Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Battle with the Drakes

"PRIDE... PULL BACK!"

I screamed as loud as I could.

I was still viewing the battlefield in a choreographic, written sense. Locked in that strange cognitive state.

So, I couldn't even tell if my voice had actually reached my Wyvern.

I hoped it did.

Because if it fell on deaf ears, Pride was going to pay for it dearly.

Through the Omniscient viewpoint, I could practically feel the fury radiating from him.

He must have been humiliated by these Drakes before. Otherwise, I couldn't imagine hatred running this deep.

Pride's dive toward the third Drake had been precise. Confident.

Exactly the kind of strike an apex predator makes when it believes it holds the advantage.

The flame breath had connected.

The Drake had recoiled.

However—

All of it had been a blatant feint.

Pure acting.

Cunning bastards.

"PRIDE, DON'T— Trust me on this, pal!"

Was my voice even reaching him?

To answer my question, Pride abruptly changed course and landed within the shadow of the treeline.

He slipped into the darkness—

And in the very next second, emerged from my own shadow behind me.

Was that Spatial Walk?

Shadow Walk?

[Loyalty: 60% → 58%]

What a jerk.

That's why they say—

Never help the arrogant.

In the meantime, all three Drakes opened their mouths simultaneously.

Their throats glowed lava-red as they unleashed what could only be described as a combined flame breath—three massive columns of fire punching into the sky before dispersing, raining burning debris across the battlefield like meteors.

"Oh, you naughty little things!" Kaira grinned.

Then she grabbed her opponent by the tail and swung the massive creature like a baseball bat, smashing aside every falling meteor in her area.

Aldric, meanwhile, continued using Piercing Gale to avoid each impact.

However, what had seemed manageable moments ago quickly turned complicated.

The Drakes had been hiding their speed as well.

When they first appeared, they had moved like sluggish beasts.

But now—

The Drake closed the distance to Aldric with terrifying speed and slammed its tail into him.

The impact sent him crashing into a tree.

Blood smeared his lips.

Across the battlefield, only one person remained completely frozen.

Yours truly.

"Well, fuck me! I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TURN THIS OMNISCIENT DRAFT ABILITY OFF!"

A meteor plummeted directly toward me.

At the same time, the Drake we were supposed to be handling charged straight in my direction, jaws spread wide.

Fortunately—

Pride had already intercepted.

He spat wave after wave of fire while charging straight toward it himself.

The flames clearly did no damage to the fire Drake. It tore through them without hesitation and immediately lunged to bite down on Pride.

However, Pride had anticipated it.

His massive tail whipped through the air and slammed into the Drake, sending it stumbling backward.

Taking advantage of the opening, the six-star Drake suddenly tore through the battlefield and bit down on Pride's wing before attempting to slam a meteor strike directly into him.

Pride jerked free—

Then immediately sank his jaws into the six-star Drake's neck.

[Countdown: 7:45]

No matter what happened elsewhere—

My situation remained unchanged.

Fortunately, before the meteor could completely tear through me, a vine wrapped around my waist and violently yanked me away.

A second later—

Thud.

I landed against Timber.

The Omniscient Draft faded immediately.

At that exact moment, I swore to myself—

Never again.

Never using that ability mid-battle again.

"Good job, buddy! You saved me! Huff... huff..."

[Stamina: 52%]

"Timber saves everybody!"

[Loyalty: 76% → 80%]

I had honestly thought Timber wouldn't be the MVP of this fight since his attacks couldn't even affect the Drakes.

But damn—

The guy was a genuine lifesaver.

Even now, I could see him manipulating his vines to assist Pride, Aldric, and even Kaira simultaneously.

"COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOOO!!"

[Napoleon has used Rallying Cry!]

[All physical attributes increased by 25%]

[Fear resistance increased by 50%]

The third time Napoleon had activated his ability.

"Keep at it, buddy! You're doing great!"

[Loyalty: 84% → 90%]

My rooster was pulling his weight too.

Honestly, it was probably only possible because the Drakes remained completely fixated on Pride instead of the rest of us supporting from the sides.

Either way—

I'd seen enough.

"Time for some payback."

I clenched and unclenched my hand, pushed myself upright with Timber's help, and brushed the dirt from my clothes.

My gaze swept across the battlefield before stopping on Aldric, who was struggling to contain the six-star Juvenile Drake.

"Aldric! Aim for the fourteenth scale—it's badly damaged, wounded beyond repair for some reason! I think that's the weakness you've been searching for!"

Aldric's eyes widened briefly.

Then he gave me a sharp nod, renewed confidence flashing across his face.

"Kaira! Stop playing around—and definitely stop enjoying yourself! Spin it around and throw it as far as you can before it uses another Meteor Strike!"

"Fufufu! My bad, Marfin! I probably should've done that sooner!"

Typical brute.

Anyway—

My attention shifted completely toward the Drake fighting Pride.

A Juvenile Seven-Star overwhelming a Juvenile Four-Star.

Such was the way of nature.

But I—

Was an anomaly.

Gravity had already begun gathering within my fist.

Compressing.

Building.

Condensing beneath the surface.

60 lbs...

70 lbs...

90 lbs...

120 lbs...

150 lbs...

[Stamina: 50%... 46%... 42%... 34%...]

"Pin it down, Pride!"

After several brutal exchanges, Pride finally managed to force the Drake onto the ground.

By then—

My compressed weight had already crossed 200 lbs.

I had learned during the Hellhound battle that striking with my fist would generate enough impact to launch a target away.

So instead—

I straightened my fingers, angling my hand vertically.

Nails forward.

Concentrating everything into a single point.

220 lbs...

240 lbs...

250 lbs...

[Stamina: 20%... 16%... 13%...]

The moment I entered range—

I drove my hand forward with 260 lbs of compressed gravity behind it.

— SPLASHHH!!

The rock-hard scales ruptured instantly.

My hand pierced straight through the Drake's face and buried itself deep—

Until the creature finally collapsed.

Lifeless.
