Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Kyel Nightshade

The room was quiet—too quiet.

Kyel Nightshade stood by the tall window, hands clasped behind his back, watching the human city breathe below him. Lights flickered. Cars moved. Life went on, unaware.

A shadow shifted behind him.

"You're late," Kyel said calmly.

Billy; the spy, stepped fully into the light, bowing his head slightly—not in respect, but in caution.

"I had to be sure I wasn't followed."

Kyel didn't turn. "Speak."

Billy hesitated for half a second. Then, "Princess Kira is on Earth."

That got his attention.

Kyel turned slowly, dark eyes sharp.

"Where."

"Pearlcare High," Billy replied. "She's enrolled as a student. Living like a human."

A slow, humorless smile touched Kyel's lips. "Of course she is."

Billy continued, carefully. "There's more. Damon is coming to Earth as well."

The air shifted.

Kyel's expression hardened. "Damon," he repeated, tasting the name like poison. "So she called for help after all."he scoffed. Typical.

"She didn't summon him," Billy said quickly. "But he's coming. His movements suggest he intends to stay close to her."

Kyel let out a quiet breath through his nose.

"Always playing protector."

Billy swallowed, then added, "There's… another complication."

Kyel's gaze snapped back to him.

"You're testing my patience."

"Naomi," Billy said. "She's receiving help. Power that doesn't belong to her."

Kyel's eyes darkened instantly.

"Naomi?" His voice dropped, dangerous. "That girl should have stayed irrelevant."

"We don't know who's helping her," Billy admitted. "The signature is masked. Ancient. Careful."

Kyel laughed softly—but there was no amusement in it. "Someone is bold enough to empower her?"

His jaw tightened. "Find out who it is."

Billy nodded. "Immediately."

Kyel turned back to the window, already deciding. "If Kira is at Pearlcare High… then that's where the board is set."

Billy looked up. "You're going yourself?"

"Yes," Kyel said without hesitation. "I won't watch this unfold from the shadows."

He glanced over his shoulder, eyes glowing faintly.

"Enroll me. Teacher. Student. I don't care."

Billy stiffened. "You're entering the game directly."

Kyel smiled—slow, sharp, certain.

Morning at Pearlcare High began like any other.

Lockers slammed shut, laughter echoed through the halls, and clusters of students gathered in their usual corners, trading gossip before the bell rang. Prom rumors floated lazily through conversations, mixed with speculation about a new teacher starting that day.

Yet Lisa felt unsettled.

It wasn't fear—nothing so simple. It was awareness. The kind that crept in quietly, tightening around her senses.

Kira felt it too.

She paused longer than necessary by her locker, fingers resting against the metal as if grounding herself. The presence was faint, restrained—but unmistakable.

Someone powerful was here.

The bell rang.

First period began smoothly—until the classroom door opened again.

The principal stepped inside, his posture stiff, his smile forced.

"Good morning, class," he said. "You'll be meeting your new Economic teacher today. He'll be handling this subject from now on."

A ripple of murmurs passed through the room.

Then the door opened wider.

Kyel Nightshade walked in.

He moved with unhurried confidence, each step deliberate. The air shifted immediately. Conversations died. Spines straightened. Even the most restless students fell silent without being told why.

Kyel's presence was absolute.

He wore black—tailored, immaculate. His gaze swept across the room slowly, calculating, taking note of everything.

When his eyes brushed over Lisa, she felt pressure—light, measured.

When they landed on Kira, something colder followed.

Recognition.

Kyel turned to the board and placed his bag down neatly.

"I'm Kyel Nightshade," he said evenly.

"I expect silence when I speak and thought when I teach."

His voice was calm. It didn't need to be loud.

No one challenged it.

The lesson that followed felt less like teaching and more like examination. Kyel asked questions that demanded reasoning, not memorization. He dismantled shallow answers effortlessly, never raising his voice, never repeating himself.

Lisa watched him carefully.

Kira felt watched.

When the bell rang, the room exhaled.

"You're dismissed," Kyel said.

Chairs scraped. Bags were slung over shoulders. Students filed out quickly, murmuring among themselves.

Kira gathered her things and headed for the door.

"Princess Kira."

Her steps halted.

The room was nearly empty now.

Lisa, already halfway out, hesitated—then quietly slipped back behind the doorway, pressing herself against the wall.

Kira turned slowly.

Kyel hadn't moved from his desk.

"So," Kira said coolly, "you finally decided to show yourself."

Kyel's lips curved faintly. "You sensed me."

"I always do," she replied. "What are you doing here?"

He studied her calmly. "I could ask you the same."

Kira scoffed. "You already know why I'm here."

"Do I?" Kyel asked. "Then tell me."

She held his gaze. "Why don't you start? Demon Lord turned teacher isn't exactly subtle."

Kyel stepped closer, his presence pressing in without effort. "And a goddess hiding in a school uniform is?"

Silence stretched between them.

Neither spoke.

Neither yielded.

From the hallway, Lisa held her breath.

Kyel stopped a few steps away from Kira.

"Careful," he said quietly. "Earth dulls instincts."

Kira's eyes narrowed. "Funny. I was about to say the same to you."

For a moment, something unreadable passed between them—history, power, unfinished truths.

Then Kyel stepped back.

"You should go," he said.

Kira didn't hesitate. She turned and left, passing Lisa without a glance.

Only when the hallway was empty did Kyel straighten.

Later, alone in the classroom, he adjusted his cuffs, surveying the space as if claiming it.

"Pearlcare High," he murmured. "An interesting place to hide."

The lights flicked off behind him.

Cassy was walking with Kelly and Mel, laughing loudly, when she nearly bumped into someone.

"Watch it—" she stopped mid-sentence.

Damon stepped back instinctively.

"Sorry."

He didn't look annoyed. Didn't look flustered either.

Kelly's eyes widened. "Oh—hi."

" Am--" She was stopped mid sentence by Cassey.

Cassy recovered quickly, flipping her hair. "You're new."

Damon nodded. "Damon."

"Cassy," she said confidently. "Pearlcare royalty."

Kelly scoffed...She already had her eyes on Damon and if Cassy tries anything funny-- she wouldn't hesitate.

He raised an eyebrow, amused.

"Sounds official."

She laughed despite herself.

He didn't flirt.

That bothered her more than if he had.
