stood up to the microphone while Professor Goodwitch stood off to the side.

"I'll… keep this brief." Ozpin starts. "You have travelled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose. Direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

Kaizen and Pyrrha briefly look at one another before Glynda steps up while Ozpin leaves.

"You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow, you initiation begins." Glynda informs. "Be ready. You are dismissed."

With that, Glynda takes her leave.

"That was… something." Kaizen said.

[Later]

While everyone else had gathered in the ballroom for the night, Kaizen was different. While he had his stuff where it needed to be, he went outside for some nighttime training. Nothing serious, just practicing. He was outside and alone as he threw punches and kicks in all kinds of directions, acting like he was being attacked from all sides. But his speed was… inhuman. Not insanely fast, but faster than others his age. It was something he noticed as he grew up, he was unnaturally different than others. He was stronger and faster than them. He never questioned it too much, but it was always on the back of his mind. He wasn't a Faunus, he knew he was human. He stopped throwing punches and kicks and entered a relaxed stance while he controlled his breathing.

"Normally people are getting ready for bed around this time." A calm and relaxed voice said.

Kaizen turned to the voice and saw Ozpin standing there.

"Oh, sorry headmaster, I just figured I get in some nighttime training before sleep." Kaizen apologized.

"Nothing wrong with that." Ozpin comments. "Though it's almost unheard of for people your age to be up at this time training."

"Is that bad?" Kaizen asked.

"Not at all. It just shows your dedicated to perfecting your body for what's to come." Ozpin said. "Though I must say you certainly are fast. Is that your Semblance perhaps?"

"No, I don't have my semblance yet." Kaizen reveals. "As for my speed, I've always been like that."

"Oh?"

"I don't really know why, but I've always be unnaturally strong and fast. Not too much, but enough to notice. After some training I only got stronger and faster at a rapid rate." Kaizen revealed. "I don't know why though."

Ozpin looked like he was in thought.

"Oh, where are my manners." Kaizen said, realizing he hadn't introduced himself. "Kaizen Ryuuzaki."

"it's good to meet you, Mr. Ryuuzaki." Ozpin said. "I suggest you get some rest, tomorrow will be a busy day for you and your peers."

"Yeah, that sounds like a plan." Kaizen said before taking his leave.

As he left, Ozpin watched him off. Though in Ozpin's mind, he felt a sense of familiarity. Like Kaizen was someone he knew. It intrigued him if he was to be honest.

"There you are, Ozpin." Glynda said as she approached. "It is getting rather late."

"That boy." Ozpin starts.

Glynda looked to where Kaizen was and saw him walking away.

"What about him?" Glynda asked.

"His essence felt familiar." Ozpin said. "Speaking to him felt like I was speaking to someone I knew."

This made Glynda curious but before she could ask more, Ozpin spoke again.

"It's probably nothing." Ozpin said. "Come, we need to prepare everything for tomorrow."

Ozpin then takes his leave with Glynda soon following him.
