Chapter 1 - The Man Who Lived Alone

The morning sun slipped through the curtains.

Daniel woke up slowly, sat up on his bed, and stretched. His apartment was silent, just the way he liked it.

He exercised for a few minutes, then opened the window. Cool air brushed against his face.

Most people liked to go for morning walks.

Daniel didn't.

Not because he couldn't—but because he preferred being alone.

He had no friends in the neighborhood.

Not because nobody liked him but

Because he chose it that way.

After a simple breakfast, he sat on the couch, remote in hand, the television playing softly in the background.

Then something caught his attention.

Movement outside.

A moving truck stopped in front of the house across the street. Two men were unloading boxes, laughing loudly, talking to people around them.

New neighbors.

Daniel watched quietly from behind the curtain.

One of the men suddenly looked up, almost as if he felt someone watching. Daniel stepped back slightly and let the curtain fall.

He wasn't interested in meeting anyone.

But over the next few days, he began noticing things.

Different girls visiting the house.

Late nights.

Loud music.

Uncomfortable silence afterward.

Something felt wrong.

Daniel told himself it wasn't his business.

Until the evening he saw her.

She stepped out of a car, looking around nervously. She wasn't laughing like the others. She looked… unsure, like someone who trusted the wrong people.

Their eyes met for a brief second across the street.

She quickly looked away and followed the others inside.

Daniel stood still at the window for a long time.

For years, he had stayed out of other people's lives.

But that night, for the first time, he felt something he hadn't felt in a long time—

Concern.

And he knew, somehow, that trouble had just arrived in his quiet neighborhood.
